  9. I've discovered through a lot of trial and error that the best way to score a hit (without your Harpoon diving for the sea) is to climb to between 2,500 and 3,000 feet, raise your nose about ten degrees and then shoot. More often than not I've gotten a kill by using this method.
  10. Been There, got the t-shirt. I know what your going through right now. I won't bore you with the details of my past health problems only to wish you a speedy recovery, raven.
  11. Anybody know what unit of speed measurement is used when viewing the waypoints on the planning map?
  12. I was thinking it might be TAS but I just wasn't sure, hence my query here. Is there an INI file I can access and edit so that the unit of speed measurement will show up next to the speed? (ie: 470 knots KTAS)

I was talking about going here for a looong time. And there was no excuse not to, since this place is practically round the corner from me. Anyway; it's Saturday and I finally walked over to take a closer look at these erstwhile beasts and take a couple of snaps...... 14. Apologies for sounding a little sharp. My wife complains about that sometimes as well! I've just tried out Desert 4 on a clean install without any problems. Got to the OPTIONS.ini file, then scroll down to the bottom. [Mods] ModsEnabled=TRUE <- - - - - - - - - make sure that it says true. The only other option I can offer is to go to the main DESERT4.ini folder and delete this line: NavalMap=TRUE. This may or may not work for you. I'm just guessing here, since you don't have SF2NA.
  15. First of all; for the life of me I can't understand why you changed the terrain name to "Desert". It was called DESERT4 for a reason, and it's because you changed the terrain name that it won't work. The mod in question was tailored for a terrain called "DESERT4". My advice would be to re-install the terrain and leave the terrain name as it is. You should have less problems then. As the old saying goes; some things are best left as they are.

  19. It's definitely a ground object issue; more than likely a third party mod or mods. I had this issue myself and eventually had to end up renaming my "groundobjects" folder, allowing the game to create a new folder, then adding the items from the old folder over to the new folder one at a time. A big time pain in the arse, I know (not to mention time consuming), but it's the only way of weeding out the offending object/ objects.
  20. I presume you're having this issue when in the cockpit. If they're on, try switching off your cockpit mirrors in the graphics options. I've got an AMD graphics card and had the same problem. Straight away I noticed a huge improvement in the framerate.
  21. Recently I've been thinking about buying a new gaming desktop as I'm sick to the gills from trying to solve a framerate issue when playing SF2. When playing the series, flying anything with a high polycount or being anywhere on any map with high AI activity (example: Hanoi) brings my framerate right down to single figures, making it pointless to continue unless I'm in the mood for a slideshow. I really don't get this as my rig should be well up to the task. Shooters like BF3/4 and the Call of Duty series are no hassle, with graphics settings on the higher scale. So before I go marching into my local PC store with a wad of cash, I thought I'd try and see if I can "streamline" the performance of my unit. These are my SF2 graphics settings (which I'd rather leave alone - there's been enough sacrifice there): These are my desktop specs: And these are my graphic card settings: I'm wide open to suggestions as to how I can improve the current situation. Switching off certain unrelated or unnecessary background programs perhaps? Or maybe give the AMD Overdrive feature a go (although I'm a little apprehensive about taking that risk!) After all, it's only about two years old and was upgraded with a new graphics card last year. I'm sure there's still a lot of life left in the desktop. Any help here would be hugely appreciated; to be honest I'm sick and tired of it and would like to streamline instead of replacing.

Please accept my sincerest sympathies Dave. At least his pain is over. I think this will be fitting:
