  1. Samurai's Shipyard

It's certainly been a while. I'm sure you've seen the Jeanne d'Arc recently, but here are some other projects I'm working on. First, I plan to do some more French ships. Here's the La Fayette so far. I'm doing this one first so I can also make the Taiwanese version (Kang Ding class). FREMM and Horizon are also in the works. Probably a Georges Leygues and Cassard too. I'm still working on the long-hull Essex. I finally finished unwrapping the hull, and the main texture will be 4096x4096 so that the deck looks as crisp as possible. I still have a lot of work to do on the island, though. By the way, does anyone have a close-up photo of the pre-refit bridge? I think I've done a decent job on the late-era enclosed version, but I'm stuck on the original version (below). Diagrams and grainy photos are all telling me different things. I know people want a Ka-25, but I gave up on the one I was building. Sorry. Someone else said they were working on one, anyway. However, I did find a partially completed model of a different Kamov on a free model site a while back, so I put this together as practice: The skin is really low-res (it's just a basic camo scheme the thing came with), and the flight model is extremely touchy on the yaw (I did the best I could with it). But it flies. I put in lights, animated doors and landing gear shocks. If you guys want it, I'll upload it.
  2. File Name: Jeanne d'Arc helicopter carrier File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 22 February 2015 File Category: Cruisers This model represents the Jeanne d'Arc helicopter cruiser of the French Navy, in service from 1964 to 2010. The only ship of her class, "La Jeanne" was primarily used as a training ship in peacetime, but could serve as a fully capable helicopter carrier in times of crisis. Three different versions are included, covering each major refit of her long service life. Exocet missile launchers were added in 1975, while the aft guns were removed and some electronics were replaced in 2000. The Jeanne d'Arc's large flight deck can handle the simultaneous launch of up to four helicopters. Nighttime deck lights and fake arresting wires are in place for your convenience. Note: This model's role is designated as an aircraft carrier by default. You may change this by setting WarshipClass=CRUISER or WarshipClass=TRANSPORT depending on your preference. Great work. Any chance you have the templates available? I'd like to do a JASDF skin for it.
  5. File Name: Zulfiqar class frigate File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 21 September 2012 File Category: Frigates This model represents the Zulfiqar class frigate, also known as F-22P type, in service with the Pakistan Navy since 2009. This class is an improved version of China's Type 053H3 Jiangwei-II class ships, armed with the same missiles but significantly more advanced close-in weapons. These general purpose frigates are Pakistan's most modern warships. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or constructive criticisms regarding this model, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you! Click here to download this file
  6. I like this idea. Helps prevent redundancy. In dry dock (models partially completed/high priority) Long-hull Essex (2 versions: WWII and 1950s) PLA vehicle pack (20~30 tanks, IFV, APC, AAA, SAM, Radar sites) Hyuga Atago San Antonio Sergei Gorshkov, Steregushchy Kirov (4 versions, heavy rebuild underway) Type 45 Daring On the drawing board (reference material collected, some components completed) Modern PLAN fleet (Type 052 Luhu, Type 051B Luhai, Type 051C Lanzhou, Type 052B Guangzhou, Type 052C Luzhou, Type 054 Jiangkai-I, Type 054A Jiangkai-II) Modern ROK fleet (Ulsan, Guanggaeto the Great, Chungmugong Yi SunSin, Sejong the Great) Modern Euro fleet (La Fayette, FREMM, Horizon, Alvaro de Bazan) Remaining JMSDF ships (Osumi, Tachikaze, Hatakaze, Haruna, Shirane, Abukuma, Hayabusa, PG-1) Spruance refits (several versions) "Maybe someday" (low priority) European vehicle pack Wasp Georges Leygues Cassard SH-60 An actual airplane, for once (most likely something JASDF related)

