Bavaria, this in from the U.S. Air Force's 52nd Fighter Wing out of Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany:

A U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft assigned to the 480th Fighter Squadron from Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, crashed at approximately 9:38 a.m. near Engelmannreuth, about 28km northwest of Grafenwoehr.

The accident happened during a training flight at U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria in Grafenwoehr.

The pilot safely ejected and was transported to a local hospital and is in good condition.

U.S. military first responders are working with German authorities to secure the crash site. A 1,000-foot/350-meter cordon was established to protect the crash site and begin investigations.

All persons are requested to stay away from the vicinity of the site for their own safety and not to impede on the response efforts.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

Interestingly the plane crash caused only a minor woodfire and this under the conditions of very warm and dry weather. The woods are very dry at the moment, but the fire was only minor. Perhaps there was not much fuel in the plane and perhaps it crashed because it run out of fuel? Only a guess.

An other point which might be interesstingly is the use of ABC protection suites by the german fire fighters. It was caused because the F-16 use Hydrazin and this is strong toxic.
