Hey Does anyone know when WTR will release?  Or if they have a website? Couldn't find anything after googling it... I REALLY hope that project is still going haha

There is currently not a release date, but yes the project is still being developed. Check out their forum right here on Combatace. They've been relatively active with progression pictures.

As Blackburn said, I can`t speak for them, but they are posting frequently updates.

they have a very talented team of modders and code writers... Projects seems running very good.

There is a web site, but it is mainly an in memorium one now , they use our very own CA as a home base it would seem , which is fantastic, I have been watching the work they are doing and its bloody great.....looking forward to it being released, but as with all things its a labour of love .

Since the General Discussion forum is the most visited forum, we wanted to post a few teaser WTR screenshots here.  However, we encourage you to visit our dedicated forum with additional screenies and details, thanks!

      >For Strike Fighters 2 games
This is my sky enhancement mod. It also combines the work of many other modders, in order to provide a realistic, better looking sky. Here below a quick summary of the changes:
-Tweaked sky colours, something in between Cellinsky's widesky and the stock SF2 colours.
-More realistic Night colours, sky and ambient are much darker.
-More atmospheric, reddish transition from Twilight to Night.
-New "dark blue" High Altitude colours (fly near space with a NF-104).
-Moon produces a yellowish light instead of the default purple.
-Sky is "wider" much like Cellinsky's widesky mod (background horizon clouds are bigger and more noticeable).
-Added beautiful cloud graphics made by Cellinsky and ShrikeHawk, tweaked for each weather type.
-Added a low number of stray clouds to Clear weather.
-Added noticeable clouds to Overcast weather and Inclement weather, "fixing" a known SF2 "bug".
-Combined various mods to produce a more interesting Rain Effect under Inclement weather.
-Added Stary's lens flare effects from the SARCASM 2 mod, in place of Cellinsky's widesky effects.
-Added Cloud Layer graphics by Stary, Fubar512 and Brain32.
-Reworked secondary atmospheric effects, such as contrails and wingtip vortexes.
In addition, the package includes alternative environment configuration files in the Alternative Weather folder; they enable different effects for the Inclement weather. You can choose between thunderstorm (default, adapt for most terrains), snowstorm (for cold, icy terrains) and sandstorm (for hot, desert terrains).
For those who wish not to change the effect globally, I highly suggest to try the included terrain-specific environment example provided for stock SF2 terrains; the default global effect is thunderstorm, while terrains with their own environment file either use sandstorm or snowstorm as appropriate. Use this as a basis to customize other terrains.
By setting the Effects to Unlimited, the game makes use of a DirectX 10 post processing effect; the stock game's post processing shader generates a pointless and horrible bloom effect which excessively blinds the player during twilight transitions.
By default, realSKY includes a reworked post processing shader (TWPOSTPROCESS.FX) which provides more contrast, more vignetting, minor color correction and a daytime-only bloom effect, so it's miles better than what the stock game offers. Alternative post processing tweaks are included in the Alternative Shaders folder; choose the one you wish to try (check the included screenshots for fast comparisons) and overwrite the default one in your mod's Flight folder.
If you don't care about the post processing effect, you may want to set the game's Effects to High in the Options menu.

      >Credits (in no particular order):
-Cellinsky, for his fantastic widesky mod from which I borrowed some tweaks.
-Stary, for his Thunderstorm and Heavy Snowfall weather mods, and his SARCASM 2 beta mod from which I borrowed some effects.
-PanamaRed, for tweaks in regards to Clouds (especially the Broken weather ones).
-Fubar512 and Brain32, for their Cloud Layer Top bitmaps, which I have smoothed for a better looking effect.
-ShrikeHawk, for his CloudSkins mods, from which I took the spectacular cloud graphics.
-BearGryllis, for his Thunderstorm Pack With Enhanced Lightnings 2.0b package.
-Orsin, for his Improved Rain Effect and Heavy Rain 0.8 mods.
-luk1978, for his interesting WeatherEffect package.
-ArmedLightning, for his Special FX v2.2 mod for the GTR 2 game, from which I borrowed a lens flare effect.
-baffmeister, for the idea of recreating sandstorm weather effects.
-tiopilotos, for suggesting improvements on other subjects.
-Eagle114th, for his Improved Wingtip Vortex mod which I have reworked.
-JosefK, guuruu and Coupi, for their interest and support.
I included the original readme files from the mentioned mods, where available, to the end of giving proper credit to everyone involved directly or not.

