+Geary 1,899 Posted June 4, 2015 We have a ton of great F-111's and there's a bit of info on the web that I've been able to find, but can't seem to narrow down which of the versions/models/units we have that flew in Vietnam. Do we have or has anyone put together a pack of Vietnam specific F-111's models/versions/skins? If not, can anyone tell me which models/versions/skins we have were flown in Vietnam? TIA, Geary

+Geary 1,899 Posted June 4, 2015 Stick, Thanks, I know we have a skin for that unit. Any idea about which units we have skins for that came after Combat Lancer?

+Geary 1,899 Posted June 4, 2015 MigBuster, Thanks for the info. Can't seem to find any skins for Vietnam F-111's after Combat Lancer. May have to make some myself.

+Geary 1,899 Posted June 5, 2015 LeL, Thanks for the response. Combat Lancer is covered her at CA but we seem to jump from Combat Lancer to post Vietnam in the F-111 skins here. Combat Lancer lasted about 3 months and was a bit of a failure. I've been looking for skins/units that cover the Linebacker and Linebacker II campaigns. Much more combat time than Combat Lancer. I've got your skins and upgrades and really appreciate your work on the Aardvarks. Maybe when I get the info and time I'll re-decal a few for the Linebacker I & II periods. Stick 773 Posted June 5, 2015 Check out the Vietnam Expansion pack compiled by eburger68 as well. http://combatace.com/files/file/10466-sf2v-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-v20-sep-2014-update/ Its for SF2, however!
+Viper63a 668 Posted June 5, 2015 (edited) What a co-in-ki-dink....I was researching the F-111A for Constant Guard...This is what I have and currently looking up tail numbers. "474th Tactical Fighter Wing The 474th returned to Takhli RTAFB in September 1972. Three F-111A squadrons (the 428th,429th and 430th) participated in the Linebacker II aerial offensive against North Vietnam. They flew bombing missions against targets in North Vietnam and Laos in the midst of the monsoon season. They flew without RB-66E electronic countermeasures escort aircraft or KC-135 tankers. On 8 November 1972, they flew 20 strikes over North Vietnam in weather that grounded other aircraft. Four F-111As could deliver the bomb loads of 20 F-4s. The 428th,429th and 430th TFS flew some 4000 combat missions with excellent success rates in hitting targets even when visibility was near zero. Only six aircraft were lost in action. All F-111A had tail code of NA, but I've seen them with the following as well. 428th NA429th HG430th NC The F-111A was the initial production version of the F-111. Early A-models used the TF30-P-1 engine. Most A-models used the TF30-P-3 engine with 12,000 lbf (53 kN) dry and 18,500 lbf (82 kN) afterburning thrust[20] and "Triple Plow I" variable intakes, providing a maximum speed of Mach 2.3 (1,450 mph, 2,300 km/h) at altitude.[78] The variant had a maximum takeoff weight of 92,500 lb (42,000 kg) and an empty weight of 45,200 lb (20,500 kg). 474th Tactical Fighter Wing – Deployed from Nellis AFB428th Tactical Fighter Squadron F-111A (1968–1977)429th Tactical Fighter Squadron F-111A (1969–1977)430th Tactical Fighter Squadron F-111A (1969–1977) Triumphant Return: Linebacker Operations and Beyond (1972-1975)By 1972, the F-111A was thoroughly tested, technical issues had been resolved, and the aircraft was fully operational. The F-111A and its crews performed brilliantly and with great success during Operations Linebacker and Linebacker II. They struck heavily-defended enemy airfields and SAM sites. Between October 1972 and March 1973, F-111A crews flew over 4,000 combat sorties but lost only six aircraft in combat." =Viper= Edited June 5, 2015 by viper63a
MigBuster 2,887 Posted June 6, 2015 All F-111A had tail code of NA, but I've seen them with the following as well. 428th NA 429th HG 430th NC I have Art plates done for the skins but cant post them for copyright reasons The 1968 detachment had no tail codes - just a small USAF with the BU number underneath in black The 428/429/430 were "NA" codes (white) in 1972 till 1973 when they became 347 TFW jets and were recoded "HG". Haven't found NC so far
