The warden might want to burn him so as to go home early

Those about the IDFAF are my favourite Dogfights episodes, both of them, gotta love the Mirage. Also, Ran Ronen and Giora Epstein are so cool it is a show just to watch them talking, pretty much like Robin Olds was. I could use some of the lessons, specially in the F-14 ACM video. While i feel confortable with, say, Mirages and Phantoms, i still suck at Tomcats and Crusaders

FLYING OVER "BRAVEHEART"...

You could also use the Mission Editor to add ground objects like tanks, APCs, SPAAGs, mobile SAMs and everything, but if too overloaded, you might have trouble with FPS -
Sorry to know Dave, don´t spare hugs on Sheila and the girls, let´s hope at least he gets a good death

SF as a COIN sim?

I think SF2 fits Dave's concept of coin. Get a few units to show up on radar, drop a nuke from 40k feet, move to next target area -
What is DLC #28 ?
macelena replied to Otto's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
It is a nice addition, but maybe mostly for eye candy. Alkali missiles are most often just rockets, and everytime i tried to get them to work i made only one out of the four to home on, after wich any aircraft just pitches away a little bit, beating the guidance. I put them on the ME to intercept me more times than i remember, and only once did they get me, once i almost stalled a F-105D after getting too shaky with the stick. I bet i´m the only guy here with the dubious honor of having been shot down by a Su-9 in the sim. Now that i think about it i will try to fly just straight to see how the parameters work, because right now, i guess there must be something i´m doing wrong. -

Are they planning on getting some DF-21s and use that for target practice? -
SF as a COIN sim?
macelena replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I think this particular sim is slightly unappropiate for COIN missions, while with the proper modding it may be quite cool, the way the CAS missions are set up is not specially close to the level of, in example, air superiority combat. The way ground objects work, in particular infantry squads acting as tanks, and the lack of communications or FAC calling fire missions, the way the own missions are meant to be scripted an so on. Probably, i would like a multiplayer shoot'em up in the way it portrays the way the air units operate with the ground forces for that matter. Loved my old Battlefield Vietnam, but on the other hand, they wouldn´t be as close to the realism of a flight sim. If there was something like DCS made specifically for Vietnam, it would be the best possible solution. -
Last night, an Spanish Air Force SAR Super Puma Helicopter went down over sea during an exercise after a catastrophic electrical malfunction while rehearsing a recovery. The crew of 5 were veterans, having deployed together in Afghanistan as part of HELISAF, an Spanish Air Force detachment for MEDEVAC and CSAR. One of the pararescuemen was hanging from the hoist when the lights went off and the bird went down, and survived by releasing the cable, falling to the sea apart from the crash. Once recovered, he took part in the search of his crewmates the following 24 hours, when the helicopter wreckage was located and the crew pronounced dead. All those at risk of being lost in the sea can be glad they have men like these looking after them

I think those guys were customarily greeted with a salvo of photon torpedoes when the cloaks of their birds of prey went down before an attack

That´s not the kind of plane you drop overboard when you don´t have space to spare, is it?

New scenarios with stock aircraft
macelena posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
As my PC doesn´t work good with mods, i`ve got to make do with TW made stock, wich is cool if you have a fair amount of DLCs and stuff to go with. In fact, even with stock resources only i´ve learnt you can spice up the game quite a bit. The best example i could set up was an expanded Iceland campaign, available in the downloads section, gotta love flying the "underdog" Phantom in missions intended for a Tomcat. But there are also quite a few alternate scenarios i could probably mention: ISRAEL First of all, i love fighting against the IDF. Not that i´m anti-Israel nor anything, but it is quite challenging to engage them. Specially, the IDFAF of 1982 is the meanest killing machine to face, and flying for the Syrian side is a rush, even if short...you don´t last too long. Omani Hunters and Iranian Tomcats, while requiring a severe suspension of disbelief, are great in that matter. Playing the USN or the French Navy over Lebanon is also something i was working on not too long ago. Some of those scenarios include an Alpha Strike in 1967 against Hatzor Air Base by the USN as a reprisal for the attack on USS Liberty. You have both of the arguably best nations engaged. Fighting Phantoms or intercepting Skyhawks and Skyraiders as an Israeli pilot or the opposite is quite fun. Another way to face the IDFAF in that era is to fly Jordanian F-104As. Historically speaking, they were withdrawn to Turkey to prevent their loss, but it is a great, not to far fetched what if. Campaign is hard, but still, the overmodded stock Starfighter is a Mirage killer. It turns epic any time i play it. VIETNAM Another Starfighter scenario often overlooked is their real life participation in Rolling Thunder. Historically, they weren´t credited with any kills, but they are considered to have been so much dreaded that VPAF didn´t want to risk aircraft and pilots engaging them. It is the USAF Crusader equivalent, again the 3W FM being too good compared to real-life as far as i know. Being a Mirage lover, i couldn´t help but try the same with Aussie Mirages in the same role. They had RAAF Canberras there already, didn´t they?. Much more challlenging than zippers, given their energy-bleeding wing, but i love the gun system, along with the possibility of dealing a Matra R.530 faceshot when flying escort missions, as they keep flying straight at you. However, it is kind of SAM-fodder up North, so handle with care. What about your experiences?
