Is this a service pack to Strike Fighters or is it SF with out all the MOTHER @$$%@$@!!!! bugs it had? I mean geez SF left me really bitter for that company and no one programmer/designer is to blame for that one. So I ask this question because I could vary easily put this money towards a tank of gasoline for one of my 3 trucks/SUVs or I could waste it on another Thirdwire flopper. The ONLY thing cool about SF was the open ability to add and design planes because the game was unlocked and if thats what WOV is going to focus on then I will be passing on it. I need input man!!

Top 10 Questions

1. How many maps?? Don't say just one.

2. Do the radars work correctly? Hate those static "do nothing" radars.

3. Does it look better than SF?

4. Are the carriers functional? Well in patch 1.XX we will have lights and......

5. Jack Daniels has never let me down, what about WOV......will it?

6. YAWN!!

7. Are the planes basketballs on the ground?

8. Are patches going to take 2yrs to release?

9. Geez WTH did I do with that Strike Fighters game.

--Last but not forgotten--

10. CTDs!!!!!!! GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY FLUSH MY DONKEY NUTTS DOWN THE TOILET WHILE I AM READING MY CABELA'S CATALOG, THOSE CTDS PISSED ME OFF!!!

Well that's all for now.......need input please.

Yours truly, The TrrashMan

Well, I'm sorry that SF left you so bitter the 1st time - did you by any chance have the original Walmart release (in reality a press beta) courtesy of Strategy First?

If so SF P1 has moved on quite a bit from there

WoV is a Vietnam based sim using the SF P1 engine.

You could think of it as an SF P1 expansion (different terrain, missions, campaigns & a slightly different plane set) except that it runs as standalone.

1. Currently WoV has only 1 map - Vietnam.

By past experience though the community will add others.

2. What's your definition of correctly? I ask this afaik SF has never had what I would call "static" radars  . Of course in this era radars weren't the complicated geewhizzes of today & SF P1/WoV weren't made to be accurate system simulators a la Falcon 4 - if you want to take 15 minutes in the cockpit to reach the end of the runway this isn't for you.

You also have the option of easy, normal & hard radar.

3. Well as it uses the SF engine you can imagine that they are comparable.

However, the SF engine has improved since you will have seeen it & the Vietnam terrain is definitely better than the original desert SF one.

4.Well, you can land & take-off from them but certainly if you are expecting them to takeover from F/A-18 in carrier ops not in their current incarnation.

5.

6.

7. no

8. No. 1st one bringing WoV code up to the latest SF P1 engine code is out already.

TK will continue to improve things but you aren't going to get 1 a month.

9. can't help you there.

10. I've never really had CTD problems with SF P1 - I do have a strong suspicion that you might have had the original Walmart beta release.

WoV is fun & it is still open for community modding so expect to be able to add terrains, aircraft, etc. .

Hope that helped.

For the "static radars", as far as I can tell they're designed to and are operating just as they did in the 60s and early 70s. We are used to today's high tech radars that other sims feature that tell you exactly what you're looking at including distance, speed, altitude etc. All of the radar modes in my aircraft are showing blip returns...I just have to figure out what I'm looking at. ;)

You may remember Scroll_87FIS who was a great pilot during the Jane's USAF days. He's an actual USAF Lt Col and was a long time F-4E/G EWO (Desert Storm), and was on the original beta team for SFP1. He helped TK get the radars (and other things) right at least for the F-4s in the sim. He explained how they work to me a long time ago, but to be honest he went over my head because there's a lot more to understand than with today's high tech stuff. Let me get my abacus and slide rule... :dntknw::biggrin:

Hell...I thought "Static Radars" were those that scanned via the Rudder Pedals....

Sounds to me like Trashman has already made up his mind.

We are not gonna beat the Walmart Horse, this a stand alone game that cost less than a tank a fuel. Those that like it, enjoy the hell out of it, those that don't can use their money elsewhere. If you did not like the patched SFP1 you likely won't like WOV.

Excellent reply BUFF.

Cheers
