Wrench replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements

MiG-25BM Foxbat-F {SEAD variant} by Team Foxbat. This post was originally to help out another member get the loadout sorted, but I thought it'd be a good idea to add it, so it dosen't get lost in the shuffle. The fixes herein will also include adding running and landing lights. I've moved the hardpoint around a little, and addind a 'stand-in' drop tank, as the 5500 liter version has never materalized. So, without further ado... data ini: Loadout Ini: Lighting Fixes: Note, these same fixes can be applied to any of the other Foxbat variants, excpeting perhaps the 2-seater. I haven't looked at that one yet. In the FUSELAGE section, add these SystemNames LeftOuterWing/RightOuterWing seem to already have the SystemName listings. In VertTail1, add... And in the empty //Lights section...add this junk below. And that should pretty much be that. Enjoy! Wrench kevin stein

MIG 25 Question
Wrench replied to snapper 21's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yet another interestering development!! Mine were all tested in WoE!!! You got the bunyap wepons pak in, right???, Cause the Kilters aren't n the TMF pak. Easy enough to add, of course That weight will also allow for the other Soviet ARMs too, but they all have pretty much the same operational years, so mine defaults to the Kh-58s (as pointed to in the loadout ini) On a side note, whilst fiddling with this, it seems the smaller ones (Keglers?) can be loaded on some Fishbeds, along with the Su-17/20/22 (and the as-yet-to-be-seen) Su-24 and 25, and some Floggers. the 'factory5' object is a small cylindrical tank laying on it's side, with a support structure (like a propane tank). It also as an emitter for a small smoke stream... I renamed it 'cryo-storage tank', like for LOX or LNitogen, kinda thing. Had a picture of it, but can't seem to find right now Wrench kevin stein -

MIG 25 Question
Wrench replied to snapper 21's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hmm...that was intrestering, as the Chinese curse goes. This is the stock, as issued loadouts, 500 kg max....here's the loadout screen: You'll note there's nothing listed, yet the hardpoints most definately have something loaded, as shown by the black dots. If they're colored in, the weapon has loaded. That shows that the weapon itself weighs more than the 'allowed max' of the hardpoint. In game: Kilters are most definately there. You'll note my experiment with the Su-7 tank. It's been replaced. Fiddlling with the max weight gave, like a I said, some 'interestering' results. 500kg, as seen above. 600kg; the same thing. At 700kg; you'd think that'd be more than enough, the hardpoint disappears....nothing can be loaded. So, I says to meself, lets split the difference. The missile weight 650, 700 makes the HP disappear, lets go to 675.... That seems to do the trick...I've also switched over to the 800lt Fishbed tank. I moved the hardpoints around, fixed the 'StationFT' callout. So. here's the weapons stations for the data ini: And your new loadout ini. Note, I didn't do anything with the centerline bomb stations. I figured it would need the fuel tank more. I have a lighting fix; don't remember if I ever posted it in the KB or not...it's off the 25PD, but as they all share the same physical sizes, it should work. In the FUSELAGE section, add these SystemNames LeftOuterWing/RightOuterWing seem to already have the SystemName listings. In VertTail1, add... And in the empty //Lights section...add this junk below. Be sumping like this... The wingtip light may need moving inboard a cm or so...it's close enough!! Wrench kevin stein -

Hmm....mine is already set that way. 4 Kilters, no tank. Have to fiddle with that DT, too. Wish we had that damn tank!!! Let me refly it, and get back to you. Wrench kevin stein -
Which airbases would be a must have on Balkans map?
Wrench replied to Brain32's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Don't think Turkey will be usable on that map....it's beyond "The Wall". Remember, 80km in from the map edge is where it starts. But, if you really want to add more than Aviano (obviously!), based on what I'm doing to the Libya ver3, -Sicly- Trapani Brigi NAS Sigonella Catania -Italy- Tito Minniti (at the toe of the boot) probably someting at 'the heel' of the boot -Greece- Andravida I'm sure there are others usable in Western Greece. I'll have to look. You want country flags for it??? Easy enough to make Wrench kevin stein -

