  1. Euro Objects

This pack contains several dozen new, high-res Euro ground objects for upgrading the really outstanding maps produced by FE modders. The intent is to push the envelope and see if FE can approach the immersion of more recent flight sims.

There is a lot of confusion concerning FE objects. Generally speaking, mainstream objects (mostly buildings) are 63% of actual size. However, combat units and airfield objects are 100% full size - so they don't look strange when close to full size aircraft.

The screenshots show all of the buildings contained in this pack. They are ALL 63%. Shown, but not included in this pack are airfield objects and WIPs of fortifications and terrain. They will be in a future objects pack and will be full size. Also included in the future pack will be more 63% walls/fences at 5 and 10 degrees for placement on sloping ground, plus more 63% railroad objects.

Use MUE's excellent LOD viewer to identify each object as I don't feel like making explanatory diagrams.

  2. WW2 German Flight Crew

This pack contains flight crew figures designed to fit Veltro's WIP FW189, but they can be used for most any other German WW2 aircraft. There are two different pilot figures - a fighter pilot and a bomber pilot. There are also two gunner figures that - with some repositioning - 3D model guys can fit into aircraft they are working on.

  6. Gladiator "Holes"

This DL contains three multi-layer .pdfs of Gladiator battle damage. Those of you who know your way around a paint program cam make your own TGA damage files for the three Gladiators.

I have software problems that prevent me from making TGAs, and - after a year's worth of effort - I am tired of looking at Gladiator files!

  7. Sea Gladiator

This all new model with hi-res textures is the third of three new Gladiators for FE/FE2. Dedicated SF2 versions will be released shortly.

A lot of guys helped me develop these models, particularly Baffmeister (new FMs), LloydNB (Sea Gladiator skins), and Stephen1918 (file bashing).

Software problems prevented me from including battle damage TGA files, so the raw artwork will be posted separately as "Holes" so you can make your own TGAs.

    Enjoy.

  10. Improved Gameworld Appearance

I occasionally tinker with lighting and textures to make the TW gameworld look more realistic. This small pack was developed to improve Gterl's WW1 Italy game map, but should also work with most any other SF or FE game map.

Most of the changes are located in the FLIGHT folder, whose contents are largely the work of Quack74. All I did was alter the light levels to better simulate "high noon" - the standard game settings are too dark and murky for bright sunshine.

I also lightened and dulled Jan Tuma's tree art so forests don't look like dark green blobs. The new art files Stromy, Stromy2, Stromy3, and TEROBJECT_TREE S1 replace the equivalents in the WW1 Italy folder.

Finally, the increased light levels can make some aircraft appear too shiny. A sample texture set ini file is included with reduced glossyness settings - see first shot of Sea Gladiator (facing away from camera). 0.000 equals no gloss whatsoever.

    Specular=0.200
    Glossiness=0.200
    Reflection=0.100

  11. CR42 (1940) Graphics Pack

The graphics pack contains all the .psd files used to make the CR42 skins. In addition to templates and skin art, there are numerous squadron insignia for CR42 units that were deployed in 1940 Libya. There is also selection of different squadron number styles, plus Belgian and Hungarian national insignia. Note these images are BIG - they are sized to fit the hi-res artwork. Modders who like to make decals can experiment to see if large, hi-res decals are feasible. If not, the numerous overlays can be painted into the skin artwork.

  12. CR42 (1940)

Updated files to reflect user inputs - see change log. The SAVE SELECTION AS CHANNEL button in my copy of Photoshop has stopped working, so I cannot fix the bullet holes alpha channel problem. I have placed the _Holes files in the Graphics Pack. If you can make your own .tga files with alpha channel, just drop the resulting four .tga files into the CR42_1 folder.

    **************************************************************************************************************************************************************

The CR42 was Italy's most numerous fighter in 1940, and fought over North and East Africa, plus briefly in the Battle of Britain. Export versions operated in the Battle of France (Belgium) and on the Eastern Front (Hungary). Immensely strong, its license-built Pratt & Whitney engine drove a license-built Hamilton-Standard constant speed propeller, giving the CR42 a performance edge over Allied biplanes in early WW2.

This is the first of many 1930s aircraft intended for FE/FE2. The planned selection of aircraft will cover the early desert war in North Africa and also the Spanish Civil War. Whenever appropriate, an SF2 version will also be developed for Baffmeister's BoB mod.

A number of modders have assisted me in developing this aircraft, particularly Stephen1918. Additional thanks to Wrench, Baffmeister, Sully, gambit168, Nixou, and Viper63a. I've probably forgotten someone - if so, my apologies.

Special thanks to professional illustrator Jim Laurier for use of his instrument art for the cockpit.

The only known problem is the extended take off run - once in the air, no other problems have been observed. When Baffmeister returns in the autumn, he said he will tweak the FM a bit more to his satisfaction.

The current FM lists the CR42 as a German aircraft so it will drop into most First Eagles' mods. You can change the nationality by opening the CR42_DATA.ini and editing the first two lines of the Mission Data listings.

