I allways felt he was a douche, only that Red Storm Rising was great. Not as literature, but as an essay of 1980s conventional warfare, wich anyway was more of a merit of whoever advised him. I had a good time reading an article by another douche on him "Tom Clancy is not one of ours" by Gary Brecher, the War Nerd.

Besides the real need of Raptors, and the issue of bragging about cool stuff, well, the US paid for them already, why not?

Happy April 1st! -
Ok, there are many reasons so as to why to send the Raptors. But in the end is like the space race, a dick measuring contest. They send the raptors because they can. Or did the apollo missions bring something from the moon (besides technology) anything beside letting the russians know how they could do amazing stuff? Murika, F yeah!

Republic F-84FE (C-5) Dardo "Dart"
macelena replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
You could use the new cross,i think wrench remade them for the Sabre. Also, the camo could have it on a portion of the rudder painted white, like other camo schemes. -
F-15s may be enough, but F-22s would do better. Specially if they have some S-300 or something like that. If the kind of gangnam-banzai-style attack the North Koreans would do, Raptors could be quite needed.

What R Ur ROE?
macelena replied to TeargasHorse's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Indeed. The only way i have to ensure a successful attack on the soviet fleet with Krestas and Kynda cruisers in 1979 is combining a Corsair SEAD Sqn attacking at the same time as an Intruder harpoon attack, with another Corsair Sqn with walleyes to clean it up. Well, an enemy battlegroup is worth an Alpha Strike, isn´t it? -
I got the template for a new Tom Clancy novel. The chinese are pissed because the US won´t let them buy more debt. So they decide to get the US in a proxy attrition war or something to force them to ease their loans or some economical trick. The NK regime staff, wich is starting to realize their situation is not that comfortable, is contacted to cause a mess in exchange for some way out. So they pressure Kim, wich still doesn´t really have a grip on the command stick, to look scary. After an escalation, NK, covered after a massive cyberattack, shells Seoul massively, and launches a Tet like offensive. I´ll put nukes out of the scheme for now. Now seriously, with some luck, it will all be bad korean screaming over the DMZ

A-7P New DLC
macelena replied to paulopanz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Apparently, those were early model USN Corsairs reengined and with advanced avionics (read, CCIP). Don´t know about ECM or decoys (its absence being the main flaw in A-7Hs) but i guess they had some. About Aussie DLCs, i liked them. You can put them on SEA. After all, Canberra Mk20s were really there. Mirages over Vietnam is a really cool thing. In example, i use them more than i would with Japanese Phantoms or Swiss Hunters. USAF/NATO F-16s should be reserved, just like regular MirageIIIEs, for EXP3. Keep up the hope. Otherwise, it might be closer to just a non-stock derivated Mirage F1 DLC. But if DLCs are made in a way wich brings short money (despite i like A-7P, i reckon that it might not attract interest for a crap load of sales) it is hard to see how is the PC series are going to be profitable. But i´m not going to tell TW how to make his business. If i was him and PC was not profitable as he already said, i would have already moved to the mobile market. Lame, but brings money home. I´m glad there is still some PC activity, but i wouldn´t expect a wide DLC offer like we had the last year. EDIT: I mean, don´t tell me this wouldn´t sell, it might be just an edit to skin and avionics, you don´t even need to make it carrierborne capable for it to be fun. -
A-7P New DLC
macelena replied to paulopanz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Yep, of course i know about your Matador and the USMC Harrier, i was even gonna ask you about it for something not too long ago, it is just a matter of....why don´t they make them? It seems easy money. At least the USMC Harrier would get a lot of DLs, specially with a snow camo for Iceland. I don´t think any DLC would be needed if using mods, but if TW is making them, it would make much more sense to me something like an AV-8A. Just to troll you, remember the Skyhawks :D About Portuguese A-7s, i guess it is all about some kind of reserve for Germany. Just as some other DLCs, there is little room for it in the current stock environments. Also, a few fixes on F-4Ns would be great. Slotted stabs, skins, maybe updated RWRs, et cetera -
A-7P New DLC
macelena replied to paulopanz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
while i like both A-7 DLCs, and had an special itch for the A-7P, i wonder how no other DLCs, wich would have been more succesful and just as easy to make (apparently) were made. Specially an USMC AV-8A. It would do great along with an F-4J 74 in an NA expansion, but since we don´t even know if EXP3 is coming out... And yes, i would love an Spanish Harrier too. And an Spanish Phantom. And after EXP3 Spanish MirageIII and F1. I would love a Hun skinpack wich RDAF and AdA camo. I would love anything. Just bring it. But if i was TK and mobile market was profitable, while PC was not, hell, i wouldn´t have even made this DLC. Btw, does anybody know it the A-7P skins are just like the A-7H? the pic in the store looks like wraparound -
I would tell only Ronald Emmerich, Michael Bay and Leonard Nimoy so they come up with an ubercool plan wich ultimately will come down to nuke the neutron star in some weird way. I mean, it is gonna be just as effective as anything else. Or wait for the cutting-edge state of the art I-Ark, with lots of lens flare, hipster apps, underpowered engines, radiation and fluid leaks, cavitating parts, lowest bider rivets, spiralling costs to pay contractor´s last wishes, et cetera.

