Lou recommended this site several times, and so did I - it is a bit diffivult to see it all through, but so worth it!

I put together some rather unknow photos of French aviators, aircraft and locations.

No, that is a Morane Parasol - the early French monoplane.

We will get them in OFF II, which will hopefully make more people fly the early war time.

Come to think of it the Einie has it's wings lower but that's a similar wire configuration on the top.

These early craft had no ailerons - they warped the whole wing via wires.

At least the Fokker Eindecker did - not really sure about the Morane. Anyone here?

Here's a similar angle of the Eindecker - you can see the similarities.

Yes, I know. In OFF, when you fly the Eindecker, you can see the metal roll, over which the cables/wires

moved to warp the wings, when you moved the stick left or right-

The Morane is one of the few aircraft whose name carries on. All aircraft with that wing arrangement are called 'parasol' - the Morane was one of the first.

 

And WHAT is that strange boxy thing in the last photo? Or are there three of them?

The "strange boxy things" are three indeed, Jim.

They are French observer/recon cameras - I guess the larger they get, the more telephoto-lens-like they are.

Yep, those are cameras. The bigger, the better.

 

That Caudron must have been an interesting aircraft to fly. I hope to see them in OFF one day!
