Wrench replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I didn't realize how BIG the plane is! I was thinking standared 3/5 size...this is Monster Mirage!! Keep it going...nice to have it when done! Wrench kevin stein -
Florian's Tornado Rudder
Wrench replied to Heck's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
With these rudder-releate crashes, are you folks in the cockpit, or outside view??? Jus thinking outside the box (or the cockpit!) Also wonder if this isn't another Radeon issue again... Wrench kevin stein -
Would anyone be willing to do a (hopefully) minor skin conversion for me?...
Wrench replied to Rampstrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
The templates for the stock 3rdWire Eagle are available either here or at 3rd Wire's site. (how do you think I did the RAF Desert Pink one with enhanced panel lines????) The rest is simply a matter of decals. As for programs, since Photoshop might be priced out, perhaps Gimp? I'm given to under stand it works with layers for skins, and creats the tga for decals. And it's FREE! Wrench kevin stein -
Dutch East Indies aircraft
Wrench replied to Muesli's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Not too bad! Definatley shrink the roundel size. The P-40E also has a 'warpage' issues on the fueleage, you'll probably want to do code/roundel as a single decal. Like I told scrapper, there's a BEYOND superb template for that over as simmerspaintshop... Same goes for the Mustang, it's more work to start with, but it looks better in the long run using decals (depending on weathering, of course) Wrench kevin stein -
Single missions, SO FAR AWAY
Wrench replied to Spectre_USA's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The MinStrikeValue is awfully high... I've used "20" for the DS mod, but in several others, I've set it down to "05". That opens a WHOLE slew of low-value targets (as defined in the terrain types inis) You could find you flight tasked with blowing up a parked fuel truck, barracks, outhouse, moose, what ever! Now mind you, that DOES create some problems with unvulnerable targets (like the concrete pad for the Factory Place), so the varying entries would need to be adjusted in the types ini, thusly: [TargetType098] Name=ground_platte3 FullName=Concrete Pad ModelName=ground_platte3.lod TargetType=MISC ActiveYear=0 TargetValue=0 <- note lack of value UseGroundObject=FALSE DamagePoint=0 ArmorValue=0.0 ArmorType=0 RepairRate=10.0 StartDetectChance=100 StartIdentifiedChance=50 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=10 MaxVisibleDist=30000.0 ZBufferOffset=6.000000 FlatObject=TRUE DamagedModel= DestroyedEffect= DestroyedModel= SecondaryChance=0 Wrench kevin stein -
Hawk 75 ML-KNIL (NEI)
Wrench replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Thank Derk! I don't know enough about the conversions to the engine/flight models, etc to mess with that. (hardpoints is easy!) But.... with the lower powered engines, wouldn't that simulate the badly overhauled, worn out ex-DC-2 motors they wound up using??? Just a thought! Wrench kevin stein -
I think it would all depend on the 3d modeler, how he created the animaitons in Max, and if it was speed controled or set via an animation keystroke As for the sentiant AI, perhaps they're using one of those new dual-core Alienware machines??? Wrench kevin stein

Hawk 75 ML-KNIL (NEI)
Wrench posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: Hawk 75 ML-KNIL (NEI) File Submitter: Wrench File Submitted: 28 Sep 2007 File Category: WW2 Aircraft Hawk 75A-C7 for Royal Netherlands Air Force, Netherlands East Indies for SF/WoV/WoE, WW2 PTO installs This is a modification of Wolf257's P-36/Mohawk into the Hawk 75 export version, as used by several Allied nations. It represents aircraft from the ML-KNIL during the opening days of the War in the Pacific, in the defense of the Netherlands East Indies (Java and Sumatra, for those that don't know) This is a semi- complete aircraft mod, creating a country specific version for use in your World War 2: PTO installs ONLY!! As such, all the loadout have been adjusted to fit KLU aircraft of the time (ie: by being lazy and using the exisiting RAF bombs). I say 'semi-complete', because pursuant to Wolf's wishes, the aircraft LOD file is NOT included; you'll have to transfer it over from an exisiting P-36A/Mohawk. Everything else is included; all the inis, cockpit files, new hangar and loading screens (both available ONLY in this mod) and my damage tgas as well. I've also adjusted the operational years; they historically were all destroyed by February, 1942, but as we can't add months yet, you get the whole year (1942 that is) ==NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE THE LATEST WEAPONS PAK INSTALLED TO GET THE WW2 WEAPONS!!== Please read the enclosed readme, it has full install instructions, and other notes of interest. Happy Landings! Wrench Kevin Stein (and here you all probably thought I'd never get out of the ETO!!!! Click here to download this file -