I would say it is more bullcrap, but it may get too violent. I don´t think anybody is expecting to get anything. Allies don´t want a war at all, and the NK mafiaknows all they would get is their asses pounded. I mean, there are precedents of dumber decisions, so i could be wrong, but i think this is a foul. If there was no more war in any of the multiple incidents before that, i don´t think there is gonna be one right now. Btw, any chance of another proxy cyber attack on the SK, Japan and the US, NK leaders bought by the chinese to get the US and their allies in the region into another attrition bush war so they can keep buying US debt? Just asking

SF2NA Super Pack
macelena replied to Viggen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
That doesn´t seem to be the main consideration. I guess it was the cost to keep those oldies operational along with the lack of capabilities compared to more modern ships. Maybe if they had been converted the way some cruisers were to carry SAMs or some proposals such as SPY radars and VLS, wich were considered unpractical, could have made them more useful assets. But having a ship whose main advantage is you can let the enemy shoot at you and a limited range gunnery platform is not worth the opportunity cost of crew and money. -

Editing night missions?
macelena replied to ScottyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I suggest playing them but without landing. Popping out the VPAF with sparrows, bright dots in the night sky, sams, the tracers of the B-52s you escort when MiG-17PF get on their tails...priceless. I just did an strike mission with VF-51 in Linebacker 2, and it was great to dominate the Farmers for a change- 2 replies

I´m leaving from town a few days, and my girlfriend says that she wants a gun to shoot me if i mess with other chicks. I take Tommy Lee Jones advice from US Marshalls and told her to get a Glock "They come in different sizes and colours, and i heard they work great and are easy to use" so her answer is "Cool, i want one in pink with Hello Kitty" I can´t help but posting it on FB, and guess the feedback my brotherly friends provide...posting some examples of posts and messages Gotta love having friends

Anyone know why real world F-16 aircraft don’t make use of a dual missile launcher for the AIM-120 etc?
macelena replied to dtmdragon's topic in Military and General Aviation
It may be possible, but not advisable. If i recall correctly, Spanish F-18s are wired to use AMRAAMs from the wingtip rails, however, they only carry IRIS-T, or Sidewinders before that. Well, once they carried Python 5 because the Israelis wanted to test their integration in our test-experimental unit...i guess the only reason for that was that they wanted to sell them to us or something -
There are many of us with several titles, in fact, look at the success of mods intended for full-5-merged installs. This gives quite an amount of stock resources to cross-share between scenarios and campaigns to spice it up a little bit, beyond what TW already does. I´ll begin with Iceland. By the NATO side One of the first things i did was using SF2Vs CVA-63 model to add another carrier along with a full CVW identical to the one used: USS America and CVW-11, wich was relatively close to the AO in real life when the war was meant to begin. It is a bit unbalancing, but hey, Iceland is almost overrun and there are plenty of Vampyres laying around. Most use for variety, indeed. Could anybody tell what was America BG composed of in his 79 cruise? Another aspect was bringing more Phantoms to the area. If you have SF2E, you don´t only have USAF 57th FIS flyable at Keflavik, but you will also get RAF Phantoms as a reinforcement in the default campaign (FG1 if you have the DLC, FGR2 if you don´t but have SF2E). Besides this, wich other Phantom units could/should be brought to bear (Without debilitating the already messed up scenario in Germany) to join the fighting? By the USN, with all the naval Phantoms included in SF2, SF2V, and augmented in DLCs by the skinpack and F-4N, there are a few to choose from. Embarked, there were Phantoms in the Forrestals, of the wich we lack model...and since they were deployed elsewhere, and the war, i suggest leaving that out. However, what about some USN/ USMC Phantom detachments to either the carriers or NAS Keflavik? Anybody got info on wich units could have been deployed this way? The USAF could have some ANG Phantom unit, maybe not in Keflavik (by now maybe a bit overcrowded) but perhaps on off map bases escorting...the B-52Ds that come with SF2V!! I remember an article from about 1982-3 in a magazine about B-52Ds used as conventional bombers from the UK against targets in Germany...those would have been great to hammer soviet airfields and almost unopposed soviet forces in Iceland, either from Thule or the UK, wouldn´t they? There are many more possibilities, but i would say those mentioned are the most notabel By the Soviet side: Other than the Vampyre incercepts or the Alpha Strikes against the Soviet groups, the campaign gets kind of unchallenging by the lack of enemy SAMs on the ground. While it is doubtful that an integrated air defence network could have been deployed so fast, including SA-6s and the like, i thought it could be a great addition...and quite logical measure, that the Russians have some SA-8s airborne to the island for defending the airfields. It keeps the operations interesting as MiGs alone may be not enough opposition, so i changed their role from MOBILE_SAM to MOBILE_AAA...feels much better Any further ideas?

