The DiD Campaign Revival - Rules & Reports

Recommended Posts

Hmmm, I just tried to add some details to the website, but after the page about flying time, location, etc., I'm presented with a page asking how my pilot died, despite listing him as being active.

This 'pilot died' page is a bug now fixed.  Anyway you can enter what you like and I will ignore it as your pilot is still 'Active'  This is the problem with going 'live' with what is a test system although it is getting there.

Re the RNAS ranks I will change the web survey to differentiate between flying for Britain in the the RFC and flying for Britain in the RNAS.  As an ex-RAF member I always forget about the WAFU's.

Ok done now with the lowest rank being 'Petty Officer' which is equivalent to a Sergeant.  Unfortunately that rank does not exist in WOFF itself where you have to enrol as an occifer.  Maybe this was true at the time.  So you can report as a Petty Officer if you like.

Jim, ulti and all - the RNAS flyers can only enlist in the lowest available rank available in WOFF.

We need to see and report, when we get promoted, and so we cannot add ranks which are not in the WOFF selection.

Pilot is dead page is removed as I couldn't get it to work properly.  RNAS ranks changed as per WOFF so you can't be a Petty Officer any more!  But we are getting there :beta:

Copied from SimHq:

Olham and I are still working out the details of scoring. Whatever we do it will be the same for everybody. It is simple at the moment but will become difficult when pilots fly in different difficulty areas or the difficulty for the same area changes with time.

For the moment, can I backtrack on what I asked before. ALL HOURS ENTERED ON THE WEB SHOULD BE TOTALS. (otherwise I have to add them up which is next to impossible to get right).

So, as an example, if you have done two sorties of 1.5 hrs and 1.4 hours at HOTSPOT then you should capture:

Hours: 2.9 Hotspot Hours 2.9 Medium hours 0 Quiet Hours 0 sorties 2

If you then move to a squadron in a Medium area and fly 1.3 hour sortie, then capture:

Hours: 4.2 Hotspot Hours 2.9 Medium hours 1.3 Quiet Hours 0 sorties 3

ps. If you get it wrong for some reason then capture it again. I mostly look at the latest post.

And I do not check that you are putting your hours under the correct sector difficulty level. I trust you to get that right.

Olham and I are doing well (except he is dead and I was 'forced down' on my second sortie).

Well gents, I've just got my first kill! Has yet to be confirmed of course, but it was a quick and brutal fight. I was flying along in formation just over the lines South of Armienteres, when the plane to the left of the leader sheds a wing and careens straight into the poor fellow flying on his left. As this happens, our leader pulls into a tight turn and his observer starts to get busy! I still hadn't even seen the enemy, and they had taken out two of our flight of five! I followed in the turn, and then I saw them - three or four white Fokker E.IIIs, and two Aviatiks. I turned to get behind on of the E.IIIs and started firing; he went into a steep spiralling dive into which I followed him, pulling out at about 800 feet. I then managed to get onto his tail and fire a few more shots, and which point his kite jerked upwards and he spun into the floor. I pulled up steeply to gain some altitude, turning just in time to see another Strutter go down in flames. At this point the one remaining Fokker I could see seemed to lose interest (thankfully!) and headed for home, which I took as a key opportunity to get out of there! I made it home fine after that, with no more enemy contact. I was the only one to land at the field, but I was informed by WOFF that both FC David Lawley and FC Alexander MacDonald Shook had landed at other fields. FL Tony Armstrong, FL Dan Moore, and their observers, are confirmed dead.

It's amazing how easily the enemy can sneak up on you... had I been alone I doubt my pilot would still be around to tell the tale, and the worst part is I thought I was keeping a good look out!

Hope everyone else is still hanging on, and best of luck to all!

Hi theultimat I got your last post on the web site and there is no kill recorded there .....  Put it in on your next form.  According to my data you have 4 hours in 3 sorties so far and are still alive.  Don't worry too much about the victories as at the moment you don't get any points for them.  I think this will change.  Rules are meant to be changed.

Yeah that seems correct; I was under the impression we only put in the kills that are confirmed - correct my if I'm wrong though and I'll just do it again.

Oh, I misread your post - I thought the kill was confirmed.  Anyway, just put in the confirmed ones later.  Remember apart from me and my Mk 1 eyeball, there is no automatic checking of your answers on the web.  I would notice if your hours or sorties went down instead of up but on the other hand I may not.  What is reported here is the last web capture unless I spot something wrong.  Eg. your total hours must be equal to your Hot medium and quiet hours added together.

I do keep all your web captures for comparison and if I see any anomalies I will pm the pilot concerned.

My pilot,  Algernon Didsworthy is injured until next Monday.  That active is a result of me trying to avoid the 'pilot is dead' trouble.

Well done, theultimat

Flew my first DiD sortie today and I'd best fly more cautiously or I will certainly die soon.