The Zulfiqar update is being uploaded now. Here is a close-up of the Chinese Type 730 CIWS. It's a 7-barrel 30mm gatling gun that seems to be a knock off heavily inspired by the Goalkeeper. I've tweaked the performance of these weapons to make them more effective (but still not 100% reliable) at taking out anti-ship missiles, so they're somewhere between the stock Phalanx and AK-630 in effectiveness. In other words, the ship (and any future PLAN warship I make with this gun) is now a credible threat in-game. You mean this Daring? Started one myself a while ago. It still needs to be mapped and textured, build a new Aster-30 missile, and install the Harpoons/CIWS. Could be done in a few weeks if I put off all other projects. Judging by the response to the Suffren, I'm thinking I should do more European ships soon.
  8. Zulfiqar class frigate

This model has been updated with an improved mesh and textures, as with the related Jiangwei class. The combat performance has also been enhanced, particularly the 30mm CIWS, making it more of a challenge to engage. Enjoy!
  9. Samurai's Shipyard

I just realized that I forgot to update the Zulfiqar class (Pakistani Navy) with the other Jiangwei variants, so I'm taking a bit of time to give that ship a proper overhaul too. The AK-176 gun has been rebuilt, and it'll be re-used on several other ships I have planned. I'm optimizing and re-mapping the Type 730 CIWS (not pictured here) as well, because they'll come in handy later too. I've also given the ship a flared bow and wider hangar like it's supposed to have. I know there's not a great need for naval battles in the India/Pakistan terrain, but this model could always be re-purposed as a generic modern threat ship for 2nd/3rd world navies.
  10. Go ahead and send me the map, Wrench. I don't know much about the map symbology of that era, but if I can't figure it out, I can at least pass it along to someone who might know more.
  11. I can read it. Sort of. Aside from the parts that I just can't make out because the letters are overlapping (great job, 1940's mapmaker guy!), the inherent problem is that the Japanese used their own arbitrary pronunciations for Chinese characters. It's kind of like how Americans pronounce "lieutenant" as it actually looks, and Brits say "LEFTenant," but far, far worse. And since I'm not an expert on that time period (nor on Taiwan specifically), I can only make wild educated guesses as to what the Imperial Japanese actually called those locations. Example 1: The big city in the upper left corner is Kaohsiung (高雄). The same characters in Japanese would be read "Takao." (Exact same name as the Takao class heavy cruiser.) Example 2: Directly right of center on the east coast is a small town called Dawu (大武). The Japanese pronunciation would be "Daibu." Example 3: The very southern-most part of the island is Kenting (墾丁), currently a national park. Japanese pronunciation would be "Kontei." Note that on this map, the characters are read from right to left. On modern maps they'd be left to right. The modern day area this map is depicting is right here: https://www.google.co.jp/maps/@22.3250843,120.7711441,10z Hopefully you can match things up from that.
  12. Suffren class frigate

This model represents the Suffren class frigate of the French Navy, in service from 1967 to 2007. They were the first French ships to be designed as guided missile frigates, tasked with escorting the Clemenceau-class aircraft carriers. The two ships of the class, Sufren and Duquesne, are easily recognizable by their huge radomes housing the DRBI-23 3D radar. The ships' primary weapon is the Masurca SAM, designed using data from the US Navy's Terrier program. Three different versions are included, covering each major refit of their long service lives, adding Exocet missiles as well as upgrades for the guns and electronics. While officially referred to as frigates, the Suffren class are destroyers for all intents and purposes and have destroyer "D" hull numbers. Their in-game role and RWR signature reflects this. See the readme for full details and credits. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or constructive criticisms regarding this model, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you!

Working just fine for me right now-- Maybe the file was still being updated/verified when you tried.

