Making ground objects from terrain folders
Gepard replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
The planes at the ground are generated at the airfield by the gameengine itself. (singlemissions and campaign) In a self scrippted mission you can use all ground objects which are placed in the groundobjects folder. For a static FokkerDRI you must create such a folder and place all neccessary files in this folder. That are all files you find in the FokkerDRi plane folder plus the LOD file, which you must extract first with SFP1E tool. Then you must edit the FokkerDRI_data.ini file in the way, that the plane cant start anymore and and and. If i remember right, there someone had make static planes for SFP1 for using in scripted missions. Perhaps you should look there how he had done it. In a similar way you can include Hangars etc in scrippted missions. But i think it would be easier to look for a place on the map where you find what you need. -

Jaguar A question

Thanks for the info. -
"War is continuation of politics by other means, conducted in a manner dictated by generaly accepted law and custom" This words are written by von Clausewitz in his book "Vom Kriege". Some, better said the most people believe that this famous word are the definition of war. And so our politicians make war as a continuation of their politics, in the kind they make politics. And this is one reason for the desasters of the "democratic warfare". Von Clausewitz definition of war is different. He wrote: "War is an act of violance with whom we try to force the enemy our will." (I hope this translation is correct. The german original text is: Krieg ist ein Akt der Gewalt mittels dessen wir dem Feind unseren Willen aufzwingen wollen.) I would hope our politicians would anderstand the big difference.

Flyable MiG-27 for WoE This is a mod of the stock MiG-27 of Wings over Europe. It will not work with SFP1 and WOV because the lod files are not included. If you want to use it with SFP1 or WOV you must copy the MiG-27.lod files from WOE. ****************************************************** INSTALLATION: Unzip all files into your Wings Over Europe/Objects/Aircraft folder. Thats it. ****************************************************** differences to stock MiG-27: * modified flightmodel of the plane to improve the handling. * added some armour, so that the MiG-27 now can survive MG fire * added on board jammer * added 5 flares * added Magos great MiG-21F cockpit (thanks for it Mago!) * plane can now fly intercept and CAP missions * added a syrian skin with arab tactical numbers +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hope you enjoy it Michael (Gepard) -
MiG-21MF-75

Each east german MiG-21 had had a unique camo sceme. What means, you could make more than 250 original camo scemes. -
I will focus my words on war theory and on conclusion toward the war at the Hindukush. The term "War on Terror" or "War against Terror" show the problem. Its a problem of understanding. Terror is no opponent which you can fight. Terror is a tactic, its a strategy. "War against terror" is nonsens like "War against Blitzkrieg" or "War against Retreat". You can fight only against an enemy. Conclusion: Look who the enemy is. Name it. Then decide how to fight. This are the basics. The other basics are written in the book "Vom Kriege" by the prussian general Carl von Clausewitz. This book is standard in all military libraries all around the world. Its an old book (written 1832) but up today the best book about the subject of war. Read it and you know what went wrong in Afghanistan. Two basic rules by Clausewitz are called "Victory". 1." To achieve the victory you must fight with all power, with all ressources and with all methodes of warefare. If not you will lose the war." Ask: Is the west willing to fight following the first rule? If yes we should sent more men into Afghanistan. And if i say more men i'm not speaking of 30.000, but of 3.000.000. If no then we should retreat as fast as possible. 2 rule by Clausewitz:."The victory is achieved either if the enemy is accepting our will or if he is totally annihilated, so that he is unable to resist our will." Conclusion: Our enemy are the taliban. They are fanatic religious motivated guerilla fighters. It is impossible to break their will. Thatswhy they must be annihilated man by man. But as guerilla fighters the taliban were supported by the people of Afghanistan (Mao said: A guerilla is withn the people like a fish in the water. It is difficult, or nearly impossible to decide friend or foe) Conclusion: To annihilate all taliban it is neccessary to annihilate all supporters. What in reality means, that if one person in a village would support the Taliban you must annihilate the entire village, all men, women, children, even all animals. You must burn them out. You must break the resistance by all means. What means our forces will have to do warcrimes to win this war. Ask: Is the west willing to fight in this way? Is he willing to accept war crimes to annihilate the enemy. If the answer is yes, then send more troops. If the answer is no, then call back the boys. Final conclusion following Clausewitz: Make a war right, or let it be.

My two cents to this subject. It is unfortunatly impossible to expand an existing map. So you cant include London in Flanders terrain. It is outside the map (height data field) and then there is the "invisible wall" too, which is along the edges of a terrain which you cant penetrate. It is also true, that the SFP1 tiles covers an 2000x2000 meters area, while FE use 500x500meters. If you want to improve the look of my BoB terrain you have two ways. Either you increase the size (pixels) of the tiles (for instance use 1024x1024 pixel instead 256x256) or you retile the entire terrain with FE tiles which is an very time consuming procedure. By the way, perhaps it would be better to use the modern BoB70 terrain for a WW1 mod. Paris is completly new tiled there. A lot more targets and a Eiffel tower (not the best model i must say)

Its outstanding if i focus my view on the movie technology. I have never seen such a movie before. Chapeau! But the story! I dont know, its reminds me ... Lets say the old west german Winnetou movies, it reminds me to "Dances with Wolves" it reminds me .... I think better good copied that bad self developed.

