Thanks JM. I'm still on the fence, but slowly falling off to the the "gonna wait for FC3" side. As much as I'd like to learn the basics of the A-10C, it's probably wishful thinking to think I'll have time to do so. I think I'm going to wait for FC3. The larger plane set and simpler avionics probably better suit my simming "needs" at this point. In the meantime, I'm going to print out the SU-25T controls from FC2 and learn the ropes with the DCS World version.

So long fellas

Word. It hadn't changed for a while and everyone was fine with it. Don't know what inspired all the changes... -
Well, I just downloaded DCS World. Flew the SU25T around a bit (using the arrow keys only, though). Everything looks really nice, although I can't tell if it looks nicer than FC2 or not. Most settings up on High and it ran great on my laptop. Then I just popped into the DCS World forum over at SHQ. Holy crap! There is a lot of stuff in the works. I mean.. A LOT! Streak - I'm really tempted to grab A-10C right now from Steam since it's only $16. But like I said, time is limited (or nonexistent) for learning (although I know Falcon pretty well, maybe some of that will transfer over?). And, I'm limited to a Saitek AV8R. That's one hat switch and 12 buttons. I have two questions for you: 1. So you're saying that A-10C is scalable enough to get either an SF2 or FC2 level of avionics difficulty? 2. Will the AV8R give me enough buttons to make it work?Otherwise, I'll just wait for FC3.

I don't like it at all !

I actually also really like the new wingmen that stick with me NOE. I'd rather see TK fix things than just revert back to how it was before. But, if its one or the other, I guess we need AI that doesn't fly into the ground. -
SF2 Realism Mod

Or what about instead of aircraft packs that spans the life of an aircraft, we did "decade packs"? A follow on pack could add red and blue aircraft (and weapons and ground objects) to get us up to ODS. And then another one to flesh out everything up through the 90's. And then finally a "5th gen" pack that takes us up to present day... just a thought. My experience in the past was that it was a pain to get one of my older WoE installs to span up to the late 80's, just because I had to piece so much stuff together and then get it all to work well. Because of that, I've since given up on it. But it might be worth given it a try again... But, yes, we are way ahead of ourselves.... -

The thing is, NF4/5 and the SF2V AGXP already have they "heavy" version covered. So it seems like we'd have two mods that do the same thing, although this newer one would probably never be as good as NF4+ (for example) so I'm not sure how much it would be used. If there's stuff that NF or the AGXP are missing, then let's add it there. -

The problem with adding the SWIP is that we'd be extending the scope of the game almost 10 years. That means we'd need all the appropriate weapons and ground objects to span the period, as well as all the additional red and blue aircraft. Essentially all the stuff from ODS plus some. I'll let Dave make the call, but my vote would be to enhance the stock planeset and time frame and leave expanding it to all the other mods that are already out there. -

HR - I mean HF, Which A-6B were you looking at? I haven't touched any A-6B loadouts in a long time. The only ones I've ever worked on would be for the Vietnam AGXP, but thosr have ptobably been worked over by eburger since I last worked on them. I have no idea what pods should be on there. And, like you said, who's taking it on a recon run anyway? Is the 'B' going in the realism mod? The problem with dedicated SEAD A/C in SF2 is that the game will assign them on SEAD missions where the primary task is taking out guns, in which case a 'B' would be useless with its ARMs. And I dont know how many people would actually fly them or notice them. For that reason, it might be better to not include SEAD variants and stick with the TW approach of adding ARMs to the other variants. Then if someone really wants to add an A-6B or F-4G they can get them from your superpack or other appropriate download. -
Thanks. I found that I still had the April 2012 weapondata.ini. The only change between the two was upping the countermeasure rejection for two of the AIM-7's; no changes to any SAM's. So no dice there. So if anyone was the data.ini for the warships, I can check those to see if anything changed with the radar abilities. If not, then it's a code change and we're at TK's mercy...
-
If anyone has the april and may versions of weapondata.ini and the data.ini files for the Kiev and other soviet warships would you mind sending them to me? Since there's no response from TK about the SAMs (but he did respond about DayZ and Kickstarter... several times...) I'm going to have a look for myself.

