+ludo.m54 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 View File Mirage F1AZ Mirage F1AZ (1975-1991) This mod is dedicated to BPAO, nothing would have been possible without him. Single-seat strike and multi-role fighter. It is a simplified attack version with extra fuel in place of radar and some other all-weather avionics. The South African Air Force recognized the advantages of a simplified version of the Mirafe F1CZ for day visual attack missions. The resulting Dassault-Breguet Mirage F1AZ is visually distinguished by having a slender conical nose, resulting from removal of the large Cyrano IVM radar. In its place is the ESD Aïda II ranging radar and a laser-ranger, with a large instrument boom housing the pitot/static heads attached on the underside of the nose. The main avionics racking is moved from behind the cockpit to the nose, making room for an extra fuselage tank. Other additions are a Doppler radar and a retractable refueling probe. South Africa received 32 aircraft for service with No. 1 Sqn. The aircraft were withdrawn from service in 1997. Covered unit : N°1 Squadron Early Camo. N°1 Squadron Experimental Camo. This addon is and will in all cases remain freeware. Released under CombatAce Fair-Use terms. Enjoy The Mirage F-1 Team. Submitter ludo.m54 Submitted 09/21/2015 Category Mirage F1 5 1 Quote
jeanba Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Hello I have a question about CME : Which type of pod did the F1AZ typically carried ? Did it carry internal chaffs and flares ? I think those were installed in 1988. Because in Baxter's book (SAAF in Border War) there are some images of F1AZ firing flares ... Thank you in advance Edited June 2, 2016 by jeanba Quote
+ludo.m54 Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 During the Border War, Mirage F-1AZ used ELT-555 ECM pods. About chaffs and flares, may be the Az received the same upgrade than the CZ, but I'm not sure. Quote
+Crusader Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 They stuffed a few chaff packs into the airbrakes ( i think the latest version of the data inis should have that, a one-time dump of 4x chaff ) The RIMS update was ongoing during the end of the border war, but most aircraft received it post-war. jeanba Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Thank you Yes, the RIMS update came too late, but it is likely that they fit decoys in the parachute fairings, as did the French for most of their Mirages, though there is no confirmation Quote
+Crusader Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 I think that a few aircraft received the special fins on the fuselage underside with integrated flare launchers, replacing the standard fins. So a partial RIMS fitment to counter the IR SAM threat. No modification to the brake parachute housing. The photo in the book shows a fully RIMS-updated F1AZ (1988+), you can see the mountings for the pods on the 0-station. Quote
+ludo.m54 Posted November 4, 2021 Author Posted November 4, 2021 Version 2.7 has been uploaded. We choose to make a specific early version (1975-1991). The late version will follow. 2 Quote
