Apparently F-4 Drivers weren't the only ones to fly that way.

There were even some Skyraiders that took-off (cat-shot, of course!) with their wings folded.

They did actually fly!

From a runway I can get how a pilot could overlook part of a checklist but how the hell does a cat crew manage to launch a bird and not notice its wings are up.

I thought that it wasn't that they were folded, but that they were not LOCKED. As soon as they attempted to generate some lift....whap...new vertical stabs!

Ha ha!!

 

An A-7 did that at Miramar one night when I was the CDO for the E-2 RAG. Closed the runway and diverted our CARQUAL flight!
