  1. Stumbled across RadeonPro (not sure how I missed it before), which made it pretty easy to apply a custom overclock for DCS World. Went from 2.9ghz to 3.4ghz and bumped by GPU clock up to 900mhz from 800mhz, and I now get between 20-30 fps in the campaign missions (pretty stable), with some occasional dips, but very playable overall! Haven't seen anything threatening in terms of temps so far. Can't wait for EDGE to see what that does...
  2. Hmmm... Well, I guess I should have played around with DCS World a little more before I pulled the trigger on FC3. Oh well. Hopefully there will be some performance optimization at some point (sooner would be better, at least with EDGE, I hope...). In the mean time I reinstalled FC2, and, once I force some MSAA and AF through CCC, it looks pretty good. That will do for now.
  3. Nah, my laptop is fine. No spyware or clutter. 500GB HD is less than half full. I read threads like this one and get the feeling that it's not just me or my laptop: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101491 Those are the kind of FPS issues I see. Solid 30fps then I look in a certain direction or someone blows up (or something happens that I don't even see or know about) and things drop to 15. That kind of stuff. I just thought I'd ask here. I know Dave was using an Alienware laptop at one point. I was interested in how it was holding up...
  4. Are you guys seeing lower FPS than what you used to see? I made up my mind to buy FC3 based on the performance I was seeing in the SU-25T in DCS World last summer, but now with FC3 my FPS in the A-10A is kinda sucky. I've been having to dial the graphics down, with mixed/minimal results. When I bought this laptop a couple of years ago, I got lots of feedback from folks with A-10C that it would handle it no problem. I don't know if I got some bum advice or if performance has really just gotten that much worse.

SF2 Carrier and Campaign Mod Readme This mod adds a carrier to the stock SF2 campaigns, as well as places USN and some of the USMC squadrons in those campaigns on the carrier. Additionally, if you have a merged install with SF2V, SF2E, and SF2NA, you can add F-8's and A-7's to the stock campaigns and a new 1978 campaign with A-7's, F-15's, HarrierGR3's, F-14's, and A-10's as well. Requirements: SF2 and SF2V (for the carriers) are required. SF2E and SF2NA are optional but recommended. To install: 1. Drag the "campaigns" folder into your mod folder. 2. If you already have modified desert_targets.ini in your SF2/Terrains/Desert folder, skip to the next step. If you do not already have modified desert_targets.ini, extract Desert.ini and Desert_targets.ini from Desert.CAT (in the main game folder) using the SF2 .cat extractor. Create a 'Terrains' folder in your SF2 mod foler and create a 'Desert' folder inside that one. Place the extracted Desert.ini and Desert_targets.ini in that folder. 3. Add the following to the bottom of desert_targets.ini: [TargetAreaXXX] Name=Whiskey Station Position=550000,600000 Radius=5657 ActiveYear=0 Location=3 Alignment=FRIENDLY CarrierStation=TRUE Make sure 'XXX' in the [TargetAreaXXX] is the next number following the target area above where you pasted the entry. 4. Korean Air War Update to SP4 standards by malibu43 This update just organizes the ground objects into proper folders, fixes some aircraft carrier bugs, and ensure the air units in the campaigns use the right aircraft included with the install. Installation: Delete the campaigns folder and the ground objects folder in your Korean Air War install and replace them with the ones included in this zip file. You'll also have to download wrench's F4U: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=6831 Remember to back up these folders before you delete them, in case something goes wrong. 7. I finally decided to grab FC3. I was going to a few months back as soon as it was "released", but that got pushed back and my money went elsewhere. But after seeing the "The Valley" video AAR's at SHQ by Bunyap (BTW, is that the WoX "06 Weps Pack" Bunyap?) and seeing that the price might jump at initial release, I decided to grab it. Just got it installed last night but haven't played yet. Are there any good servers for casual multiplayer? PS - Holy cow. Second post since October. My how things have changed...
  8. Took a few months hiatus from flight sims, but I'm back! And my first ever LOMAC/FC A to A kill!
  9. So... a Chinese pilot landed a Soviet plane on a Soviet ship that had Chinese sailors on it?
  10. GIANTS!

    Hum baby!
  11. GIANTS!

    CHAMPS!!!
  12. I was born in the early 80's, and therefore gew up on a heavy dose of F-14's, F-18's, F-16's, A-10's etc... All I knew about the F-105 was that it was ugly. F-4's... bleh. All I knew about Vietnam was what I learned watching Flight of The Intruder. The Cold War was something boring that happened between WWII and Desert Storm... I only stumbled across the TW series because I had recently picked up F4AF and was looking for a modern-ish A-10 game/simulation (A-10 Cuba was just a "little" dated looking). LOMAC wouldn't run on my laptop, so I thought I'd give this "Wings Over Europe" game a try. I found it fun and started adding all my other "80's era" favorites. Given my affliction for the A-6 and my past experiences with virtual naval ops (F/A-18 2.0 was my first real flight sim), I thought I'd give WoV a try as well. Slowly over the next couple of years a shift took place. I ventured more and more into the world of "cold war" era aviation. Man, there was a lot of cool stuff I had never heard about. I started getting really interested in Vietnam. I read books like Thud Ridge and WTR (also re-read FoTI). It got to the point where I was interested enough in Vietnam to notice that WoV was missing a lot of stuff and it needed a big freeware mod to improve it. And of course WoE is great because it features all those Cold War jets doing what they were designed for - all out war in Europe. What!?!? There were conflicts in the mid-east during those times too? Featuring more of these jets I previously thought to be nothing more than REALLY expensive and over-sized paper weights? Cool. The Falklands mod for SF1 was a total shock to me. You're telling me the UK fought Argentina at one point? So anyway, the point of all this is that I have FC2 installed but never play it. I have F4 BMS installed but never play it. I have IL-2 1946 installed but never play it. I do have all of the SF2 titles installed and fire that up regularly (even if just to fly around using the arrow keys on my laptop). I find my self more interested in the status of the KAW mod than SF2NA or the update of the ODS mod. I few years ago it would have been exactly the opposite. Blah blah blah. Yackity yack yack... Anyway, thanks TW and Combatace for sparking my interest in an era of aviation that I otherwise would have never even noticed!
  13. I honestly don't know if I'd be interested in SF3, even if he made it...
  14. Mechwarrior Online

Never been much of a sci-fi guy, but I've always loved giant, laser-wielding robots. Some shots from a match this morning.
  15. Mechwarrior Online

Mechwarrior Online. Enters open Beta next Tuesday!
  16. Mechwarrior Online

I actually feel the opposite. I don't like the robots that look like people in fancy suits of armor. I like my robots to look like big, slow, awkward, walking tanks. The Timberwolf is my all time favorite.
  17. Announcing DCS: UH-1H Huey

This is a 3rd party addon. So the question about whether or not it fits should go to the developer, not ED.
  18. Obviously it would be a little more work for you, wrench, but I do like the idea of a sticky thread in the general discussion forum (or wherever) where the first and only post has the download link for each piece. The post could be edited each time a new piece is uploaded. That would make it very quick and easy to ensure one has everything released to date...
  19. Downloaded and played the first "mission". Pretty good for a phone game!