      >Disclaimer:
This is a freeware; yet it can be redistributed ONLY in other CombatACE mods/mod packages.
This mod may NOT in any way, shape or form be used in any payware additions.

When Thunder Rolled and Winds of Change - September 2021
It is with great excitement today we announce some updates and increasing momentum of the When Thunder Rolled Project.
Perhaps the most significant news is a Leadership change.  All founding members have approved the nomination and acceptance of a new Project Leader that has demonstrated the proficiency, commitment and quality demanded in this critical role.  Leveraging his solid understanding of the Thirdwire sims, and recent leadership roles with other initiative including Operation Desert Storm, will set us up for greater success.  With this change, we are expecting a surge in activity and progress which has us energized and excited.
On a tactical level, our top focus/priority now continues to be on finalizing terrain work - creating incredibly accurate depictions of the Vietnam topography, cities/towns, airbases, enhanced terrain tiles (e.g., honoring requests for more rice paddies), etc.  This terrain of course will serve as the foundation for everything else.
We continue to excel in enhancing immersion and realism – leveraging outsourced professionals to help with creating dense jungle environments, realistic sky environments and more.  These efforts are a cycle of ongoing experiments balancing how much we can push this old game engine and still maintain acceptable frame rates.
We have also been making progress in many other areas such as creating realistically detailed target areas.  For example, when you strike an enemy military storage area in WTR, we promise it won’t be a generic “Warehouse1” – see proof below!  Next up on the target area list is creating a cluttered rail yard supporting Ed’s June 20, 1966 attack on the Railyard NorthEast of Kep Airfield.  New models will include a marshalling yard with new train cars, rail yard support buildings, service equipment and more.
Also noteworthy perhaps:  while not formally adopted on the development roadmap but under consideration – we have received requests over the past few years regarding Yankee Air Pirate (YAP) compatibility.  A majority of former YAP team members have already been involved with the WTR Project so this continues to be assessed and a greater possibility.
Please enjoy the screenshots below; note these are lower res/compressed versions and representative of unedited actual gameplay.
As always, we welcome and encourage community support.   If you are interested in contributing, please send me a Private Message (PM).
Finally, very special thanks to Erik for all his support and hosting our exclusive forum.  Please feel free to share your thoughts and comments in this forum, thank you.

An F-105 drops its payload over North Vietnam amidst heavy cloudy skies.

Our brand new scratch F-100F; its dazzling bare metal skin catching the morning sun on an enemy air defense suppression (Wild Weasel) mission.

Vivid Morning Skies over a small Vietnam Village lose their tranquility as enemy AAA chase after the contrails of an F-105 strike package (top right).

Another brand new scratch model, this time showcasing the Mig-17 featuring an insane level of detail and perfect for you rivet counters.

Rough inner coastal waters demonstrated by new water effects roll in to disrupt a peaceful beach.

An NVA solider driving the SA-2 missile transporter takes a quick break along the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Yet another new scratch model, the AH-1 Skyraider!  Employing a low bomb pass this skillful pilot scores a direct hit on an enemy truck convoy just clearing a ridge along the Ho Chi Minh trail.

The sheer beauty of Vietnam, rolling hills, lush jungles and colorful fields serve as a momentary distraction from the war.

May 3, 1966.   Ed Rasimus’ first recorded combat mission successfully strikes a Dong Hoi military storage area in Route Pack 1.

Bonus Screenie:  re-creation of YAP “JumpMyers” downed pilot rescue mission integrated with the WTR Project leveraging brand new Jolly Green helo model, rescue pilot, special effects, etc
