Reminds me of Reuben Hersh's and Phillip Davis' chapter on "the ideal mathematician" in their book The Mathematical Experience.

 

Google books link....scroll up a few pages to start the chapter::

 

I searched for The Steinberg-Bergstein paper :lol: scroll up a page or five.
