Part 2 Went out to bomb Vinh's runway. I wasn't sure two S-199 could carry enough payload to do the job, so i got 8. When i dropped my bomb, and waited to see if the rest of the flight could get some more hits, i managed to hit another MiG-17 and shoot an aileron off. However, he flew away, and started getting chased by two Crusaders and a Phantom that wanted to steal my kill. So here we have an F-8 crawling up on him, while another just breaks off after wasting all his ammo, since he is a dogfighter and can't hit anything if it isn't turning. Then there is a Phantom who almost shot his sidewinder into the first Crusader. Meanwhile, the Spanish pilot thinks about how his life led him to this moment "I could be flying an F-104 back home" -

So in my everlasting quest for how much BS i can get away with in Vietnam, i felt like starting a what-if campaign. IRL, Johnson asked Franco for some sort of Spanish support againt Communism in Vietnam when the war started. Franco sent a letter back, telling him that the US would loose the war because communism looks great when you are piss poor, and sent a Field Hospital, but no combat troops. So i thought "What if he pulled something ludicrous such as sending HA-1112s (Bf109s with Merlin engines, as seen in Battle of Britain) as COIN aircraft?" Lacking HA-1112s, got the stock Avia S-199. Turns out...you can outMiG the MiGs -

So I've played this game since around 2007/2008, with a couple hiatus i had to take, and i've always learned to like each aircraft for what it is. So, keeping it to stock aircraft, I first was obsessed with the F-104G, it was always barely under control, but i loved it, and getting air to air kills or simply hitting targets after flying fast and low was pretty nice. The Phantom was originally more about BVR, opportunity sidewinder shots and running away, until i got to find out how to dogfight with it. I bled Mirages dry of energy, but then i managed to get them to work and they lived up to the reputation they got with Israel. And so on with others. Then there was the F-100. I kept hating the damn thing with all my heart. I couldn't make it climb, run, turn nor anything. I tried, from time to time, but curiosity got bounced by frustration within minutes. Until i just picked it again a few weeks ago. And i got it to fly smooth. Started killing MiGs, and enjoying how it flew into them. I've played with it for a while, in Germany, Vietnam, and even Israel, just as a what if. And when i go back to other aircraft i miss it. Is there any aircraft in the game that you hated for quite a long time, until one day you just got used to it? -

Thai revenge, a raid on North Vietnam. Flew with Sidewinders and left the bombing to the other flight. Spraying a MiG with .50s until they go down feels quite rewarding. Shout out to all the mod artists that make a game this old look this beautiful -

Royal Thai Sabres Scramble as Vietnamese MiG-21 dash to strafe Nakhon Phanom Red Crown said they were 20 miles out, went right 90 deg right after take off, almost stalled They jettison tanks and bombs to outrun us. Not sure they need to. One of them didn't outrun a Sidewinder, and the other one had to go back home with a rudder shot off by a .50, but that was as good as it was gonna get -

I just edited the stock one, it made more sense that the Soviet would take a few of those to Iceland if they bothered to bring PT76s, ZSUs and all sorts of not so dangerous KPVs and ZU23s for air defence. Over Germany, on the other hand, they are really daunting. Since i have a thing for flying with underdog-obsolescent aircraft in each campaign, i picked the F-4C, in my first mission to strike a warehouse i barely avoid MiG-23s and just as i pop up and dive to drop the bombs i get nailed by an SA-8, so i moved to the regular phantoms, but still had it pretty hard. -

Just had to pause, because for a moment this looked like pretty good framing. Looking left from an F-106, over Haiphong, at the MiG-17s my wingman and i had just shot down with AIM-4Fs durign a sweep, while B-57s hit the docks. I wish i paused it just a couple of frames earlier when the bombs were going off in the background. -
You could say that baby was...airborn. Ok, i'll go back to bed

I have SA-8s set as mobile_AAA instead of SAMs as they appear more often. Let's say my Phantom campaigns in 1979 are brief. USN Phantoms do well over Iceland though. -

True Story I definitely didn't just make up In 1972 Lt Belenko was sent in a secret asignment to Vietnam to try the MiG-25 against the USAF B-52s. Turns out the targets had enough energy powering the ECMs to light up Hanoi Managed to get one, somehow. Wondering who was Nixon so pissed with to send that amount of though love. After getting assigned a mission so full of BS, Lt Belenko started to think about defecting. The rest is History EDIT: Grammar -
I assume many of us already know that channel, but i just found him and it has been awesome so far. Must have been a hell of an instructor while in service. https://www.youtube.com/user/spiritofattack

Looks like it could be an issue with the pylons, they should be USN and NATO compatible from what i recall -

I beefed up the US side to help with it, but even with two CAGs it gets to the point that Phantoms have to drop Walleyes because the Corsairs are depleted. -

Sorry for the late reply, i was thinking of trying it later, have you noticed if the TID still shows contacts from the AEWs? -
I agree, i feel like F-15E squadrons instead of, say F-16s would be better if it wasn't for the cost, which is the biggest factor in basically everything. However, the F-22 is the kind of expensive thing you need to keep an edge. Also, weren't F-22s dropping JDAMs in Syria?

I can't help but feel sad at this. I'm glad the F-15 is upgraded and gets used to its full potential, but ever since the production lines were shut down, everybody and their grandma knew there weren't nearly enough Raptors

In case you are interested, i combined the data of the Essex here with Kjakker's update that made her cannon shoot. I still can't get, either with Kjakker's mod alone or mixing both inis to have the forward guns to fire, but hey, two out of four are better than none SCB-125_DATA.INI -