You know there's a Himilaya terrain, right??? As to Norway, will we have Slartibartfast's signature in the glaciers??? Now that we have the EF2K....Norway's the place!!! Maps, maps and more maps....plus a few more terrain objects are what the game needs!!! Wrench kevin stein -
MIG 25 Question
Wrench replied to snapper 21's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Unfortunately, they've never been around. Odd thing is, none of the loadout inis actually callout for a drop tank - for ANY of the Foxbats. I've checked all of them (there's, what, 5 or 6 variants out?), in 6 different game installs (as I sometimes forget to update one or another), and none have tanks. I'd have thought that would have, at some point, carried them. If you want to add one, I'd suggest the 790L Mig-23 tank. The name to use on the data & loadout inis is "Tank790_MiG23" Wrench kevin stein -

Super Squeek Tweaks
Wrench replied to Jug's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
So this little tweek don't get lost, I've copied the post, and the attached text into the Knowledge Base, in the "Specific Fixes for Modded Installs" Forum Full post is here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showt...st&p=157019 For some reason, it won't let me change the poster name, but I've made sure your's shows at the top and bottom of the post. You're now a Contributor!!! Congrats, Jug!!! Wrench kevin stein -
By Jug: Three changes to the A-Teams sweet A-37B 1) Get rid of the dude in the right seat. All you see is his fat face looking right and visibility is poor in that direction with him there. Most Super Squeek missions were solo anyway. 2) Add a landing light. Helps out on night landings a bunch. 3) Re-activate the canopy animation. It is hot in Vietnam! Information below will accomplish these: To get rid of the CoPilot in the A-37B Go into the A-37B_COCKPIT.INI file and look for the following lines: Instrument[xxx]= Add a new line in that area, next in number sequence: Instrument[xxx]=Move1 (or something similiar in name) Then, add these lines to the bottom of that same file: Open the A-37B_Data.Ini and go about half way down in the crew section. Rem out as follows: Rem means add two '/' (slash) marks in front of the line telling the program to ignore this line. Save this file. ****************************************************************************** If you want to add a landing light then add the following line to the "Nose" section of the A-37B_data.ini file: SystemName[xxx]=landinglight Where XXX as the next number in the SystemName list in the "Nose" section. Then add the following to the end of the lighting section: If it doesn't look quite right, move it around using the following as a guide: Position=(right/left of centerline),(fwd/aft from acft center),(above/below acft center) **************************************************************************************** If you want the canopy to open on the ground and close during takeoff roll, then overwrite the rem'd "Canopy" section of the A-37B_data.ini file with the following: Jug