Who knew P-3's were so threatening?
Gepard replied to DWCAce's topic in Military and General Aviation
Arroganz is the first step to underestimate an enemy. Underestimation is the first step in the mud. So it was in Korea, so it was in Vietnam, so it was in Iraq, so it was in Afghanistan ... Hopefully not in Venezuela. Nobody is forced to love Chavez. But call him a MF or ass..le or nuts or crazy or stupid does not solve the problem. In contrary. You give him what he need, the outside enemy. Its so easy for Chavez to wave with the fingers and call the old song of "old bad imperialistic US". And his people will believe him. Sometimes it is better to set on smart ideas than on the power of muscles. The war on the heads in the arabic world is already lost. And it are serious signs that the war on the heads will be lost in south america. -
Who knew P-3's were so threatening?
Gepard replied to DWCAce's topic in Military and General Aviation
If i read the most statements here i can again see why the US is so "well loved" all over the world. Its the attituide to say "I'm big, i can do that, and i will do what i want." As a friend during my study times said: "The USA are a big dinosaur who want to be loved by all people of the world. But as a big animal he is so ignorant that he does not see if he is trampling small animals down. And then he is astonished if the small animals suddenly bite back." Unfortunatly this is more than true. -
Its a letter of request, not an order. Its not sure that the C-17 will fly in indian colors.

Hi folks. I tried to make a campaign for my Afghanistan terrain. But i failed. Always if i try to start the campaign i get CTD. Below the lines of the campaign_data.ini file. Netherlands Terrain?
Gepard replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I think the problem is that the Netherlands are partly below sea level. Some years ago i tried to build a terrain that covered Holland, but i got strange errors in game (high and sharp contoured hills instead flat lands.) -

MiG-21Bison (21-93)
Gepard posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: MiG-21Bison (21-93) File Submitter: Gepard File Submitted: 28 December 2009 File Category: Mig-21 Fishbed MiG-21 Bison aka MiG-21-93 aka MiG-21 UPG ************************************* HISTORY ************************************* In 1993 the MiG-21-93 made its debut on various airshows, for instance in Le Bourget and Berlin. It was a major update for the MiG-21bis which incorporated a modern radar, a modern data link system and modern ECM capability. The MiG-21-93 had a dramatically increased combat capabilities. It now can engage air targets at medium range and can use precison guided weapons against ground and sea targets. India updated its MiG-21bis fleet to the 21-93 standard and called this bird now MiG-21Bison. The bison showed its combat efficiency in various training combats including against american F-15's. ********************************************** MiG-21Bison for WOE, WOV, WOI, SFP1 credits ********************************************** While making the Bison i used a lot of files made by other modders. Thanks for this files! The plane itself: ~~~~~~~~~~ Model by TK The Cockpit is taken from Mirage Factories MiG-29A ~~~~~~~~~ Cockpit by Mago The added objects. ~~~~~~~~~ I took the MiG-23 drop tank to create the longer MiG-21bis style back of the bird. Then i used CIACHOs AKU-58 file to create the chaff flare dispensers And finally my little share ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I edited the Data file to implement the guided missiles, added the ECM and Chaffs etc. And i modified the original Skin to create a fictional East German Bison, the russian and the Indian version. I know that the Indian Bisons are more grey than the light blue, but due the Fake pilot methode i used to place the added objects i had to decide which color this objects should have and so i decided to use a light blue instead the grey. I hope that i havent forgotten someone to give the proper credit. ********************************************** INSTALLATION ********************************************** 1. unzip into your aircraft folder The subfolder MiG-21Bison will be created 2. make sure that the following files are placed in aircraft folder, NOT in MiG-21Bison folder: MiG-21IRWerfer.LOD and bmp MiG-21Stör WPact_Pilot.LOD and bmp otherwise you will see pilots sitting on the wings of the bird. 3. Now install the backtank with following steps 3.1. Em, nice toy. But it has a big recoil and its the question how reliable it is in combat. Can it fire also after landing in dirt and dust or is it such a beast like the first M-16s? And my opinion to the last words of the reporter: Of course this weapon would be a big surprise to the enemy in Afghanistan, but if you remember back, how fast the soviets captured the top secret Stingers in Afghanistan (it were only few days after introduction into combat), then i doubt that the Taliban would get no access to this weapon.

MiG-21Bison (21-93)
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
A complete new MiG-21bis would be very welcome. Of course i know that my Bison is not perfect. I made all what is possible via Fake Pilot methode. For a real Bison a complete new canopy must be designed and this is not possible with Fak Pilot. Unfortunatly. -
Red Storm Rising? Clancys story from the taleswood! Forget it! The Rambo movies are much more real than Red Storm Rising!

