Skin request A4D-1/ A-4A
Wrench replied to Toryu's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
it's called 'use decals'. Since the Modex is on the fuselage, opens the nose mesh for the mouth of course, knowing the colors of the tail stripes would help... -
Problem with ships.
Wrench replied to dukav6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
which ships? 98.6% of the 'addon' ships don't have the requred collison mesh, thereby making them unvulnerable. there's several threads here at CA about that very fact ... the search function should help there. Search for "SF2 ships not destroyable" -
Converting to Jpeg Format for Skins
Wrench replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
irfan? shoot, i've had/been using that for years! totally forgot that it converts! interestering to note, if one extracts various and sundry skin maps for their cat; many stock are still bmp, and just as many are jpg (the new tomcats, ferinstance!) -
Converting to Jpeg Format for Skins
Wrench replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
amen, brother! although the new F-80 dds skin is just over 2 megs (2048x), the template is 4096x and weighs in at 356 megs!!! Almost totally chokes PS7; brings it to a screaming halt when opening, saving and closing -

i haven't actually looked at ace's. (after all, I just restumbled on my mod, which is based of TMF's blk10 NDC) tell ya what, I'll d/l aces, put in the I/P mod, and make my reccomendations. At worst, I'll check with Sony (I'm one of the few that actually still ask TMF members for permission), and just call it as is "F-16A_Pak" -
Converting to Jpeg Format for Skins
Wrench replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
i haven't done if for all planes, but it works MUCH better (and I dislike dds formats -even though we're working a lot of aircraft for KAW in dds) I think it may simply have to do with the sheer size of bmp vs jpg (texture memory? -not exactly sure how that works). I haven't noticed ANY reduction of 'eye candy' on several new ones I've been fiddling with. I don't know the mechanics, but it's much better, expecialy when you have a 24meg skin that now become 3megs...and everyone always has limited HD space Dave, like DA said ... how does it work? Since all skins are folderized speratly ... it can take hours to convert -
SON-9A "FIrecan" AAA Fire Control Radar
Wrench posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
File Name: SON-9A "FIrecan" AAA Fire Control Radar File Submitter: Wrench File Submitted: 06 July 2012 File Category: SF2 Series Add On Objects SON-9A "Firecan" by Julhelm. This model represents a SON-9 (NATO reporting name, Firecan) fire control radar. It's set up to datalink with the KS-19 100 MM AAA gun. I've included the data.ini file with the appropriate network edits to allow that weapon to work in conjunction with the SON-9. This model is set up as "Static_AAA", as that is the only way that it will work properly. That is, track its target, network with the aforementioned gun types, and to illuminate the "AAA" warning light on an aircraft's annunciator panel. INSTALLATION: Simply drop the Firecan and the KS-19 folders into the Objects/GroundObject subfolder, under the Saved Games/Thirdwire/Strike FightersX folder. If warned about a file or folder overwrite (which should be the case for just the KS-19), simply accept the overwrite and continue. The game engine will automatically place the unit wherever it deems fit. Known issue: This model will not cast a shadow, and only the developer can rectify that. Model and textures by Julhelm, data.ini work by Fubar512. *Be advised to rename/remove/move any other versions of the Firecan* Click here to download this file -

This one was, albeit I never did get around to releasing it (the readme is dated almost exactly 1 year ago -7/21/2011) ... 100% historical serials. It don't take much effort to make things right. EDIT: totally forgot about this one by, ace888. Doncha love doing double work? http://combatace.com/files/file/12262-sf2-pakistan-viper-skin-pack/ -

Wrench replied to snapper 21's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
don't forget, when painting on national insignia, it 'grays out' the displayed nation name in the loadout screen (not a real issue for a transport), unless the 'level1 decal cheat' is used. http://combatace.com/topic/70682-nationality-fix-for-painted-on-insginia/ -
SF2 merging files
Wrench replied to johnrey's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
by default, because the 'core files' are seperate from any/all mods folders -and are used by all mods folders-, ALL titles are merged. -

"Civilian" Gas Truck
Wrench posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
File Name: "Civilian" Gas Truck File Submitter: Wrench File Submitted: 05 July 2012 File Category: Ground Object Mods Civilian Fuel Truck = SF/Wo* & SF2 series Games (Any and All!) = A simple repaint of the stock Zil Fuel truck into something more 'civilian' looking for use around airports and such like. The templates are supplied (they're 1024x, so easy to work with) to allow other skinners the opportunity to create other skins. Also supplied, is a red Phillips 66 skin, easily swapped. The inis supplied herein are in ANSI format, allowing for use in both 1stGen SF/Wo* and SF2 series. See the 'To Install' section below for more notes, and how to add to Terrains as a seperate item via _types and _targets editing. As always, fairly easy to follow, yet detailed install instructions are included. Please read them! They'll all add a little color to an otherwise drab setting. Happy Gassing! wrench kevin stein Click here to download this file -

hmmmmmm........ maybe all the more reasons to develop more WW2 mods for this engine*? Guns only; hard to cheatout that! (* I mean, we only need to replace like 200 aircraft....and some dozens of ships/tanks/vheicles, etc) -

honetsly, the only time I noticed the stutttttttteeeerrrrr on Avi60 birds, was when the cockpit was 'on'. It seemed to go away in the no-cockpit view. So, I wonder if it's not something in how the cockpit is rendered? -

The Next Skin Pack from TK.
Wrench replied to SkateZilla's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hence, in my personal opinion, the main reason we don't/haven't/and are exceedingly unlikely to see templates ever again from 3W. but, oth, I DO like the idea of skinpak BLTs opss... DLCs (was thinking about lunch!). Wonder if it's just the Angles, or more skins. haveing such things does fit into the trend i've been noticing of 'the unable/unwilling/unwanting' to learn to mod End User .
