Delta vs F-4 tactics?
Gepard replied to harryleith's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You are right i meant worser than worthier English language = difficult language  If Streakeagle said, that the combat records are favoring TK's assessment, so he is right, but also wrong. This point of view forgets one major factor and this factor is the soldier, pilot, who fight with the weapon. Only one example from October 1973. Israeli observers stated, that egyptian T-55 tanks fought from stand still and needed 35 to 45 seconds to open the fire after detecting an enemy vehicle. Its a fact and true, but to draw the conclusion that the T-55 is not able to fight while driving and needs always more than 30 seconds to open the fire is dangerous. Why? In the east german army (NVA) the T-55 tank crews were drilled to fight while driving and open the fire after 15 seconds maxium after detecting the enemy vehicle. Imagine what would have happen if NVA tanks would have faced egyptian tanks in 1973: Lets say one company in combat against one other T-55 company (10 vehicles each), one East german, the other egyptian, all tankers detect the enemy at the same time. After 15 seconds the east germans open the fire. Hit chance of T-55 gun was 2/3 = 66%, what means, that 6 or 7 of the egyptian tanks would be hit and destroyed. The duell is now 10 vs 4 or 3. Even if the egyptians would fire back now, they would kill only one or two enemy tanks, but in case, that the egyptians need 35 seconds to open the fire, the east germans would fire the second round 5 seconds earlier than the egyptians their first shot, what means, that all egyptian tanks would be destroyed after the second or at least third german salvo. The same happend when israeli tanks came in contact with egyptians in 1973. The israeli victories were victories of the more skilled soldiers, not of the better armed soldiers. And last to fight the F-4E in game with the Mirage III is possible if you stay low and not to fast, and never go vertical. In reality it might have been different. -

There are moments in the history which are burned in the brains of the mankind. And the most people still today know what they had done when they got knowledge about this moment. For the older generation the murder of President Kennedy was such a moment, or the begin of a war. And for our generation such moments are the fall of the Berlin Wall and 9-11. What did you do in the moment when you got knowledge about the attacks of 9-11? Lets begin with myself: I came home from work, it was a sunny day, i had gone by bicylce to work and back. When i entered my flat i saw my wife sitting in front of the TV set. She looked speechless on the screen where one of the WTC towers was smoking. She looked and looked and does not realized that i was home. I was a little bit angry about this ignorance and so i said:" What for hell do you watching this moviebullsh..... Is there nothing better on TV." I had not realized that it was live what she saw on TV, for me it was some strange movie. And then she answered: "Its no movie, its real!" For the first moment i thought nothing, glanced on the screen and did understand nothing. And then i thought: "Oh, oh!" and some seconds later "This means war!"

Delta vs F-4 tactics?
Gepard replied to harryleith's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The stock MiG-23 are undermodelled a little bit when you compare it to the F-4. The same is to say about the soviet missiles, even the R-3S (AA-2) is worther than the AIM-9B and it was in reality a perfect one to one copy. If you want to fight a F-4 with a Mirage or a MiG-23 or MiG-21 stay low, fight below 500 meters, there the radar of the F-4 cant lock on your plane, what means, that your opponent is unable to fire the Sparrows. in curve combat use the best turning speed of yor plane, what means, dont pull the stick to much, dont lose speed to much. Try to fly high speed or low speed jojos, if you has the enemy on your tail fly scissors, use your airbrake, make all the pilots stuff to avoid that he can open the fire. In a MiG-21 you can outturn a Phantom, with a well flown Mirage III too. -
51 years ago today... Operation Skyshield 1
Gepard replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Military and General Aviation
On the other side of the iron curtain similar exercises were made. In one exercice mid 60th over the GDR (east germany)around 50% of the "intruders" made their way to their targets and back. -

Question: Cold War fighters: Internal Jammers
Gepard replied to GalmOne's topic in Military and General Aviation
Jammers are optimized for the radars they had to face. During Yom Kippur war the israeli planes had heavy losses when they carried the US jammers, which the US Forces used in Vietnam at the same time. For the SA-2 SAM systems this jammers were made, but were unable to jam the much more modern SA-3 or SA-6. During 1972 (or was it early 1973?) the soviets tested a jammer system which was optimized against the Hawk near the Golan Heights. With this jammer in back the syrian MiGs were able to circle over israeli SAM sites and no one of the many fired Hawk missiles hit a plane. -

British Carriers
Gepard replied to charlie1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In WOV you has some scripted carrier missions. You must only modify them to use british carriers. -
Ehm, that the rebells has taken Tripolis does mean nothing about the end of the war. Do you remember how US troops had taken Baghdad? Do you remember how old George said "Mission accomblished"? And some weeks later there was a very nasty guerilla war. Will hope that history this time not repeat.