There's a microware tower in the Factory place; that could be usable, but I think it's on the rather tall side, probably on the order of 20-30 meters in height. It's taller than the GuardTower1 by about 1/3rd. Look for 'satantenne' I, too, am looking for a large signpost/billboard..... Fracture had one started. Is there a CitiesWoI.ini?
Wrench replied to Spectre_USA's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
They're easy enough to create ... and brother, don't I know it!!! Having had to do it for the last 5 map tweeks I've released 1) open targets.ini 2) open a blank notepad sheep (or sheet) 3) beginning with TargetArea001, begin listing the 'cities' - which includes any and every target area listed, in the format below: (this is, obviously, from the Libya map) You'll note the numbers aren't exactly the same. The only thing seemingly needed by the TE is the first 3 digits of the target area coordinates. Width and Height I'm still not sure of; I'm assuming (!!!) that it more or less relate to airfields; assuming the 'standard' N/S orientation, Width is e/w and height is n/s -- I may be wrong on that, but I usually get them pretty close. Most usefull for flattening for runways. Mostly, using a 'rectangular' shape, as below. Although, there have been some exceptions, but that has no bearing here. no idea what texture type 16 is -- and as I"m not retileing, it seems to make no difference. In relation of airfeild flattening, that is. I'm assuming (!!!!) the texturelist.ini could be done the same way, using the IsraelME_Data.ini as the base, listing all the terraintiles, including the tgas, as show in there. Wrench kevin stein -
Beriev 2500
Wrench replied to CrimsonRoamer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I second that emotion!! more targets, more fun!!! (to mis-quote the 6-Flags commerical) On another note, what about treating it as a ship, instead of an aircraft? Stick with me for a sec... on on the DS forum, we had a little discussioin of 'moving the model's world center', so that it would sit 'above' the ground at a fixed distance; so it would appear to be flying over the ground at say, 10 meters. This could possiby simulate the WIG effect, although a new wake effect would need to be created for over-water travel. Speeds would, obviously, be aircraft-like, but turns would be ship=like. Just an idea...one I can't take credit for. I'm just parroting what was discussed. Wrench kevin stein -
MiG-23 underwings Tanks
Wrench replied to Wraith27's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
This has already been dealt with.... Check the loadout thread in the Knowledge Base. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=18346 The Wing Tank callouts have been removed from the loadout ini, to simulate the non-usage of those positions. These wing tanks were only carried on ferry flights, where the speed was kept down and the wings not swept. The information used comes direct from folks in Eastern Europe that know the real thing. Libyan update, update
Wrench replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
As long as I can get them shrunk down to fit that little sign post, hell yess I'll take 'em!!! (their size is approx 2/3 of 256x256, sine I'm only using one side of the poster board thingy) Zip them scukers up and shoot 'em over to me...!!!! I'll take whatever ya got. I'm going to make an open appeal in a new thread for 3d moddlers to create some more items -- LNG spheres, large billboards (say 10x5 meter) -- just some nice things to dress up the eye candy. kjstein AT ca DOT rr DOT com There's signs all over the DS, ASW and SoCal maps. So what's a few more in Libya??? They litteraly take minutes to make and just a little longer to place. You speak of the Campaign against the Barbary Pirates. As stated in the Marine Corps Hymn. Just saw something on it on History Channel (or Military Channel) not more than a few weeks ago. Marched overland to attack the city, etc. Wrench kevin stein -
How to get IR SAMs to fire?
Wrench replied to AntEater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Strelas, Stingers, Chaparrels and HAWKs all work fine for me. Check you're using the lastest weapons data for them -- the TMF pak has upgraded Chapparell, and the HAWK fix as well. You can also cross check the HAWK data against what's in Nick Bell's NATO Defense Mod, in the 'Object Mods" secition of the D/L page. Hawks are updated there as well. Stingers and Strelas, again, check the weapons data. Wrench kevin stein -
Hello need some HELP
Wrench replied to Bounder's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Talk to me, baby! Since I created it... If you're bringing it into WoI, you'll need ALL the cockpit bits (lods, tgas, bmps, etc) ALL the aircraft LODs (maybe the SHD file as well, or maybe not) They all are found in the Object.cat in SF, WoV, WoE. Place all the extracted files into the F-100D_IDF folder, and it should work. Don't forget to add the Isreali pilot I made for it as well. Wrench kevin stein -

Libyan update, update
Wrench replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
The Easter Eggs would be my ususal ones - signs with 'interesting' things on them. I definatley need to make one with Mommar's picture on it. The others, well, mostly they say something silly. And here another pisser....we've had this little jem for almost 5 years Never known what that item "airtower" was, as it never had it's 'name' defined in ANY types ini. So, we now have a largish-civilianish control tower. You can see grumpatomus' radar dome in background. Several of the airbases get this or wingwinner's tower H1. Many are also left as the stock red/white one (those bmps are needed for the radardome). Radar domes are cropping up like, well, mushrooms! I'm even thinking that I got them to 'radiate' with some data ini edits (and all set as terrain objects, NEVER as GroundObjects) I 'rediscovered' this little boogger whilst trying to find which item is the microwave tower (that's been sorted too). It's part of Mitch's Factory Place. And always has been! I'll try and add some ruins for eye candy, now that I know where to look/place them. Like the airfields, they may not be exactly in their Real Life positions, but...they'll be something there. I just wish we had some other items to use. All we really got is the "temple1" and "oblesik". Plus the Karnak buildings in Gepard's Isreal/Suez terrains, but that a little too over the top! We could really use more 3d items to dress the place(s) up. What I'd really like is an airbase with 2 parrellel runways...that would make some of the places more like Real Life . I know I've seen differing runways; but just don't remember where! One of the things I really like doing terrains over anything else, is the fact we have real people that've either been there, or live there. Hence, the fun I had with the SoCal map. Wrench kevin stein PS Note to Stick: btw, Pune is just within the 80km limit on Gepard's Kashmir map. Yeah, I been looking at that one too. There's an awful lot of really cool target areas that can be added to that.....that can be a really good map for an Indo-Pak scenario. Just needs some time to get things placed.
