Egyptian Air Force 1973
macelena posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
As i received a brand new, shiny and ass-kicking joystick from my GF this Christmas, i decided to start a new Yom Kippur War campaign flying Neshers. After a few missions, i started missing something: MiG-17s. One of the most annoying things to fly against, and after several missions, i had engaged several kinds of MiG-21s, Su-7s and Il-28s, and yet not a single Fresco. I checked the Map (thanks virtual Mossad for a great intel job on the enemy orbat) and found out there was just a Syrian MiG-17 Sqn near the Golan heights. There where Argelian, Lybian and Iraqi air forces, however. I think there were still plenty of those in service, one of the first images that comes to my mind of that war is a photo of Egyptian Frescos flying low across the Canal. Also, despite i have the AI pack with the MiG-19 from Egypt, 67 vintage (Atoll armed) the only Egyptian Farmer Sqn is equipped with the standard model. Should i edit the stock campaign to add more squadrons of those types or do what, historically speaking? -
Egyptian Air Force 1973

Thanks Jeanba, it would be great. Paulo, The Algerian MiG-21s i encountered were MFs, pretty much the best in the campaign. About Egyptian Frescos, i had a source, rather unaccurate, that claimed they had 200 of them, as many as Fishbeds. What i meant was not that Algeria or Lybia had Frescos, but that while the MiG-17s had not been represented, their many times forgotten contribution to the Arab forces is. Indeed, i would love to revamp the Israel campaigns within the limit of the stock resources, maybe preparing them for taking DLC aircraft if appropiate and available to the player. Also, sometime ago i intended to make a campaign along these lines for the USN air operations over Lebanon in 1983, while the French contribution would take to use some mods at least -
Sea Control Ships: your thoughts...
macelena replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
I think AD meant Air Defense. I think we should define the concept we are trying to implement, is it about the Sea Control Ship, (We used a WW2 CVL in that role, but Amphibious Helicarriers could do, as well as an specifically designed ship) or finding a new kind of CVE equivalent for WW3? Because if the later, the Essex CVS ships could have made the job if put back to service...if available. Finding a proper air wing could have been achieved, but it would have meant Crusaders, unless there was a program like that of the Iowa class, including the mentioned flight deck conversion, wich anyways could have been troublesome for Phantoms, and if anything, would have required F-4B/Ns like the Midway class carriers. -

What is sadder than him dying (i think he lived long and sure had a good life) is that we know that, unless shooting down an ICBM with a sling, we will never be this cool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjblmFIa8j0 -

If we still had MP for TW Games, Stary and JRL would already be flooding FB with screenies of dogfights among Gripens and Polish F-16s, all while cursing each other with references to Carl Gustav and the Winged Hussars. Indeed, if they aren´t already doing it must be because of an epic hangover.

Tanks?

I don´t know, but the Argentines did it years ago. Haha, Strike Fighter Combined Arms. They even had the Llama Commandos -
As a side note on the South American air forces new procurement aircraft, the deal for our Air force to sell the Mirage F1s is down. apparently due to French/Dassault´s pressure to sell their own Mirage, either F1 or 2000. They are getting Kfir Block60, not too bad IMHO. Also, Peru has shown interest in taking some of our earlier batch EF2000 as we replace them with later models, but i don´t think we are sparing any Typhoon nowadays.

Was it really that bad or is it just me? I don´t know if the FM is wrong or the use of keyboard as a controller or i´m that dumb, but i don´t think i have any other stock TW aircraft in wich i ever felt so helpless...except for Su-9, maybe. I feel out-performed by MiG-15s and out-maneuvered by MiG-21s. While i have been using a keyboard instead of a stick for a while and that doesn´t help controlling pitch, i have nothing like that issue in any other aircraft. The way it bleeds speed while turning like a slug is weird, and i wonder if there ever was a less stable platform. If it was really like that, John Boyd must have been something just short of a Hun-riding Messiah. I heard about the Sabre Dance, but never about it being that bad in air to air combat as i´ve been doing with it.Perhaps if stock F-104s are FMd much better than in RL, it was the opposite for the Super Sabre. Any of you feel the same?

4 missions in a campaign? That´s better than i´ve ever got since i started back in 2007. I´m the Sim World´s Largest Distribuitor of Phantom Parts. -
SF2 F-100
macelena replied to macelena's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Indeed, one of the issues is that, since i lack a stick, i play with the keyboard, and that doesn´t allow a sensitive pitch control. I wish i could turn less abruptly, i hadn´t flown much with the Super Sabre and a stick since SFP1. Something like that happens with Mirages. About the wingmen in distress idea, i try it as much as i can since Microsoft CFS2 with Wildcats vs Zeros. In this case i think that the best part is that the enemy needs to fly as slow and at the same height of their target, and loosing their initiative to adjust to the movements of our wingman, giving notice of their moves earlier. It is indeed a must do with Huns. Coincidentally, i did try to this very evening, when two MiG-21s went after my Nº3. He was too far and they were about to gun him down, so i tried with a sidewinder. If there were two MiGs on AB, and a Hun perpendicular to the missile path, and further away both in range and angle from it than both MiGs, guess wich one of the three got the Jackpot. Hint...screw Murphy