Here's a couple more thoughts or suggestions for this mod: 1. Dave or Crusader or whoever works on the weapons pack - Assuming TK doesn't fix the soviet naval SAMs in a patch, maybe we could tweak all them so that they are more than just for show. If TK fixes something later, we could just delete those from the weapons pack. 2. What about a collection of a few HUDDATA.ini's? These would obviously be in a separate "optional" folder in the download, but it might be cool to include a few of our favorite customized HUDDATA.ini files so that new users can quickly drop them in and try them to see which one they like. For example, all I have left on mine is my own a/c speed, heading, and alt plus a little black dot to mark my visual target. I know others have all info removed except for a red dot marking the target. I don't know, just a thought... Then again, maybe it's something that everyone customizes to his/her own taste and there's no point in including them. -

Well, now you guys have really done it. TK is talking about adding zombies to SF2! (see jonathanRL's thread linked above). Sign me up for the first copy of Angry Fighters: Zombie Apocolypse. -

I was totally just kidding around. I thought it was funny because I've been here for years and no one had every called me "Mal". Then all of a sudden Dave does it a couple times and it catches on. I guess that just speaks to what a powerful and influential person Dave is. In all seriousness, you guys can call me anything you want. Except for Shirley... -

I like that I've become 'Mal' all of a sudden. Geeze! Are you guys really too lazy to type 'malibu'? I would think the extra work to capitalize the 'M' is more than just typing the whole word starting with a lower case 'm'. Personally, I never notice things like ejection seats, but I don't have a strong opinion either way. -
Unfortunately, I don't have time for study sims anymore, otherwise I'd be all over it. But, FC3 might interest me. I've tried FC2, and honestly found that modded SF2 looks better and can provide the same plane set (of course with slightly lesser avionics). But if FC3 brings things up to DCS A-10C visuals and is linked with BS and A-10 multiplayer, it could be pretty fun! If the multiplayer is alive enough, maybe it can over come the lack of dynamic missions and campaigns... Back to SF2 for now!

SF2 Realism Mod
malibu43 replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
OK. Check this out. Step 1: Install this no matter what (works with any and all titles): Common BaseMod Folder.rar Step 2: Drag and drop these depending on which titles you have (order doesn't matter, allow to over-write): SF2 BaseMod Folder.rar SF2E BaseMod Folder.rar SF2I BaseMod Folder.rar SF2NA BaseMod Folder.rar SF2V BaseMod Folder.rar Step 3: If you have all titles, drop this guy in in addition to all of the above (again, allow to overwrite if it asks): Full Merged BaseMod Folder.rar That is 3 steps to follow. Shouldn't be too hard, even for noobs. I put soundlist.ini in the common folder, even though some of the sounds only get added depending on what title you have. I don't think having unused entries in soundlist.ini will cause any problems. This way users don't have to edit together a bunch of soundlists. I split all the F-4 loadouts up into the appropriate titles, but I was going on memory for which F-4's are in which games. If I screwed that up somewhere let me know. -

Roger. Here is all my stuff: BaseMod Folder.rar edit - Or do you want them broken down by title at this point? -

Dave, sorry if I being dense. Do you want me to re-upload my stuff all in one base mod folder and upload it as one .rar file? I had the wrong RWR sounds in my first upload (they were ones I had turned down too quiet). I'll re-upload the correct ones... once I figure out how exactly to upload them. -
Has anyone started a thread about SAMs at TW? If not, I will. I hadn't much of a chance to play since the June patch, but I thought I'd check out this SAM thing for myself this morning. Flight of 8 A-7E's up against the Keiv Battle Group. From the IP and on, my RWR was lit up and singing loudly. We flew straight and level from the IP over the battle group at ~ 2500' and maybe 450 kts. Then we just circled over the battle group trying higher and lower altitudes. I counted 32(!) SAM's in the mission log! We had one A-7 that was damaged (probably by AAA). That was it. Not a single hit. Then I tried it again, in case it was some weird fluke, but I got the same results. Then, I took and F-4E over Hanoi in 1971. I had two SA-2C's fired at me and they both missed. The third (SA-2F) nailed me. Again, just cruising straight and level. So I wonder if it's an issue with the Naval SAM's only, or if it's SAM's across the board...? My very limited test seems to indicate that the SA-2's worked as I would have expected...

It already has it. Didn't you know? You just have to beat the game on "Hardcore" difficulty. -