  14. Halberstadt D5

This aircraft is an all-new model, with hi-res skins. The D5 was basically a cleaned up D3. The upper wing structure was revised with a simpler strut system that improved pilot visibility, and the exhaust system was simplified. The D5 had provision for two Spandau machine guns, but usually just one was installed on the left side (to save weight). The D5's structure was very strong for its day, but the 120 hp engine was not powerful enough to match the performance of Albatross fighters so only fifty-seven D5s were built.

A separate graphics pack will be posted soon, containing textures and templates.

To install, unzip the contents to a new folder.

For FE/FEG: I don't have them so I don't know how to install these files. If you run FE/FEG and have trouble loading these files, post a question in the First Eagles section here at Combat Ace - someone should help you.

    For FE2:
Copies of three ini files - ENVIRONMENTSYSTEM, SOUNDLIST, VIEWLIST - go in your FLIGHT folder.
A copy of the HalberstadtD5 folder goes in your OBJECTS/AIRCRAFT folder.
A copy of the Pilots folder goes in your OBJECTS folder.
A copy of the SOUNDS folder goes in your First Eagles 2 folder (alongside FLIGHT, OBJECTS, etc)

There is a long list of guys who helped me produce this aircraft, or posted stuff that I used to complete the package:
    - Stephen1918
    - Ojcar
    - gambit168
    - Sully
    - Southside Bucky
    - Nixou
    - Viper63a

I've probably forgotten someone - if so, my apologies. Enjoy!

  15. Industrial Objects

This pack contains a variety of large, medium, and small industrial objects - plus two urban housing blocks. They were originally developed at the request of FE map makers so their appearance is typical of WW1. Wrench then pointed out that they could also be used for other maps - 1930s, WW2, and even parts of the Cold War. A modest selection of complimentary 1930s civilian vehicles is in development, and will be added in the future.

  16. Fortification Objects

This pack contains a wide selection of fortifications. Some of them, like the Austrian Fort, are enormous and are WW1-specific, but there is also a selection of WW2 Atlantic Wall fortifications, so modders can construct defenses for most any period. The fortifications constructed from concrete, masonry, etc have damage models but the simple trenches have no damage models. I was unable to convincingly design a damage model that replaced one pile of dirt for another.

There are six straight trench sections for each major WW1 power, with an appropriate machine gun - Lewis (British), Maxim (German, Russian), French (Hotchkiss), etc. Hopefully, modders can deploy existing figures behind the straight trench walls. For grins and giggles, there is also a zig-zag trench section that more-or-less matches the trench sections of a 1024 FE terrain tile. The straight trench sections are generic enough to also be used in most any other period, even VietNam.

None of the guns work, they are simply stage props. But if someone wants to massage files to make the guns operable, contact me and we will discuss the job.

My thanks to the map makers - Quack74, gterl, Steven1918, Wrench - for their inputs. If I've forgotten anyone, my apologies - contact me and I'll add your name.

    Enjoy.

Rev1: Fixed the missing art for Fort-12 - thanks to KJakker for spotting that. Also renamed the multiple Fort-4 LODs for correct right/left orientation.

  17. Final Martinsyde G.100

This is the final update of the Martinsyde G.100, thanks to Stephen1918 who tweaked the files. The bomb racks now only show when the plane is carrying bombs, the prop spins, sample decals have been added for anyone who wants to make his own markings, and revised installation instructions have been added - all due to Stephen1918's efforts. Thanks, Steve.

I mistakenly attached the files for the G.102 to this upload - when released by CA, it will now have the correct G.100 files.

  18. Martinsyde G.102

The Martinsyde G.102 was a G.100 aircraft with a more powerful 160 hp Beardmore engine, which gave it slightly better performance. Again I could not have produced this upload without the patient help from Stephen1918, ocjar, gterl, and Wrench. Thanks, guys.

  19. FE AA Objects

Steven1918 and I have put together a comprehensive collection of WW1 anti-aircraft guns. A noteworthy feature is, for the first time, a selection of medium-level 37/40mm auto cannons that bridge the gap between low-level MGs and high-level 75mm AA cannons. The Maxim 37/40mm auto cannon, dubbed the "pom-pom" by the Brits, was used in various versions by all the major powers and was still in limited service early in WW2. Pom-poms will significantly affect a gamer's experience when flying below 5,000 feet, and could motivate a gamer to replay old campaigns - especially if he used to like balloon-busting. Now that balloons can be realistically defended, he may not like balloon-busting anymore.

In addition to the pom-poms, there are multiple types of AA MGs. Also included are two types of optional gun pits: a C-shaped pit intended for use with AA guns, and a U-shaped pit intended for use with artillery, plus balloon winches for the major powers.

  21. 1930s Ground And Terrain Objects

Kudos to Wrench! He massaged the basic elements I sent him, and created a complete DL ready to drop into your game folders. He set it up for SF2 but it should work OK for FE2. As usual, pay attention to the ReadMe. This pack does not include airfield figures - they are still in-work so a separate pack will be released when they are complete. The floor of the large hangar is a separate object, similar to the parking ramp. Hopefully, you can tweak the height and angle of these objects if you encounter problems with a game map that is not completely flat and level.