Hawk 75A-C7, ML-KNIL for SF/WoV/WoE, WW2 PTO installs , Version 2.0 Original Releae Date: 9/24/07 ** UPDATED 1/11/08: this new update corrects the markings on the upper wings (removing them), and fixes some other small issues. This package is designed to totally REPLACE the original from 2007** This is a modification of Wolf257's P-36/Mohawk into the Hawk 75 export version, as used by several Allied nations. It represents aircraft from the ML-KNIL during the opening days of the War in the Pacific, in the defense of the Netherlands East Indies (Java and Sumatra, for those that don't know) This creates a country specific version for use in your World War 2: PTO installs ONLY!! As such, all the loadout have been adjusted to fit KLU aircraft of the time (ie: by being lazy and using the exisiting RAF bombs <wink>). Everything is included; all the inis, cockpit files, new hangar and loading screens (both available ONLY in this mod) and my damage tgas as well. The LOD file is the newer one, as used on the French Hawk 75 and the recenty released USAAC P-36A Update Pak. I've also adjusted the operational years; they historically were all destroyed by February, 1942, but as we can't add months yet, you get the whole year (1942 that is). For this update, I left the hangar screen alone, even though it has the improper upper wing marking still present. Looks a bit nicer; rest assured, the actual in-game version IS correct! = IMPORTANT: This aircraft is designed for use in SF/WoV/WoE -ONLY-, It has =NOT= been tested it in post 8/28/08 patch WoI, nor post 9/08 - 10/08 patch SF/WoV/WoE. You use it in these enviroments at YOUR own risk. = =This mod is designed for use with the Bunyap Weapons Pak of 6/06, as it contains all the needed weapons . If attempting to use this aircraft with any other weapons pak, you'll need to add ALL the WW2 era bombs, torpedoes, etc. They are NOT included in this package.= Please read the enclosed readme, it has full install instructions, and other notes of interest. Happy Landings! Wrench Kevin Stein note, 1/11/09: what with all the new data I've been assimilating lately on this region and time period, I figgured this needed an Upgrade. I left the original screenie up, as it's a nice action shot!! -
File Name: Ju-87T (KM) North Atlantic 2-tone gray Splinter camo File Submitter: Wrench File Submitted: 28 Sep 2007 File Category: WW2 Aircraft North Atlantic 2-Tone Gray Camo for KM Ju-87T Stuka Another skin for my "What If..." carrier based Ju-87T, which is modded from Pasko's original Stuka. It represents a fictional North Atlantic 2-tone Gray. Since there exists NO available templates to reskin ANY of Pasko's birds (or at least none I could find), I had to use his original splinter camo as a base for this (see the original readme for the Ju-87T). What I wound up doing is creating a multi-layer psd file for the needed skin bmps, and redrawing every single panel and rivet line. So, all credit goes to the original skin creator, whoever that might be; but... This is a NEW skin (albeit based off stock), from a NEW template, created by ME!!! And let me tell ya, re-drawing all those little buggers is a real PITA!!! Please read the readme for install instructions and perhaps some notes of interest, in particular about the unit badge decals. Happy Landings! Wrench Kevin Stein Click here to download this file

Aircraft veering across runway
Wrench replied to The_Editor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
On manual takeoff or autopilot? I've noticed it on some of the WW2 birds, on certain terrains. Someone had asked bout this a long time ago, I can't remember exactly, but it might be something with the terrain itself Kinda like the dreaded 'Driving Miss Daisy Disease', where your flightmates go wandering off across the counrtyside; you can only 'retreive' them by Alt-N to target area Wrench kevin stein -
What's the best way to kill a mig?
