Stock WOV Rolling Thunder campaign
macelena replied to Slant6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There is something i find useful about the AIM-4D against Frescos, wich is a range slightly superior to that of the sidewinder, wich allows you to fire from 6 o´clock at a MiG-17 slightly out of visual range if you stalk them. That would be at 4 miles, not much less (Thats WVR, isn´t it?), while the MiG isn´t aware of you and flies straight, you have a narrow window to get into weapons parameters while unnoticed. I tried that with F-101Bs, and worked out, however, it was hard, it took a good interception course to get into weapons parameters without letting them know you are there, and have an eye on airspeed, but that works on AIM-4Ds. Anyway, in the event they notice i´m there, i allways keep my drops on, so i can fly longer than them, as by no way i´m entering dogfight with falcons against MiG-17s, and kill them as they break when they get "Bingo". However, that might result in loosing your wingman if decides to engage on his own. Mine fortunately follows me unless i order him otherwise. As i said, that was with F-101Bs in a what if scenario, but i guess it should work even better for Phantoms. -

Flags of Our Fathers / Letter from Iwo Jima...
macelena replied to Slartibartfast's topic in The Pub
Also I do prefer "Letters from Iwo Jima". This one focuses in the battle, while Flags of our Fathers is about the crap in the home front. I noticed that we all say, when hit deep by a war film "better than SPR", including myself. You know, i think that neither "The Hurt Locker" (the one wich hit me) nor the Iwo Jima twins are much behind SPR, however Saving Private Ryan is still the reference. Thinking about it, if Eastwood had cut off the home scenes of "Flags" and shortened "Letters", he could have got a single massive, überfilm about the battle from both sides. It wouldnñt have followed the novel, and probably overlooked some points, but that might have been a masterpiece if done well. -
Need more help...

To summarise: It is better to get Battlefield Vietnam when it comes to helos. Not as many as you might wish, but the flight engine is better. On thirdwire series, helos fly like slow props. -
You´re wrong. They got them after the withdrawal of US troops in 1973, they were the first combat user and it was the best fighter South Vietnam had. Were captured by the communist, employed i war by the VPAF and some were still flying not too long ago

I was about to join DiDs with a campaign in 1968, with Maine ANG "MAINEiacs" Voodoos, but when chasing a Blinder i was so mad when i missed all four Falcons that i rammed it, so i´m out of this by now. I don´t recommend you to ram anything in DiD. -

Northrop and EADS retreat from USAF tanker
macelena replied to Gepard's topic in Military and General Aviation
It happens everywhere. In example: About the Helos, while our army wanted the AH-64 and UH-60, we ordered the Tiger and Cougar. And when the Navy wanted latest variant SeaHawks for utility and the Air Force Super Cougars for CSAR/MEDEVAC, they both got the NH90s the Army ordered...to replace the Cougar. All for european partnership. In the early 60s, our Air Force was about to buy Mirage IIIC. We got F-104G. Finally, in 1970, Mirage IIIE were delivered -

I strongly recommend you to. I think that, as war film, it could be even better than Saving Private Ryan, althought might not have the same pop impact. Compared to Avatar, I enjoyed Avatar, but this isn´t worth an Oscar beside something like the Hurt Locker. This film is on this kind of war films wich are to the standard war films like what the "psicological terror" was to the terror movies. I mean, films like Saving Private Ryan, Waltz with Bashir, as opposed to Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down or the last Rambo film. I come to enjoy more the anti-war films than the "all-glorious" ones, those which don´t seem to have an ending, nor a morale. About Inglorious Basterds, it something totally different. Not worth so much attention indeed.
