Swedish terrain problem
Gepard replied to Stipe's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
It seems to be, that you does not has the GermanyCE.cat file Without this cat file you will not see the basic objects of the game. Open file sweden.ini with notepad editor look for line: CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat and replace it by CatFile=..\desert\desert.cat save the file and enjoy gaming -
Blood for Oil Modern Campaign
Gepard replied to hotrodss's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Your problem seems to be a mismatch between plane and weaponpack. To check it out you must open 2 files with notepad editor First file is MiG-29A_Data.ini. You find it in your MiG-29 folder in the aircrafts folder The other file is weapondata.ini which you find in the weapons folder Lets begin with weaponsdata.ini Press CTRL+F and look for AA-10 This should show you the entries for the Alamo missile Check wheter there is a line: SpecificStationCode=AA10 Then go to the MiG-29A_Data.ini and look for the same line. STRG+ F and SpecificStationCode=AA10 If you have in both files the same line then the AA-10 Alamo should be available in game. If there is a difference, then corrcet the line in the MiG-29A_data.ini. It must exactly the same like in the weaponsdata.ini. Give it a try. -

Good argument. But to be honst, how realistic would be a fireexchange with China? I doubt that it will happen, because the ecomonies of the big countries are so closely networked (hope that is the correct english term, perhaps connected or depending are better words). American debts are the rich of China. If China would attack America it would destroy its own debitor. If America would attack China it would harm its own interessetd because the Chinese would sell all US depts on the free market with the result, that the USA would be bankrupt into some days. And then the Chinese could say "Good bye" to their money. And this will not change in the next years. So the only real enemies the free world has to fear are gras root terrorists or failing states. For the medium timeframe i will agree with you. We dont know who will be friend or foe in 20 or 30 years and the good old latin proverb. "Civic pacem para bellum" is very true. But the technological world will have changed dramaticaly in this timeframe. The Raport is outdated then. And the successors will be the drones. Its not the future i wish, but i think the drones or UAV, UCV will be the weapons of the wars in the medium range timeframe. In the case of the F-22 we will surely only agree, that we disagree.

Open the file MiG-29A_data.ini with notepad editor scroll down to weapons look for lines like: SpecificStationCode=R-27R change this lines into //SpecificStationCode=R-27R try it again. (The specficstationcode weapon can be different from the example line.) -
You want to fight the wars of the past. For this wars the F-22 fits perfectly. I want to fight the wars of today and tomorrow. And there the F-22 is not the best choice. The F-22 is a technological milestone and a masterpiece of engeniering. No question. Its a high capable plane. Again no question. But it is not neccessary to have the high capablilities, but the right capabilities. And the F-22 has not the right capabilities for today and tomorrow. The needed capabilities are: a plane must operate under rough field conditions, must be able to attack ground targets and support ground forces, must be resistant against damages, should have low operational costs and the industry must be able to build the plane in high scales if needed. Not one of this today needs the F-22 can reach.

There are different MiG-29s in the download section. Which do you use? -
And the next reverse engineered fighter in China is..........

Never make a deal with China if you dont wish to see a copy of your product. -
For the future the F-22 is not good enough. It has its advantages only by their stealth potential. In WVR dogfights it is beaten very often. Eurofighter had done it and F-16s too. You will answer, the F-22 is intended to fight from distance. But this is only possible as long the enemy has no stealth planes. The PAK FA is said to have the same stealth factor as the F-22. If this is true, then the time of BVR superiority for the USAF is gone. Then WVR dogfights will be again. And this is a job the F-22 cant really do. But this is an hypothetical scenario. Which major Air Force could face the US. Russia? China? Forget it. The danger of today and tomorrow will be assymetrical. No high tech fighter planes but gras root terrorists. Good luck with the F-22. 100 newly build state of the art A-10 would be much more better.
-
Some true arguments, but how often the A-10 has faced Su-27 opposition in the last 10 years? And the battle ships were never used in the role they were intended when they were built.
-
Any series similar to Dogfights from the other end of things?
Gepard replied to Nesher's topic in Military and General Aviation
It would be nice to hear something about the soviet fighter town in Tadjikistan. The red counterpart to Top Gun. -
The F-22 is a technical masterpiece. But the battleships between WW1 and 2 were technical masterpieces too. And they had nearly no effect on WW2 warfare. The same is with the F-22. No really need in the real world. A nice to have, but how many soldiers life saved the F-22 in AFG or Iraq? In contrast to the old and outdated non glamorous A-10.

For point 4: Try to download a new version of the F/A-18. it seems to be, that the version you use was made for an older patch. You must look, which date of release the files has. The weapon load problem of the MiG-29 indicates that there is a mismatch between the plane and the weapon pack. There a little bit mod work in the MiG-29A_data.ini is neccessary. -

Wirkung so la la.

Swedish Air Force Pilot-in-Training Videos
Gepard replied to JonathanRL's topic in Military and General Aviation
They should prefer the UH-60. Is a much more proofen and reliable system than the NH-90. -
Ansonsten platzt man sehr schnell.

General Dynamics F-16A - German Luftwaffe

Exactly. But the F-16 would have been a cool plane for the LW. Or even better the F-20. -

Gepard replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
Cool skin. The F-16 in german service is unrealistic, because only single engined plane. But it would have been the perfect choice for the Bundesluftwaffe. -
I guess, that the first granade did not start and they put a second one in. This happens relativly often. When i was at Seargent training in my military time at the seargent school we had a similar accident. Some soldiers were heavily wounded on 2 or 3 died. its long ago. Must have been end 88 or early 89. s**t happens.
-

Affect of player damage on Campaign
Gepard replied to Number6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Its true. But the effect is overrated in game. In 1967 six days war campaign i bombed Ramat David Airfield at 8 in the morning and at the next mission at 12 o clock the base was operatinal again. So i destroyed it again only to see, that it was operational again for the evening mission. Other terrain, other campaign. Battle of Brittain terrain for the 60th. My Hunter squadron operated from Biggin Hill. The airfield was attacked by waves of Vatours and they bombed the runway. Normaly the airfield must close, because you cant land on a destroyed runway. In game it went fine. All planes landed perfectly without damage.
