Only this time i'm flying for the other side! My current pilot is Oleg Petrov and i'll get into character with the next reports as i just want to get things going and since i flew these lte yesterday, i've probally forgotten a few details. First sortie. Did not turn out as planned. We took off and headed towards the front as we knew that the enemy was going to be very active. As we were within 30 kms of the front, control told that there were enemy planes just ahead but they had changed course and were heading west. However, our rate of closure was enough to convince me that they were probaly bombers or recce aircraft so we kept pursuing. Right over Hof we got notice of two groups of enemies to the slightly to the southwest and northwest. The one from the southwest was low and had more aircraft so it was probaly bombers and their escorts and so we went after them. Instead,a few moments later two flights of F-100s came roaring up at us. They were Frenchmen and they wanted a fight! The resulting brawl was a revalation. Not only did my fighter handle like a dream and allowed me to down four of the enemy with almost contempuos ease, but also how four of us were shot down in turn with only Major Timofei Gnido scoring a victory over the French in the fight. Fuel soon was low and so we ran for home. Despite hoping the enemy would do the same these were of tough stuff and chased us all the way and shot down the rest until only i was left with two of them trying to kill me. As i over flew the base at low level and the air defenses opened up, i got an inspiration. Flying low and slow, i contantly turned into the enemies attacks and did my utmost to lure them right over the guns. The enemy took the bait and were hooked! One was damaged and fled and the other went down trailing smoke about 100m from the runway! We certainly need to change what we are doing. The second sortie was perfect. Sasha Babonin and i were on alert when we took off on a call. The weather was horrible but control was perfect. We went were vectored right onto the enemy and came out of the clouds right behind them about two kilometers range. With the speed we built up in the dive we closed on A pair of Yankee F-105s in a flash and engaged them. They didn't stand a chance. JR LT Babonin opened missed with his first burst at the leader just a second before i opened fire the wingman. Flaming the F-105, i manuvered towards the the other target, got in close to make sure of it and shot this one down also. Hah, they didn't make it closer than 35kms to Mimon! Perhaps that'll show the Yankees that we are not without sting. Control verified the kills and we went home.
  2. Here's what i had to do to solve the problem... I tried all kinds of discarding and copying but nothing seemed to work until i ran across an older WOE install that i have stashed in an external HD. I simply replaced the buggy 17F folder with a copy of the stock model from the old game. Tested it in single mission and it was just fine and so i got Ace Pilot a quick campaign flight to take a look and the MIGs are there. Everythings go! Damn glad i prefer to hold on the older stuff rather than just dump it.
  3. In a MIG17F, that must had been a perfect intercept! Taking into account escorts, fuel, weather, the F-105 cruise speed, gunnery, etc, etc. In WOE i've only ever had successful missions like that against MIG17s and MIG21s in the early days since in the later campaigns i try to engage the escorts and have my wingman go after the strike aircraft. You also can't chase the enemy too far over the front as you'll soon be engaged by SAM. That French Hun driver from above? IIRC in another sortie he downed 7 inbound MIG17s before running out of ammo.
  4. Check out the readme that comes with it and break it down to a step by step action. Also look in the Knowledge Base as that's where you can figure out how to use that editor. http://combatace.com/gallery/image/18944-img00745jpg/ http://combatace.com/gallery/image/18945-img00748jpg/
  5. Look up John Boyd USAF. That'll get you started on the cobra manuver.
  6. http://combatace.com/files/file/2658-bombing-range-terrain/ You are going to spend a whole lot of time working things out here.
  7. It takes a bit getting used to what are in essence, glide bombs. For optical guided bombs you need to get the Range download if you don't already have it as it's going to take some practice to get things right. They're to keep you out of the worst of the AAA so you are going to be making the attack and weapons release from higher altitudes then dive bombing as well as much further away from the target. The two key things are getting a solid lock and the right release point. Ideally, you'll have clear weather. Come in at about 20,000ft. 15 miles out or so select the weapon. As of this moment your gunsight doesn't exist as the view coming from the camera in the weapon is your whole world. Those crosshairs are what you are going to be flying, ignore everything and keep an eye on the tube. About 10 miles or so, drop the nose towards the target and watch the crosshairs. A slight adjustment here and there and soon you'll see them snap into a lock. Pickle the weapon and that's it. If you made a textbook approach you should be well above the triple A and in a good position to get the hell out of dodge. As for your other questions it depends on the situation and what version of a missle you are using. Do some searches in this forum and you'll find more a lot info on that subject. Gun range is rather moot as the best thing you can do is to get to point blank range and cut loose. My personal view is that further than 400 meters is out of range.
