Rail yard attacks and use of loadouts

Recommended Posts

They certainly used to attack but would often fly off in a wide direction and split into 2's etc. Somtimes seems like they are not attacking when actually they are preparing too far away (CFS3). They would take a lot longer to attack sometimes (i.e fly a good long way out to line up blah - aso sometimes they would attack another ground target instead not the one you said to, aah the confusion of war). WOFF will change this and many many many things (think we mentioned the AI is a tad different in WOFF) ..

Pol;

Thanks for your input to this thread, it is appreciated.

No problem btw in WOFF we have given them much more intelligence around target attacks and hope we can show more soon. Actually I should say 'given them new intelligence' as it's not just improvements but new AI completely.

I have encountered this problem in OFF Only..

I have built Many missions for CFS3 and All the Expansions..(MAW/ PTO/ ETO/ DPC Korea/ RS/ BOB)

All except OFF when "A" if hit to send in wingmen.. They Attack..Warping is no factor

In OFF NEVER!!

And I have 25 missions finished in the Italy Package, and so far getiing the Wingmen to attack is a Real pain..

In my Italy Missions I had to build a special Target facility and place it over a target, then the wingmen in OFF attack, with this as the target..

But with out this Target facility, they will not..

The "Bug" in OFF..I am sure the Masters here realize this shortcoming and will at some point correct it..

There is one difference between the mission types in CFS3 and in OFF. OFF has all the same mission types as CFS3 except for one: search and destroy missions. I don't know if this is the cause of the problem or not. There also some minor differences in the Loadouts section. In CFS3, there is always a "clean" loadout that does not list any ordnance, but with OFF, the "clean" loadout contains what might be called the "default" ordnance for the particular aircraft. Since my squaddies seemed to attack the target in my test, I didn't pursue this further, but the answer might be contained in these small differences.

Hi there RJW,

Her PW had expained what I thought was the issue. Certainly the designation can make a difference in bombing and how the AI respond to being attacked. I think that I set up a mission, the Tondern Mission, using the Sop Camel with a bomb load, and it went fairly well?

Good luck.

Cheers,

Herr Propwasche and Britisheh;

I have read your replies quoted below. In particular Herr Propwasche's comment that "but with OFF, the "clean" loadout contains what might be called the "default" ordnance for the particular aircraft." is not clear to me. The mission "Briefing Room" has a "loadout" at the bottom of the screen that can be set to (4) 25lb Cooper Bombs, or (8) Le Prieur Rockets. The default is "None" if you do not change the "loadout" on this screen. Your answer "but the answer might be contained in these small differences." seems rather vague to me. If I select a loadout, it only applies to my aircraft, so my squad mates always seem to fly "Clean" therfore I don't see why they won't attack the railyard since it is not defined as a bombing mission. If you refer to my original post, I only tried the loadout of bombs because my squad failed to attack when I starten the mission clean. Can you please clarify your statement to me as I'm not getting your point of view. Thanks!

I'm referring to the mission types and loadouts that are contained in each plane's .xdp file, not the loadouts you can select in the briefing screen--although I'm fairly sure the loadouts you can select in the briefing screen are determined by the loadouts that are specified in the .xdp file.

To illustrate, I copied this from the .xdp file for the Camel:

<Loadouts>
 <Loadout Name="Clean" MissionType="Escort,CAP,Intercept,Sweep,Nothing,Bomber_Intercept,CAS"/>
 <Loadout Name="(4) 25lb Cooper Bombs" MissionType="Strike">
	 <Hardpoint ID="0" PylonType="off_cooper_rack" PayloadType="OFF_cooper_25lb_bomb" Quantity="15"/>
 </Loadout>
 <Loadout Name="(8) Le Prieur Rockets" MissionType="Strike">
	 <Hardpoint ID="1" PylonType="off_leprieur_rack_r" PayloadType="OFF_leprieur_rocket" Quantity="15"/>
	 <Hardpoint ID="2" PylonType="off_leprieur_rack_l" PayloadType="OFF_leprieur_rocket" Quantity="15"/>
 </Loadout>
</Loadouts>

Note that the mission type for a bomb loadout or a rockets loadout is "strike." In CFS3, there is also a mission type named "search and destroy" that is not available in OFF. I'm wondering if perhaps this small difference has any effect?

I'm not sure if this is the case. When I checked this box and started the mission, my squadmates also had bombs under their fuselage. However, the "bombs" are very hard to see, so it is easy to miss them unless you get the perfect angle.

Herr Prop-Wasche, I see your point now I think. It's a question of what OFF thinks a "Strike" mission is or what it might substitute if it doesn't know what to do with it, Right?

You may be correct, I'll have to look more closely.
