Operation Seelöwe
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
A question: Is someone interested in a mod of BoB2 terrain with focus on Operation Overlord? To simulate the allied invasion it would be neccessary to rework a major part of northern France and to implement a network for strategic nodes for a campaign. -
Operation Seelöwe
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
The problem has nothing to do with missioncontrol.ini file. A quick and dirty solution would be to open the data.ini of the Hurricane scroll down to the chapter: [Engine] look for line AltitudeTableData=0.896,0.935,1.000,0.982,0.965,0.740,0.623,0.355,0.000,0.000000 and chance it into: AltitudeTableData=1.000,1.000,1.000,0.982,0.965,0.740,0.623,0.355,0.000,0.000000 It is not perfect, but it helps, that the losses during mass takeoff become much less. -

I'm working on a minor update. First: correcting the typo in folder Groundobjects, which must be Groundobject. Second: tactical numbers for the tanks, beginning with the german vehicles: Third: i try to mod the missionscontrol.ini file in a way, that the Hurricanes does not crash a half squadron while takeoff. Me-109 and Spitfire does not have this problem. Dont know why. -

Operation Seelöwe
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
In the last weeks, during the test flights i found a lot of minor mistakes what i had to correct. I hope that i have found all bugs. I think i'm ready with the campaign testing. I included 3 different campaign for the terrain. Two fictionary ones: One Operation Seelöwe, the german invasion in 1940. Two Operation Seelöwe, the german invasion in 1956, and one none fiction the british Nonstop-offensive from 1941, when the RAF made their Rodeo attacks over the English Canal. Screenshot Operation Seelöwe 1956 with a fictionary Republic of Germany as red side: I still have to make the readme file and i hope that i can release the terrain end of the week.- 279 replies

The F-16 and 9Gs
Gepard replied to ralch's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The 9g limit has in reality less to do with the plane, but with the pilot. 9g is the maximum what a human can sustain for a certain time. For short periodes higher g's are possible and the plane can withstand it without trouble. I remember that during Vietnam war a MiG-21, after a missile evading maneuver, came home with 11 or 12 g on the clock. And when the Luftwaffe tested the MiG-29 in early 1990th over g's were not seldom. -
contains interesting footage of military aviation.

Insignias for a new nation
Gepard posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I need the wisdom of our forum. I made a new nation. Added this nation in the nations.ini, which belongs to flight folder. The sequence number of this nation is [Nation213]. I made a insignia for this nation and put it in decals folder. But if i start a plane for this nation in game the insignias are not to see on the plane. Has someone the idea, in which folder i must place the insignia213.tga file? -
I name this plane Bob, or even better Perry.

Insignias for a new nation
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
It will come the the terrain Battle of Britain 2 Operation Seelöwe. I tought it could be interesting to switch the campaign from 1940 to 1956 with Hunters and Canberras for the blue side and MiG-17 and IL-28 for the red side. The historical (what if) background is a successfull assassination of Adolf Hitler and a successfull military coup against the nazis. In result of the events a new german government was formed and a Republik Deutschland (Republic of Germany) was founded. Between the RoG and the western allies it came to an armistice and later a peace treaty. The war against the USSR was continuing fighting which ended in 1950 with a draw. In 1956 the RoG overwhelmed France again and started a second attempt to conquer Britain. -

I have tried to find the ALIAS.LST, but i failed. In which CAT i can find it? -
Fuel tank in russian language is "toplivnij bak". The TB in PTB-450 could stand for it. But i have no idea for what the P is standing.

In November 2016 my book "Mi-24" was released by the german publishing house MOTORBUCHVERLAG. And so it looks. 207 pages full of informations and photos. (Weight 1.050 gram, for our american friends more than 2 pounds.) Written in german language. Some guys asked me here in the forum, whether there would be an english edition. And here it comes: published by Schiffer Publishing in January 2020 Price 39,99$ Includes: the history of Mi-24 development, from the first steps of the "flying Infantry fighting Vehicle" concept, over the Mi-24 prototypes to all Mi-24 versions (21 at least). A walkaround and detailed description of the Mi-24. The armament, including short development history of guns and missiles used by Mi-24s. The Mi-24 tactics developed for the war in Central Europe (written after east german Mi-24 combat drill manuals) The soviet tactics in Afganistan and the fight against the Stinger. A short comparision between Mi-24 and american attack helicopters of the timeframe (AH-1, AH-56, Sikorsky S-67 Blackhawk, AH-64A) The Mi-24 in worldwide use with focus of Germany, but of american use of Mi-24 too. Hope you enjoy it!

The first versions of the Mi-24 could be equipped with internal auxilary tanks with 825 litres each. It were simply two barrels with fuel which were placed in the cargo bay. From version Mi-24P and V the heli could carry 4 external fuel tanks under the hardpoints of the stubwings each tank contains 425 litres. The external fuel tanks were used for ferry missions only. During combat missions no external fuel tank was used. The type designation of the fuel tank i cant found. But along with soviet terminolgy i wuld call them 425 Liter exterlan fuel tank for Mi-24. (BTW the same tanks are used on Mi-28.)

AIM-7M, Super 530D and R-27R comparison
Gepard replied to tiopilotos's topic in Military and General Aviation
The silent shot was possible with MiG-23 too. During Lebanon war 1982 syrian MiG-23MF fired R-23R missiles in silent shot mode and then broke off. Other MiG-23MF took over the task to guide the missiles. The syrians claimed to have shoot down some israeli planes with this methode. With MiG-23ML this methode was not possible.
