He needs to be keel-hauled beneath what's left of his ship.

He needs to submit to a trial and be punished (if guilty how it seems to be) according to sea laws. That's it

Of course! And then, according to the ancient traditions of the sea, we'll keel-haul the guilty $!#@#^ beneath what's left of his ship and feed his remains to the sharks.

From what I heard on ABC today (a report from the US ABC no less! lol) was that he was navigating this passage at night, not using maps, not using radar, sonar or any other electronic means. He was navigating visually... at night. When the sky is black. On the ocean. Which is also black at night. No night vision goggles. Nothing.

Blows me away that someone thinks they could feasibly do that with a cruise ship...

According to an interview given by portuguese survivors the officers - and I think the captain himself - were all having fun at one of the bars at the moment the ship struck the rocks... The person interviewed was a metal worker used to work in ship construction, and he recognized the impact immediately for what it was - and couldn't believe the bullcrap that was fed to the passengers HALF AN HOUR LATER that it was an electronic problem... The entire assemblage of officers (with exception for the security officer which was the only one which was trying to coordinate something resembling evacuation procedures) should be stuck in the empty fuel tanks and be sent to the bottom of the Med!!!