I was tasked with an enemy airfield bombing mission and designated as flight leader (B-Flight) and given 2 wingmen, 4 A-Flight planes to help, and we met up with 3 Nieup 11s from another RNAS squad. Not far from the front all heck broke loose as I spotted EIIIs above us at our 10 Oclock. A-Flight and our escorting Nieups were barely visible behind us, so I dropped my bombs and headed straight into the diving EIIIs. Not sure how many EIIs in this group, but it was at least 5. I put 2 trigger pulls into a Fokker and quickly swung around on his tail to finish him off while my observer/tail gunner banged away at another. Soon it was a big furball and every time I turned hard to change direction an EIII seemed to be in my sights. Counted 3 downed Fokkers from me and no clue what A-Flight and the Nieups racked up.

So we regroup after that furball and I'm not sure if my B-Flight mates dropped their bombs or not. Decided to cross the front and hit the airfield anyway. Just after crossing the front more EIIIs attack from 2 Oclock high, one of them scored a few hits on my plane fabric, no time to check where. I dove into a hard left turn and then an upward loop almost colliding with a green painted EIII. Swept in on his 6 and peppered his tail/elevator which caused him tospin out. It's another furball and I headed for the fringe, spotted an EIII on a Strutter and raced to help. ..Bagged another EIII the same way.

That was enough excitement, we headed home. Checking flight "Details" I saw none of the other strutters armed with bombs dropped their payload! Guess they can fly better with the extra weight than me. Details showed I had 5 kills, 2 Historical Aces, Max Ritter von Mulzer and Max Immelmann

Should I be posting this report elsewhere?

If so I will do so in the future.

We could do with a thread for that, or use the existing after action reports thread I guess.  I've got a diary for flight reports and diary entries for my pilots (present and future). Two bombing runs and a reconnaissance flight.  But flying BE2s we've not gone a flight without losing at least one machine.  We can't keep that up surely.

I'll publish the better bits in clumps I think.

My whole flight of 5 FE2b's was shot down - I was crashed but unhurt, 3 dead and 1 severely wounded.  I never saw what hit me!  It's a rough world out there in June '16

Guys, you can publish your "DiD Campaign" reports here - I changed the title of the thread.

MudWasp, you must bring the TAC on for "gound targets", select a target, and then use the command "Attack".

Only works of course, if you are the flight leader.

TO ALL PILOTS

Pls check your "Privat Messages" each time you come in (Envelope symbol at the top of this forum page).

Jim_Attrill has found different problems here and there, and will contact the pilots that way.

On my second sortie of the day and DiD, we were sent out to spot artillary. It was so cloudy and windy I didn't want to fly, but orders are orders, so off i went. 5 of us in B-Flight and 4 in A-Flight. Visibility was so poor I could barely stay in formation. Then all of a sudden bullets tear into the mate infront of me. It's an EIII ambush. How they knew we were here, I've no clue, but it was time to fight or die again. Another crazy furball ensued, the poor visibility made it very hard. Good thing those EIIIs only have 1 wing, as plane ID was almost impossible. We cleaned house with only one loss on our side and headed off to the front. Hope some one was able to take a pic, nothing but clouds visible below my strutter. After rtbing I discovered I was credited with 6 Fokkers and one of my mates with 2 Fokkers. Fabio, who disappeared in the ambush was unharmed, but his strutter was a totaled.

Thank God, today all flights were cancelled due to bad weather as I'm still a nervous wreck from my first day in RNAS-4.

Olham, how do I "select a target" in the procedure you mentioned above?

Olham, I've another question.

I'm based in a medium activity zone. If I'm sent to patrol a hotspot, do I estimate the time spent in the hotspot and record that as hotspot time?

Or is all time for me medium time due to the fact I'm based in a medium activity sector?

Your time depends on the sector that your home airfield is in.  Keeps things simple.  The only time this changes is with time - see the chart, or if you move to a squadron in a different sector.

Thanks for the quick answer, Jim.

I responded to the question you pm'd me on another forum. I've no clue who the french pilot is or why that info was sent.

Is it ok to find out how long this streak of bad weather lasts as long as I don't fly on the future date that the weather clears up on?

TO ALL PILOTS: Rank for German Marine-Flieger campaign added in post #1.

MudWasp, yes, sure - you can advance the time to find out, how many care-free days you may have

to enjoy with a short holiday trip. You only don't fly before the real life date catches up.

To assign targets, you have the TAC on "Ground Targets", and press the key to "assign target".

Pls check the "Workshop" ("Remap Keys" section )for the right keys - I have changed it all in my setup.

Thanks for answering, Olham

My Pilot, Andrew Anderson, can't fly until the 17th. I'll have time to fly other non-DiD pilots.

I'll study up on the ground targeting key assignment procedure. I have difficulties remapping to my CH Products.

Another question;   .    Why am I able to take screenshots when I'm in the sim flying, but not of my Pilot's log book?

Do I need a third party program like Fraps?