Who knew P-3's were so threatening?
Gepard replied to DWCAce's topic in Military and General Aviation
The answer is simple. Nobody like it if military planes of an other country flys over the territory of the own state. What would the US Military do if a venezuelan military plane would circle over Florida Keys? They would send out their F-16's. -
Cool movie from the USSR. German tile "Der Gegenschlag" "Counterstrike" Soviet naval infanterists during a combat exercise. Cool guys and a nice girl. I loved it when i was a boy!

Afghanistan Terrain version 1.0
Gepard posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: Afghanistan Terrain version 1.0 File Submitter: Gepard File Submitted: 01 January 2010 File Category: Terrains Afghanistan Terrain version 1.0 ======================== I. The word before: AFGHANISTAN Terrain IS MADE FOR WINGS OVER ISRAEL (WOI) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it runs with SFP1,WOV and WOE too, but then it does not include all features! *************************************** II. History: From December 1979 till now Afghanistan is a land in war. Soviets, Dushmans, Mudjahedin, Warlords, Taliban and Americans (OEF) destroyed the once florish land nearly completly. This terrain is dedicated to all man who fought in this country and to all who lost their lives in a senseless war. ***************************************** III. The terrain: Afghanistan terrain is now complete. It covers the areas around Kabul, Bagram, Jalalabad, Kunduz, Mazar i Sharif, Kandahar, Herat and Shindand. In comparision with Beta 0.75 i have again retiled some areas to include rivers and to make corrections. New target areas are set, especially around Herat and Shindand. I also included the airbase Shindand. It was the fisrt operational Su-25 base during soviet Afganistan war You can fly and fight along the Jala Road and surrounding mountains, the Kandahar region and in the north eastern part of Afghanistan where today the German ISAF sector is situated. You will find enemy positions in the hills and valleys north of Bagram, but also single bandit troops on the soviet/allied hold lowlands. You will find friendly and enemy fortified hill positions - number of set target areas: -215 - Missions which can be flown are CAS, Armed Recon, Recon, Strike,SEAD -Air to air missions are impossible, because no taliban airfield is set (as historical correct) -I recommend a seperate installation of WOI for Afghanistan terrain. The new nations.ini would otherwise make trouble with other terrains. (I set all nations = friendly, only Afghanistan= Enemy So you can fly for the Soviets and the OEF troops( USA,UK,NL etc) against the same Enemy) You can delete not needed planes (for instance Mirages) and groundobjects (SAM, Radar, most tanks etc) and you can include needed planes, like the Mi-24 or the A-10 more easily. -Panzers, like T-54,55,62 etc should be redesignated from TANK to ARTILLERY in their groundobjects data.ini. The reason is, that Panzers are widely useless in such a mountainous land. With the groundobjects i have included in this package you will have infantry engagements which are more Afghan style - Capun withdraw his permission to use his Mi-24D.lod and Mi-8T-Dest.lod file which were included in the Beta 0.6. Thatswhy you must download this files from Capuns site http://cplengineeringllc.com/SFP1/ -IF you NOT HAVE WOI, you can use this terrain with SFP1,WOV or WOE too, but you must download the Afghanistan tileset from CombatAce download section. Some groundobjects, related with WOI will with other games not appear. ******************************************* IV. INSTALLATION: -Unzip the file into your Wings over Israel Thats it! If you want then you can place mainscreen.bmp into your menu folder. Q: What is to do to make it usable for WOE,WOV and SFP1? For WOE open file Afghanistan.ini with notepad editor overwrite line CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat with CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat For WOV open file Battle of Britain 70.ini with notepad editor overwrite line CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat with CatFile=..\VietnamSEA\VietnamSEA.cat For SFP1 open file Battle of Britain 70.ini with notepad editor overwrite line CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat with CatFile=..\desert\Idesert.cat After this step install Afghanistan tileset by following the Afghanistan tileset Read Me. ****************************************** V. Credits: At this place i want to say thank you to Geo for his permission to use his SquadCent files which i modified into Taliban warriors etc. And to Wrench who allowed me to use Montys Stinger site which i modified into Blowpipe and Strela site. I want to say thank you to Pasko who made the lod file for the BTR-60 and 70 and the single soldier with SA-7 which i also use for RPG-7 and Mortar (recoilless gun.) I want to say thank you to Rebel Ryder for the Taliban Dushka and the Toyota Hillux. And finally i want to say thank you to all who found mistakes and gave me the hint. ******************************************* VI. Disclaimer: Afghanistan Terrain IS FREEWARE. COMMERCIAL USE IS NOT ALLOWED. Sharing of Groundobjects which are part of this package needs the permission of their makers!!!! If you find bugs please post them in StrikeFighters section of Combatace.com forum. ***************************************** VII. The final words: Hope you enjoy it. Good Hunting along the Jalalabad road! Michael (Gepard) ============================================ VIII.
