  4. View File [Fictional] Republic Aviation F-84J Thunderstreak Republic F-84J Thunderstreak for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:EUROPE This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-84F to give a fictional F-84J Thunderstreak of the Finnish Ilmavoimat (Finnish Air Force) with markings for Fighter Squadron 11 and Fighter Squadron 31. BACKSTORY With Finland being ever anxious to maintain it's neutrality it was surprising that in June 1954 the Finnish government elected to purchase the Republic Thunderstreak F-84J. However, in typically Finnish fashion the purchase of 40 F-84J's was organised via the Swedish government and the aircraft chosen could hardly be called 'state of the art' being essentially a warmed-up F-84F Thunderstreak with the General Electric J73-GE5EX engine (non-afterburning and rated at 9,000lbs thrust) shoehorned in. No munitions were supplied and SAAB were chosen to prepare the aircraft for Ilmavoimat service with four British Hispano V 20mm cannon replacing the six 0.5 calibre machine guns of the standard F-84F and giving the F-84J a strong 'neutral' flavour throughout, even to the extent of carrying mainly British, Swedish or Soviet weapons. Entering service with HavLLv31 in 1956 the aircraft equipped two squadrons and at least gave the Ilmavoimat a taste of a 'modern' swept-wing fighter although the F-84J was certainly no F-86 Sabre and, presumably, that was the whole point! INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-84J folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-84J folder into your main Decals folder. That's it!! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Special thanks to ludo.m54 for the superb F-84F templates. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. 9. Oh no. It's out of me own 'ed. As you know, Rolls Royce like to name their engines after rivers so this spiffing Anglo-French engine was given the seemingly neutral name of Sequanna which is the latin name for the River Seine (actually the Celtic Goddess of the River Seine). And, similarly, that's how the Adour gets its name - a French river that preserves Derby's finest 'river name' tradition.
  10. Republic Aviation Thunderstreak F-84J of HavLLv31, Ilmavoimat.
  11. Many thanks for your replies guys and to Florian for the PM (I'll check it out tonight).
  12. Is there anyway I can get a missile rail to appear on a stock aircraft (e.g. Hunter or Thunderstreak) when I add 'IRM' to an outer wing weapon station that normally says 'BOMB,FT,GP (copyright Agostini). Adding IRM gets an Atoll or Sidewinder to appear but slung directly below the pylon and therefore not very realistic. For the avoidance of doubt, I'm not on about adding an additional pylon - just getting a missile rail to appear on an existing pylon. Thanks in advance.
  13. Republic Aviation F-84J of HavLLv31, Ilmavoimat (Finnish Air Force) Somemore pictures and a short backstory can be found at my 'what if' thread (below).
  14. Yes, no problem.
  15. Awesome! Great article on the VPAF MiG-19's/J-6's in Wings of Fame Volume 11.
  16. View File [Fictional] Aero L.23 Czechoslovak Jet Fighter Aero L.23 'Furball' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:EUROPE This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire Dassault Super Mystere to give a very fictional Aero L.23 (NATO codename 'Furball') with markings for the Czechoslovak Air Force, the East German Air Force and also for the Polish Air Force - all within a 1958 to 1981 timeline. The markings are pretty generic and I've used stock Third Wire serials and numbers lists. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Aero_L23 folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Aero_L23 folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. 19. Aero Vodochody L.23's - Czechoslovak Air Force, 1961. The Third Wire Super Mystere masquerading as a fictional Czechoslovak swept-wing fighter. Apart from using the 'redbolt' decal (taken from one of the recent MiG-19 releases) this uses the stock Third Wire serial numbers 'CZAFBLACK4NUM' - it's all there for us to explore and play around with!
  20. Epic shot fougamaster. People used to pay megabucks for prints nowhere near as good as that.
  21. Lavochkin La-19's of the Soviet VVS
  22. Apologies - I meant to add that whilst I've used the Hunter pit then you'll need to swith to, perhaps, the A-4B pit if your SF2 game doesn't have a flyable Hunter.
  23. Revised with another 100 decals, a switch to capitals and some standarisation on names and sizes.
  24. View File [Fictional] Canadair CF-103 Callisto Canadair CF-103 Callisto for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock MiG-19S to give a very fictional 'what if' Canadair CF-103 Callisto with markings for No.423 Squadron and No.433 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force. I did this as a request back in 2009 and this update is just to add a screenshot to the listing but I've changed the name to fit in with the Canadian system of aircraft designation (the real CF-103 never left the drawing board) and I've also tweaked a few things including the Third Wire MiG-19's ferocious rate of roll at low-level. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the CF-103 folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the CF-103 folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Special thanks to Rambler 1-1 for his request which lead to this bit of fun. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 2 - February 7th, 2024. Submitter Spinners Submitted 12/31/2009 Category What If Hangar
  25. Sukhoi Su-13 'Starfighterski' Honestly, an Australian put me up to this! More pictures at my 'what if' link below. Good night and a Happy New Year!
