S! Pilots,

If I would have found this place before getting sucked into the "Its Arcade" vortex, being chained to F4 and JFA and all of its "Sim" or bust mentality, I would have been a much happier pilot. I was so brainwashed I ditched my WOV,...got my 18 carrier quals from a cert-tech and went hot-cold on the whole idea of flying jets because of the intense "Study" aspect of the load of the info.

Now that that's all over and I don't want to prove anything to anyone (old age I guess) im tiptoeing around in SF2VN...mostly recon as I attempt to re-learn to love the whole fighter-pilot thing on my own terms...lots of auto-pilot, streaming "Radio Vietnam" (live365) and oldskool Banquet...

Thanks for being here CA.

Welcome the CombatAce and the Strike Fighters 2 series! Might I suggest giving both the Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Knowledge Base & Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Knowledge Base a through look over as many common questions are answered there.

Beyond that feel free to ask questions, there are a lot of good people around here who will be happy to help you out.

Tappedops, based on your short post I guess I'm possibly in your similar boat. I mean, after all, we're sitting in front of a computer being "armchair pilots". It ain't real and too much pretending just sacrifices the fun factor.

So welcome and wish you enjoy this sim/game (or whatever it'd be called) and have fun. :)

Tappedops, just a question, how familiar are you with installing MODs in SF2? I just realized that I have just dumped large and potentially complicated mod on you and you might not be experienced in SF2 mod installation.

Thanks Do335...you may have nailed it...sim/game...for me it was all study and no playground that got to me...SF2 is a do alot, do alittle, or do nothing---until the sams launch...lol... but yes piloting this sim is doable with alittle effort, alittle reading, and alittle help from fellow pilots like yourself...

No worries KJ... ive got a clone copy ill mess with as far as the addons... I have a degree in IL2 patcholigy...plus I stayed at a holliday inn express 4 years ago...

Affirm I listened to it last night.

Napalm is a US bomb. I believe so it will mount on any US plane.

best for practice, would be Armed Recon missions on The Range terrain. You can nape whole convoys of trucks.

weapons loading are base on the AttachmentType= statement in the aircraft's data ini (the BLU series of napalm canisters is considered a BOMB), where and how many loaded in the aircraft's loadout ini, exportation (true or false) of the weapons, and years available

Thanks Wrench...

Im still reworking the stick assignments and the like...nothing like being a noob who has thousands of hours in hundreds of ships over a decade of sims and cant lock a bogie whos blocking your view...

Tappedops, a few things you might find useful.

These articles, A2A Weapons Delivery In Strike Fighters by Andy Bush (4 pages long) and Techniques For Weapons Delivery In SFP1 by Andy Bush and Leon “Badboy” Smith (2 pages long).

Also take a look at the documents I have attached.

Ok...kinda what I thought---example, in the first download you gave me if you open up the to mods folder...those sub folders get dragged and dropped to my SF2VN main where there match folders are...cool.

While I gotcha here...I love doing recon in the Corsair, but now and then I run across a bogie...:is there an air to air explanation for that ship---I just want to keep it simple and map my stick in simplest terms ...there cant be more than 4 or5 keys involved... Thanks

Most of the A-7's use the Avionics60.dll so for them just hit the backspace key to set the gun sight to Air to Air and keep hitting it to cycles through you Air to Air weapons, for the A-7 the guns or sidewinders if you have any loaded. Now the A-7 has multiple radar modes so use the "Page Up" to select "boresight" mode for close up dog fighting. Then you just put the pipper on aircraft and you get ether missile lock if in parameters or your gunsight will start computing proper lead. If you acquire the wrong target then just use the Del key unlock it.

Basically what is described is this thread holds true for the A-7 as well, you just don't have any radar guided AAMs.  SF Series Guide: How to Use the F-4 Radar and RWR

I would recommend that you print out the "sf2kb1b.jpg" and "sf2kb2c.jpg" files I included in the a zip file I attached earlier and put them on your desk until your memorize the weapons and armament keys.

Now as for mapping joystick buttons I need to ask what joystick are you using?
