Spinners Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Douglas AD-7 Skyraider - 119 Squadron, Heyl Ha'Avir, 1958 Whilst the 1956 Suez war was viewed as a disaster for Britain and (to a lesser extent) France, Israel had conducted a brilliant military campaign and had emerged victorious and confident in the ability of it's armed forces. In the immediate aftermath of the conflict, Heyl Ha'Avir officials asked for the replacement of the remaining Mustang fighter-bombers and by early 1957 they had approached the Douglas Aircraft Company for a version of their Skyraider attack aircraft which was finally coming to the end of it's long production run. Douglas offered a minimum change version of the single-seat AD-7 version and in April 1957 the Israeli Government ordered 40 Skyraiders for the Heyl Ha'Avir which entered service later that same year and remained in front-line service until 1968. 2