Wrench replied to Mannie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hell, Mannie, you're just showing off the "Israeli Lesson" as taught in the 6 Day War. Q: How to you destroy the enemy air force? A: Kill them on the ground! As to the GW GBU vs Helo kill, I thought it was an A-10? Like Sag said, I like to make the CFIT...makes them look stoopid. Wrench kevin stein *CFIT= Controled Flight Into Terrain -

A "What If..." mod for SF/WoV/WoE ETO WW2 installs (ie: SWOTL2) This is a modification of the Dev A-Teams B6N 'Jill' to a built under liscence version by Arado for the Kreigsmarine of WW2. They needed something to replace the Ju-87T Stuka's originally used on their aircraft carriers GRAF ZEPPELIN, PETER STRAUSER, and others. This is a complete aircraft, ready to unzip and fly away. There is also a new bomb rack (tandem type) for you to install, so PLEASE read the enclosed readme for full, detailed instructions. Also included is a very nice "Fictional Historical Notes" section, detailing the operational history of the Ar-296, and the fates of the KM's carriers. I think it's my best one yet! With thanks to my other Dev A-Team mates, Charles and Capun; with special thanks to Capun for making the changes in the B6N's lod to create this strike aircraft. Happy Hunting! Wrench Kevin Stein IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a PERMISSION aircraft ONLY!!! It is not to be included in any mods without express, written consent of the Dev A-Team. It is not to be shared in any other way!! Even though I, The Wrench, am a Freeware Signatory, this mod, and any other mods of DAT Procudts are NOT covered by the Freeware Treaty. Weapon effects
Wrench replied to Outlaw7's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes. It just needs flattening on certain airfields, some new and some 'moved' to their correct locations. I've almost doubled the target areas (127), and 155 objects in the types ini, many modified or new objects, including a working Silkworm battery at the Shatt al-Arab (thanks to Moonjumper!). New movements inis for CAS and Armed Recon. But, in truth, the north east quadrant needs a complete rebuild - adding the Caspian Sea shore, moving Tehran and it's associated airport closer to where it should be in real life. I say 'semi-complete', because as per Wolf's wishes, the aircraft lod is NOT included. You'll have to copy it over from one of the other FWs. This skin has new, redrawn panel and rivet lines -- to which I claim NO historical accuracy! I don't know enough about the Luftwaffe (or especially in the un-real Kreigs Marine version) markings and such; so accept them for what they are, just eye candy. You also get new Luftwaffe-style outlined aircraft number decals (by me!), and a nice KM nose badge decal as well. The camo pattern is pretty much standard RLM colors, splinter type. The other markings are all from my rather vivid imagination; as these aircraft never existed (and could probably NEVER be made into a fully navalized version), I ask that you all accept this is the spirt it engenders ... pure fun and a little exploration in the "What If..." realms of the Second World War. PLEASE read the read me for further, detailed instructions. There's also a "Fictional Historical Notes" section that might be fun to read! Good Hunting! Let me just WIP this out....
Wrench posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
A few screenies of some upcoming mods, several still in WIP phase: NEI (KL-MNIL) Hawk 75: AdA Hawk 75 (decals by Heck, skin by me -- they'll be 6 skins for this mod! - 2 are shown here) And something completely different (but still in the same vein of 'early war', Douglas DB-7, AdA: To round it off, yet another Hawk 75 Still using Heck' decals (for the numbers and rudder markings, all others are mine), and still some issues with the nose stripes. But they're being worked on, really, they are! Also, awaiting permissions from the original model maker, as there's been a small change to the lod. Any takers to mod the BoB map for the Battle of France???? Wrench kevin stein