I forgot to put the decals in the package. If you're one of the first dozen people or so who already downloaded it before I caught this error, please re-download to get the decals. Thanks!
  16. Last of the Suffren variants is finished. I'll try to upload either tonight or tomorrow morning. Here is a close-up of the main guns and new GIAT F2 guns. The twisty ammunition feeders were not easy to build. I will include the Malafon as a separate optional weapon, complete with a "torpedo" as the second stage, and I will provide the coordinates to line it up perfectly on the launcher with the static one. I will not be adding the launcher data to the ships; that's up to the end user.
  17. I had already finished the Masurca missile. It will be packaged with the ship when I upload it. No need to make another one. For future reference, when making a 2-stage missile, you need to separate the components into the main motor and the booster. Here is what it should look like in the schematic view: Then in the missile's data.ini file, you need to input "boosternodename=booster" like logan4 said. Whatever component you name here will detach after the boost phase. This can be used to detach other parts instead of a booster, too. For example, on my ASM-3 model (supersonic cruise missile), I used the boosternodename to have the ramjet intake covers jettison. As for the Malafon, there are no valid targets for it in this sim. It would just act as a regular anti-ship missile. Therefore I'm not adding it into the Suffren model except as static details. On the other hand, the Exocet launchers will be fully functional:
  18. Early version of the Suffren is now complete. I just need to finish the Exocet double launchers and put the refit versions together. I decided to use the blue & white Mk1 paint scheme for the Masurca rather than grey, just because it's more easily recognizable. Small issue I found: Since this is the only cold war French escort we have, the game will often assign three or four of them to the Clemenceau/Foch. Only two of this class were ever built, so the other two appear as generic unnamed "Suffren class frigates." Basically, we need more French frigates for this project. And I have my hands completely full with the Essex/Hyuga/Atago/San Antonio/Kirov rebuilds/PLAN vehicles/secret projects/etc. Hopefully someone else can take care of it. I recommend the Suffren's contemporary cousin, the Tourville class: She has similar forward superstructure and main gun layout, similar mast/smokestack, and almost the same overall dimensions as the Suffren. I can provide the .max file and texture patterns for whoever wants to use the parts. I'm also halfway done with a Crotale launcher which I can also make available for this ship or the Georges Leygues class.
  19. Suffren is now working in-game. Still need to finish textures and the later variants. I'm using Terriers as a stand-in until I finish the Masurca model. On the subject of submarines, a Type 209 would be great to have. It's used by over a dozen different countries.
  20. Best news I've heard all week. Are those Helixes functional? If they're currently just "deck-oration," maybe Marcello could just export one separately so we can have a flyable Kamov? This post made me so excited, I obliterated an airbase.
  21. I'd love to do a Yamato and WW2 Iowa someday. But... Wrench took the words outta my mouth. So, maybe someday is all I can tell you.
  22. It's gradually getting there. Started textures, but still need to finish a few parts.
  23. A typhoon is keeping me under house arrest this weekend, so I got a lot of work done on the Suffren. Close to 80% of the mesh is done and mapped, just need to add the fire control radars (because I am having trouble finding good photos of them) and some finer details. The biggest challenge will be to texture the main radome properly. It needs to have a seamless pattern like this:
  24. Rollout was at Komaki, not far from where I live. I saw the wind tunnel model on base last year. The ATD-X, like the name implies, is an advanced technology demonstrator, so it's still in the very early stages. The eventual goal is to have a stealthy, light-weight, super-maneuverable air superiority fighter to replace the JASDF's legacy aircraft (as well as improve Japan's indigenous aerospace technology). If/when this aircraft evolves into a real "F-3," I think we can expect to see a lot of refinements to the design, as well as the usual fabricated outrage from certain neighboring countries.
  25. File Name: F-15DJ skin pack File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 09 August 2014 File Category: F-15 This is a package of high-resolution (4096x4096) textures for the F-15DJ in its current JASDF livery, representing the 23rd Squadron and 202nd Squadron. Authentic squadron markings and serial decals for each of the currently operational F-15DJ aircraft are included. As the texture is designed exclusively for the F-15DJ_97 from the F-15 Super Pack, you need to download and install that pack first if you haven't already. IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to save CombatAce's bandwidth and your hard drive space, the main texture files have been placed in the aircraft folder instead of each skin folder, since every squadron has identical skins aside from decals and markings. This will not overwrite or override any existing skins. Any textures placed in individual skin folders will take precedence over what's in the main folder, so other texture sets should still work fine.