Upgrading stock campaigns: Northern Sabre...any other ideas?
macelena replied to macelena's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
It is only a folder bunch of ini and txt files...i´m thinking on making a mission set with the mission editor, however, as there are a few scenarios wich could be worth a try NorthernSabrePlus.7z -
While moving boxes around at home, i happily found my old Pentium 133 desktop PC from around fifteen years ago. I couldn´t resist, and plugged it back...what a heavy piece of junk to move upstairs...and it was just the way i left it. Talk about Tron. I still had a campaign in Sierra´s "Fast Attack" 688 sub simulator, stuck on the mission i was playing the 11th of September of 2001 when i heard something was going wrong in NY. I still had my flight sims, not as old as the Strike Eagle series (my first sim on my first PC) but some classics such as the then already platinum "Black Knight", in the wich i couldn´t talk about lack of planes, as it was just USMC F-18 vs MiG-29 (Graphics were so bad, there weren´t any roundels, so i could imagine it was the Spanish Air Force Hornets over the Balkans) Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator, (wich was quite more modern and allowed me to play all Battle of Britain as if i had Robert Shaw teasing me on my wing) ...and the fabulous Novalogic trio, F-22 "Contact Fantans, requesting permission to engage...We´re gonna finish what we started" , F-16 and MiG-29 ...not willing to bash anybody, but those 3D loadout screens were awesome, and i was crazy about the perversion of flying the MiG, the ultimate bad guy, back then, it was like going Klingon. And that menu music. For a while i remembered how i was at 8 years...well, not that i´m any different at 23 deep down. I don´t know folks, do you use to experience such Total Recalls often? Just saying because it doesn´t get any better. I even loved the aircraft looking like cardboard models.

I uploaded a first version. I would like to find a way to add more soviet opposition for balance and help a couple of issues, but so far it is not bad -
Northern Sabre Plus (Expanded Iceland Campaign)
macelena posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
File Name: Northern Sabre Plus (Expanded Iceland Campaign) File Submitter: macelena File Submitted: 17 March 2013 File Category: SF2 Series Add On Missions and Campaigns Operation Northern Sabre Plus This is intended as an expanded campaign using resources from other TW games merged. For this campaign to work, a merged install with SF2:Vietnam is required, but as usual, a full-5 merged install is quite advisable. The campaign includes another US carrier, USS America, employing CVA-63 model. The escort for USS America is entirely fictional, and if anybody can provide some information on the real composition of its surface combat ships for her 1979 cruise, please, tell me. Most aircraft added are Phantoms. VMFA-333 flew the J type and used to be attached to CVW-8, so much that AJ is the tailcode it sports in stock installs, and it keeps a detachment embarked aboard USS Nimitz. VMFA-115 was actually deployed to NAS Keflavik during September 1979, so it was a no brainier. VF-201 was a USNR squadron stationed in NAS Dallas, and it has been added to USS America as a way to add more Phantoms, just in case. The campaign is made so it will display Daddyairplanes´s F-4J_74 or ThirdWires F-4N DLC, but if you don´t have them, it will revert to F-4Js and F-4Bs (remember i told you this required SF2V) I also included an USMC Skyhawk Squadron in Keflavik, wich will take dmtldragon´s A-4M, or alternatively, A-4F_74 from SF2. The stock campaign also included RAF Phantoms in case you had SF2E or F-4K DLC, however i overwrote those squadrons instead of making them flyable, i just guess they would be busy in Europe or guarding UK air space to get into a mess wich the USN and USMC are handling already Most of the work was Tannethal´s, who figured out how to make two different CVBGs work fine, and had the idea of the Soviet reinforcement convoy, a lot of credit goes to him. Also thanks to daddyairplanes, Viggen and all others wich contributed providing info and advise. I suggest using the HFD version of Iceland for keeping FPS low, and modified SA-8s for airfield coverage. I just did it by changing their role from MOBILE_SAM to MOBILE_AAA, but it may be better to use two different copies (one model of each variant in each role). If anything goes wrong, it must be my fault for messing around with some entries, please tell me so i can solve it. Click here to download this file