Munich war 1938

Monty nice models SFP1Ace may history be history, and the future a peacefull one. -
Of course a Tornado or a Hurrican will damage west or central european style houses too. Sure. But the damage is not as bad as we can see it in the USA very often. When we have such Tornados here in Germany the damage is mostly that the roofs are blown away, but with the US light houses the entire house is gone. Its simpler and cheaper to rebuild a roof, than a entire house. Here an example, two photos, a german village before Tornado came and after hit by Tornado. A american style village would have been flatted. By the way and OT. When the germans had had their colonies in Africa hundred years ago they build houses with clay. The walls of this clay houses were 1 meter or more thick. With the result, that the houses were cool and comfortable. In 1919 the british came and build light wooden houses and the inhabitants sweat, because it was hot in this houses.

Munich war 1938
Gepard replied to Monty CZ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Its true, but it is only the half truth. When Poland was reborn after WW1 (and i think it was good that the polish people had a own state again) it was polish policy to rebuild Poland in the borders which it had end 17 century. The problem was, that major parts of this territories were not populated with polish people but with ukrainians, czech, german, belorussians, lithuanians etc. With the result that the republic of poland was very soon in war with all of their neighbourstates. Okay, not with Romania, but with all others. In this wars Poland occupied territories with non polish people and in the time till September 1939 it was polish policy to "polonize" this people. You mentioned Danzig. This town was german since hundreds of years and was populated by germans by more than 85%. In the polish corridor it was the same. A lot of germans who were citizens of Poland served in the polish army and fought against NaziGermany. My grandfarther was one of them and his uncle too. My grandfather was lucky, that he was captured by german forces in September and became POW in a POW camp near Magdeburg. His uncle, Kapitan in a cavallery regiment, was captured by the soviets. He ended in Katyn. In one of his last letters he wrote how his commanders gave the order to attack german tanks with sabre and lance and that his regiment followed this order with extreme bravery. but unfortunatly the german tanks were not made by wood and cotton as the commanders said. Today the polish side denied that this attack was made. -
Sorry guys, but always if i see extrem weather situations in the USA, i ask myself, why they dont build weather proof buildings? This tiny houses made by wood, no wonder that a storm can do maxium destruction. Dont want to offence one, hope that all will be fine if the storm is over.

Munich war 1938
Gepard replied to Monty CZ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Poland was at this time an ally for Hitler. It was a small robber state in alliance with a big robber state. In early 1939 it changed the sides and went to ally with England and France, so Hitler had seen the polish state as traitors and punished it. The polish people payed with 6 million lives. The interessting point of history is, what if Colonel Beck, the polish foreign minister, in early 1939 would not had decided to change the sides. What if Poland would have stayed Hitler ally and both states would have invaded Sovietrussia in 1939 or 1940. I guess, that the west powers (England and France) would have done nothing to help the Stalin regime and so the soviet union would have collapsed. At this time to soviets had not had the modern weapons which finally had beaten the Nazis, no T-34 tanks, no modern fighter and bomber planes. And without the american supply of fuel, food, cars, trucks and ammo they would have had no chance, as showed the winter war 1940 against Finnland. -
Munich war 1938
Gepard replied to Monty CZ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Nice scenario. If Poland would not had had blocked the soviets the CSR would have had a good chance to withstand the Nazis. The czech panzer forces had good vehicles, the army had a good bunker defence line and the czech planes were not bad. But are you sure, that a airborne ranger attack would be launched at 4.30 am at the 1.october. At this time it is dark. There is no chance to bring airborne ranger saftly to the earth. In 1938 it was impossible for bombers to find their targets at night. In the list of planes you have forgotten the SB bombers of czech side. -
Anyone else like this idea?
Gepard replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The EAW Euro terrain is downscaled. You can easily fly from London to Berlin with a Spitfire. Such a terrain must be rebuild from scratch. And this is a big job.
