More ArmA 2 for me... Good mods for older stuff?
SFP1Ace replied to streakeagle's topic in Armed Assault Series
I tried to play ARMA some time ago and while the graphics were 10x better than OFP, the campaign was quite the opposite :( (I'm more of a single player guy). I also bought OFP 2 on steam and while many folks consider it !^&* I kinda liked it (only played it for couple of hours, like so many other games it awaits in a loong line of games I intend play through). Funny thing about me is that I almost never buy games when they're released. Usually I would wait a year or so till the game is fully patched, costs a fraction of release date price, and my PC hardware catches up with the recommended requirements. -
Thanks, but I read it before. It confirms the 1984 date but it's too vague. Other source mentioned 1987, and that early MIGs 29 were equipped with aa-8 and only later on with AA-11. So when was this later on? 1985,1986 or, say, 1989? Or maybe Soviets started equipping Su-27 from 1984 and MIG 29s and 23s from 1988 or later?Maybe someone's got a book or a monography on the topic? It's just this kind of knowledge that I seek, cheers.

As above, the information I was able to pull out from net (wikipedia, google, you know, usual stuff since I'm lacking any good hard cover sources) was inconsistent and scarce. Some say early '80s other late '80s etc. Cutting to the chase it's just something I need to mod NF4+ '86 campaign. I'm just trying to find out if in 1986 MiG 29s 23s and Su 27s were already carrying AA-11 instead of AA-8? Thanks in advance for all the solid intel anyone can provide!

OF...oh that brings memories...I've fiinished the main campaign several times, it was THAT good, and RESISTANCE too. Did you know that there was 3rd campaign available (as a download I think) where you took on the role of Soviet commando (I think it was called Red Hammer, but I might be wrong on this). It was half as long as the main campaign. Sorry for the OT, can't help you with mods for ARMA series, my ARMA gold is collecting dust, there's just so many other good games that occupy my time, (HL2 Orange Box, SotSE and of course SF2 series to name few ;) ). -
Well, I think the issue you're describing is called Z-fighting, and it has to do with your graphics card Z-Buffer. Anyway I've got this issue with shimmering buildings/buildings shadows as well, but it's visible only from a greater distance ALSO with stock, unmodded terrians :(. I guess it's a driver or game engine related issue and nothing can be done about it as far as I know...Turning off city building shadows (Setting shadows to HIGH) alleviates it to some degree, but the 3d building models still seem to 'flicker'. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me might chime in some info on this?

It's an ENCYCLOPEDIA!!!:yikes:But not just an ordinary one...it's ENCYKLOPEDIA TECHNIKI WOJSKOWEJ which roughly translates to Encyclopedia Of Miltiary Technology/Equipment. So what's so special about it? Well it's special to me coz last time I read it it was in my school's library about 14-15 years ago, and back then it seemed really comprehensive and detailed...In a couple of days I'll find out if my memory serves me well. Other interesting thing about it is that it's been published in 1987 by MON publishing (Polish Ministry of Defence), so it's like a semi-official government stuff. And in 1987 Poland was still communist and our Ministry of Defence was even more so . I wonder what information did we have on American/NATO equipment , jets, missiles, radars back then? How accurate was it? How much information about Soviet/Warsaw Pact equipment our Big Brother let us to be published in this book? I'm just dying to find out! So it can be a goldmine of resources for modding or just a pile of krap, I guess it can swing either way. But the best thing about it is that it cost me equivalent of 10$ postage included and it's over 800 pages thick, so in worst case scenario it can serve as an armor plate

Hey, probably it's just me being greedy. Still dreaming about Falcon 4.0 style exhausting 500+ pages brick-thick manual (will get there, eventually, I have no doubts about it ). -

I think this http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2343#p15670 should be included as well :) -

True, BUT once completed it will be so much easier than googling for knowledge, coz it's gonna be in one place, in one format. PLUS as you've noticed ALL this data is from plane's ini files therefore all the values are true as far as SF2 represented reality is concerned. I know it's a lot of work, but i've got a considerable amount of time to spend on my hands (no job atm, limited social life, u can call me a temporary nerd, LOL) so I don't mind if you don't mind :) -

That's a very useful information you got there in this guide. It could surely be included in a more comprehensive SF2 "Bible". Together if information on cockpit instruments, avionics, AND HUD symbology for EVERY stock aircraft, max lo & hi altitude speeds for Blue & Red side aircrafts, their max radar ranges, whether it's a doppler or not, type of carried weaponry (in game wepons of course) and it's min. max deployment ranges and alititudes, short take off and landing guides (like at what speeds& when to lower flaps, what speed do not exceed for given aircraft dry and loaded when landing etc.), guides for WVR & BVR combat for specific adversaries (it,s different to fight against, say, mig-17 than mig-23 ;)), modding section describing the prameters in data.ini files in detail and so on and so on. This would take a HUUUGE amount of time to put together I guess, but once completed it would serve several generations of SF2 simmers :) I for once volunteer to write some sections f.e. on aircraft, weapons & radars ranges, speeds etc. -

That would be one of the BEST things ever done for SF series. -

Hell yeah, thats what I was aiming for :). the thing is that each terrain contains 3 versions of planning map - 512x512, 1024x1024 and 2048 version. I'm pretty certain that the call in F-15C pit lod is for the lowest 512 version, so i was hoping tu adjust it but apparently it can be done only by the original pit creator :(. Or i can just supplant the 512 map version for 1024 one in terrains folder, but like I said it messes up the in game planning map a bit.