  8. Hey Flogger! As it turns out i found a compatible driver and things are back to normal though i'm still looking for something new. It's just a first look as i'm just beginning a new search. The one i'm looking at now is an Emachines ET1331-45, priced at about $350. All i'm looking for is the comp itself as i'm satisfied with the keyboard and monitor i currently use. I had a roommate a few years ago who built and sold systems so i was really lucky at the time since i knew what hardware i needed to hot rod my budget brand computer and he had the know how to get it put together. Too bad i lost contact with him! Before i forget, remember your thread aabout the MIG25 and the problems you had with it's speed? Fly the recce version in ODS and it's the next best thing to flying an SR-71. Granted it's a hell of a lot harder vs F-14s and F-15s.
  9. Nice ride! I've been meaning to get a bike for some years now as here in the desert Southwest, you can putt on wide open roads year round.
  10. I got nailed hard by a virus attack yesterday and though i've gotten everything prety much restored or sorted out, Nvidia no longer handles XP updates for my video drivers so that's pretty much a dead end. I've been meaning to get a new comp for a year or so to be that could handle the the WO*2 series as well as the stuff up in RP 6 in WOV that brings my current machine to a crawl (Emachines T3120) as well as handling a few other things as well. I intend to retire the T3120 from gaming use and just use it for general use Funny enough, one of the first things i found when i looked online was another E-machines product. The price is right and it's easliy available to me out in the middle of nowhere. First though i'd figure on asking for the opinions of others here. Processor (speed, L2 cache, FSB) AMD Athlon™ II X2 Processor 255 (3.1GHz | 2MB total cache) Preloaded Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Video Graphics Integrated Graphics; NVIDIA® GeForce® 6150 SE Serial ATA Hard Drive 1TB SATA (green product - variable RPM) Memory 3072MB DDR2 dual channel (1 × 2048MB, 1 × 1024MB) Maximum Memory 4 GB Think it's worthwhile?
  11. Something i've been meaning to ask for a long time. My personal best that i positively remember and have records of is 9. I was doing WOE during 62 and was in a French squadron flying F-100s. "Incoming Raid" was the word and so it was a maximum effort for us. Taking off, i zoomed up to 20,000ft and set off at full burner towards the enemy. As we neared each other it wasn't IL28s like i expected, but bomb carrying MIG21s escorted by MIG19s. So i went in behind them and went to work. Got 7 inbound MIG21s and 2 on the way out, 7 of them gun kills. The last one was a doozy. I was so caught up with getting in as close as possible that i collided with the MIG just as the cannons shells ripped him apart and so had to bail out! The things that stuck out were friendly fighters showing up and taking pressure off of me, shooting down a MIG right over the base, and still having 200 rounds of 20mm when i punched out! That pilot(who's name i'll never recall)ended up with 59 kills before colliding with another MIG21 and bailing out into Soviet imprisonment. So share your best!
  12. Ok, will give it a go when i get back from work.
  13. I'll try things out in a while but here's the problem... The Mig17F not only does not show up at all except for the drop tanks,if you jump into the cockpit for a flight the initial view and the gunsight is is skewed to 9 o'clock.
  14. carabinero 21 May 2010 - 06:50:49 PM | #3 Mig-17F, doesn't show skin and a twisted cockpit, I just see a pair of external tanks nothing else....how can I solve it? WOE-Europe at War Mod. I have the same problem and i seem to be overlooking the way towards a solution. Any hints?
  15. Be prepared to experience a wild time with ODS.
  16. Drive on!
  17. That was a pretty famous case Derk. I remember it from the news and newspapers of the time and It also got quite a lot of attention online. I always wondered why they didn't bury the guy under the jail but i forgot he had connections.
