  1. Not on it's own. In real life, it had to receive ques from another aircraft, a skyspot controller, or possibly a chain of LORAN stations (though AFAIK, only F-105s used LORAN during the Vietnam war). And I seriously don't give a shit what you do in game.
  2. Ah, sorry to burst your bubble, but to the best of my knowledge, US F-4 Phantoms did not level bomb on their own, as they were not equipped to do so (with the exception of laser-guided bombs). Some B & C-models were equipped with the "Sky Spot" system, but that was nothing more than a very accurate transponder mounted on the bombing platform. It allowed a ground-based radar system to determine the position and altitude of an aircraft so-equipped, and provided the IP and release point ques for them. I have read of F-4s using it in South Vietnam against the VC (and against the NVA during the Tet offensive). While they claimed 10-meter accuracy, most modern sources dismiss that figure as wishful thinking. Another thing; TK, the developer of this series, read the manuals on most of these aircraft, and set them up accordingly. What that means is that perhaps 5% of the time we'll catch him taking a SWAG, but mostly, his avionics settings are spot-on. More info on Sky Spot: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Skyspot
  3. Better start looking for it in the Gobi Desert

I had a friend drown when a violent microburst hit my area, and its 90 mph gusts created a 15 foot vertical wave that capsized their boat just a few miles offshore. As the boat was sinking, my friend dove into the salon to save his girlfriend, not realizing that she was already safely away from the vessel, and wearing a life vest. He never made it back out of the cabin before the boat went under. The wall of water then sped seaward at an estimated 50 MPH, damaging boats out to 40 miles offshore, and taking two additional lives. This happened in July of 1987.
  4. Better late than never.............

Funny, as I recall "Live and Let Die" getting way more air play here in the 'States than any other Bond theme before or since, followed by "Nobody does it better".
  5. This is from our local news paper's webpage. It's Hurricane Joaquin, as seen from the International Space Station, looking west towards Florida (the large illuminated land mass). Note the over-the-horizon sunlight, reflecting off of, and high-lighting the ionosphere.
  6. PFunk, There's nothing to be sorry for. You've done nothing more than to ask a perfectly valid question. Devil11, by simply being friendly, alerted us to the existence of pirated content, so he has no worries. Our original concern was that he was getting the file from an outside source, and offering it to someone, on our site (a big no no). Actually PFunk, on one hand, you are responsible for some wrong-doing. It's not an "SU-33". It's an Su-33.
  7. Chroma SDK with Music on My Computer

"ECM on! Chaff! Chaff! Chaff!" "I'm sorry Dave, but I can't do that now....."
  8. That is the Inskye pirate model in that mod. Contacting the uploader, and deleting the file.
  9. Strike Fighters 2: War For Israel V3.0 + Sandbox

Sorry, but this contains pirated content (the Inskye Su-33 was pirated from MarcFighters)
  10. PFunk the one that Devil11 is most likely talking about was made from a pirated copy of Marcelo's Su-33. The slimeballs who pirated it didn't even have the decency to change the loading screen that I had added to Marcelo's model, when they uploaded it. We banned them from CombatAce immediately afterwards. Devil11, that had better be something like FastCargo's false-pilot canard model, and not the Inskye pirated version, or you'll be risk getting banned.
  11. It's simply a matter of associating an illuminated material with the building (solid) objects. We tried this back in the SF1 days, and thought that it looked very tacky back then, so we never released it. Time has not improved on its appearance. Hint: look to the moon.
  12. Recommission battleship USS Iowa: Trump

Back during the late 50s and early 60s, when the USN was seeking funding for the first Polaris SSBNs, the CIA allegedly commissioned a study which looked into the possibility of clandestinely fitting out a fleet of old cargo ships as Polaris missile launch platforms. The idea was that they would each carry four to six missiles in silos mounted in the forward cargo compartments, and sail around conducting business (even going as far as delivering civilian cargo), until called upon to deploy their missiles. Supposedly JFK was appalled at the concept of strategic launch platforms masquerading as civilian ships, and Admiral Hyman Rickover was outraged at the possibility of losing funding for the SSBN program.
  13. One doesn't have to modify anything. Just fly during the period that the AIM-4D was available, and if it's not loaded by default (check the loadout screen to make sure), select it for yourself and your wingmen from the IRM stations pulldown. IIRC, it should be the default IRM during 1965-1967 on the D and early E models.
  14. Just this past May, I met a crewman who was on the Forrestal during that fire.
  15. News of environmental importence to CA Members...

They have always been, and always will be, under the protection of Combatace. Hell, what do you think our official site mascot is?
  16. I have tried many, if not most of them. I did not try the aircraft systems entries, which appeared right after the release of FE2. The search_light entry I tried on several ship models that had that animation defined, but it did not work, and they had to be set as guns. The helo aircraft class entry is definitely a dud, as is the spot-light system type. One should see some of the place-holder entries in the various graphics and terrain engine files...those are real heart breakers. But by all means, knock yourselves out. That's how we all learned.
  17. The majority of them are place holders, and do not have any actual actions/functions/object types associated with them. TK has done this since the beginning, and some of the original place holders from November of 2002 are still there, waiting for him to "activate" them.
  18. Movies

    X-15, with Charles Bronson
  19. Rainbow emanating from WTC site

This image was taken this afternoon, after a series of heavy rainstorms moved through the area. It shows a rainbow appearing to emanate from the site of the World Trade Center, a day before the 14th anniversary of the terror attacks there,
  20. I believe that we do have an MB MK6, MK7, and MK10, but alas no MK8.
  21. All that one really needs to do is to pen up a tailored version of Kreelin's Mi-8 FM.
  22. WW II Images

These links from the Denver Post were posted by a fellow member at another site that I frequent ( a boating website, if you must know ). There are images from both Pacific and European theaters. Some I have seen before, most are quite rare. Enjoy! Pacific Theater: http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2010/03/18/captured-blog-the-pacific-and-adjacent-theaters/#more-1547 European Theater: http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2014/06/05/color-photos-d-day-world-war-ii/7043/
  23. It's a rather complicated shader, in that it requires that the image be drawn twice; Once as a normail view, and then with the post-process perturbation effect over the first image. I do not believe that any of the "wrapper" style post-process shader add-ons (such as sweet fx) currently have the capability to introduce heat blur from a point emitter. I believe that it would take a re-writing of the game's graphics core files to allow this.
