Libya against Egypt Scenarios
macelena replied to allenjb42's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
About the egyptian ground objects, i think that apart from all the russian material, they got, at approximately the same time as the Phantoms, M-60s, from 1979 and onwards , and from the same era, M-109s, M-110s and M-113s. They also have land based Vulcan on M-113 (M-163) AAA, but i don´t know when did they get them. -
Felicidades Luis!!

Which SF2 game is the best?
macelena replied to guyran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Althought i prefer the historical ones (vietnam and israel): I haven´t played SF2I, and i wish i had. Arab-Israeli wars are quite balanced and the variety of situations, missions and weapons systems found make it worthy, i hope i get it eventually SF2V has many limitations in its timeframe (15 years) and the variety of aircraft you can put inside, also the fact of never having the chance to play air defence against red air, but an excellent point are carrier ops. I guess that I don´t fancy the over-fictionalized in SF2 Paran Dhimar, despite i got SFP1 and it allows you to do whatever you want, with the aircraft you wish and whatever the timeframe. My vote goes to SF2E, because of the so wide beam of years covered (the 46 best years in military aviation advancement!), the lots of materiel included (NF4+ made it a totally different game) and to a less extent, the "red dawn" like feeling of an hypotetical modern war on our western, first world, the way it was expected to be and never happened -
when i saw the gun i was surprised it even had a laser pointer. The wikipedia article says that the Coyote kill took place in february wiki on the gun

I still feel wierd about hitting a female. However, i understand anybody defending itself regardless of gender. It may seem strange, leave a bad feeling, but it is actually logical. I think that it is something wich should remain at discrection given the circunstances of the assault. Ie. Not too long ago i had a physical misunderstanding with a guy, and his girl slapped me at will after the argument was somekind of ended. I couldn´t reply, anyway she weighted a half what i do and caused no harm but a few scratches and she had reasons to be mad at me. I din´t feel like it was right to reply in a violent way, but if she used any kind of improvised weapon, it would have been right Taking it to the legal aspect. In Spain, law punishes more severely a man who strikes her partner than the opposite event, however, this assaults could be covered by the "abuse of superiority" if the male has some dominance over the woman, either physically or mentally. So far this law is, without any need or use, inconstitutional.

F-8 Crusader vs MiG-17 in Vietnam
macelena replied to streakeagle's topic in Military and General Aviation
I miss something in the thread, i don´t know if you agree with me, but the fact is that i don´t think that the USN was thinking solely on the tactical engagements over SEA. There should be, of course, some adaptations to the environment. However the role of fleet defender was still to be considered seriously by the US navy. I heard of several occasions in wich MiG-17 or An-2 flew into battle groups in the gulf of Tonkin, trying the trick of bedcheck charlie but by charlie itself, being intercepted and downed by Phantoms and their frikkin weapons system, quite superior IMHO to that of the Crusader. If a single rocket misfired could cause the devastation in the Forrestal, imagine what a rocket pod salvo could do on a deck filled with aircraft, or a kamikaze like attack (i think they got the guts to). A carrier wing taken out of action with the lives of hundreds of sailors and pilots, 70.000 ship wich with some luck will stay only months in shipyards. So i guess that the fleet defender role was to be considered seriously. Coming back to the tactical scenario, fighting for air superiority, given that most fighters the Crusader met were Frescos, they found themselves, anyway, out-turned. Talking about the thirdwire sims, i fly almost the same way (energy, vertical, speed, attack on targets of opportunity instead of engaging in duels) against frescos in a Crusader as in a Phantom, but i have less missiles on the Crusader, and i´m too lazy for paying lots of gunkills if its not a Sabre. Finally, about the difference about the F-4E and the F-4J, i didn´t see much difference in the ini numbers, it might be my mood, but on the same age (1972) the F-4J seems more accurate to hit their targets in BVR. I could try a research based on statistics, but i think it is rare for the Juliet to miss an Sparrow (E2 version) shot if properly took into parameters -
Mmm... Leopard, eh?

I know it is not quite gallant to say that about a suspected lady, but....BURN IT UP

F-105 air superiority fighter variant.
macelena replied to KJakker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Talking about the F-5E, i think that South Vietnam used them once the US withdrew, proving to be a good fighter. It was quite better than the MiG-21 as VPAF could find out when captured and used some examples, and probably better than any other light fighter in that time such as Mirage III or F-104s, by its polivalence , ease to mantain and air combat capabilities. However, 1972 is a bit late, a plane like that would have served quite well lets say five years before, and if you are talking about an excellent weapons system and range it is not what you are looking after. Anyway, i don´t think that it was the lack of good fighters what screwed the things on SEA for the South and their allies. -
Happy birthday man!! Can we expect a wild party all over SoCal?
