Remove slime light
daddyairplanes replied to RustyKurnass's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
caution about that: check that removing the node wont leave a hole. the slime lights are generally luminescent parts of the model not lights that can be turned off. found that out the hard way with the RF-4B -

as i first heard it, replace Army guy with 2LT and Air Force guy with First Sergeant oddly brings back memories of Balad in Iraq 2005. AF rotated every 4 months, while Army was waiting to hear if they would be extended from a year to 15 months. for this story the newest batch of AF arrived around mid Aug, and we (Army) were on month 10. See, EOD would do a command detonation of all the items found that go boom every day at 1100. People would gather waiting for chow starting at around 1050. So about 50 new AF guys are waiting early as they arent settled into their new jobs yet. me and my buddy are talking and BOOM!!!! Glance at watch, its 1059. Alls well. we keep talking four 10 more seconds and realize all the AF guys are gone. ?!?!?!?!? then, some senior airman (lotta stripes on sleeve) peeks out of the bunker and yells that we need to get in the bunker. "Why, its just a command det" my buddy yells back Big Chief Airman says " you dont know that! Policy is to get in the bunker!" 5 seconds after he says this, camp loudspeakers come on and announce "This is Big Voice, Controlled Det is complete. Big Voice out" Interestingly, they moved faster than the Vipers taking off to get in the bunker, but slower than molasses to get out, and weren't in country long enough to be that red yet!

bit off topic, but Gepard reminds me of something. i noticed one of my last times through Germany (Leipzig airport 2011 to be exact) that the younger crowd was not to friendly to Americans, even though most we tried interacting with were working cash registers (ie working customer service) and several of us who had been stationed there years before spoke enough Deutsche to ask how much for a coke or cigarettes. Acted positively deaf to that. 5 minutes later, i go outside and find an older lady smoking and ask "hast du ein zigaretten bitte?" (its been a few years, my spelling is probably off). She was quite happy that i could ask auf Deutsche and hooked me up and tried to have a conversation. again, hadnt lived there in over eight years at that point so conversation didnt go far but the older crowd seems friendlier to Americans in general, even the osties. and no, this isnt to open a political can of worms. when i was stationed there in late 90s, early 00s there was a marked difference between the politics between nations and the interactions between people. seems the new generations are not keeping it separate back on topic: haven't you watched the news the last year Dave? its a trap!

are skin templates part of your specification for the project? good luck and i hope this works out for you and the contractor. if it works out and is good , said contractor may want to consider a side business like Razbam had and yunped tried -

USAF Anti-Ship Weapons
daddyairplanes replied to JSF_Aggie's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
only USAF anti ship action anywhere around that time was the Mayaguez incident (May 75) and F-111s and A-7s out of Thailand used mainly 20 mm and regular bombs, although it was a hostage situation as well and they were trying not to kill the folks they were trying to rescue (most was fired in fromt of the boats to get tehm to stop). AC-130s were used as well, and a 105mm cannon in direct fire mode will stop pretty much anything smaller than a frigate and unable to fire back. Maverick would have been able to be used against smaller ships, although getting in range of the missile and out of range of air defences could be an issue. i recall reading something in a book years ago talking about the Navy's part of the SIOP being to take out soviet ports,on account of professional associates doing business with each other. i would think the same principle would apply to most anti ship missions. that is "let the Navy handle that, we'll help with the ground war." All else fails, in game i prefere to go against the Soviet battle groups off Iceland with a pair of Buffs lugging SRAMs. tends to work without losing any of my own guys! -

7 weeks until my oldest is no longer a high school student. then two more months til she moves about 50 miles away to her college. round here, just the usual turn of the wheel. got the bright idea to revamp ODS (yes again), only took a month and a half to see bickering on the thread on a similar topic, would be appreciated to pick yer brain on Buffs and Stratotankers as they were in the 80s. have some things going for ODS Buffs and tankers from 1973 through 1994 . an area i think you have some expertise in

i'm looking at teh world political climate (and aircraft availability) in 2012. even the US would have had a more limited presence at that time (given the boss at teh time), although more in the tanker and ISR field (where really no one can match us. look at the main contributions over Libya same timeframe) but i see England and France being very active in there. who says its just the US making grabs for oil? in the end tho, its your mod. As Bob Ross said, " This is your world, You’re the creator " -

i know you can set experience level of pilots in the nations ini (excellent to poor, or super highly trained vs "glorious Leader says that way is forward" while pointing at the exhausts). can this be set in the campaigns as well? if so make the IRIAF excellent and the coalition forces average at best. also if an alternate is created in say 2019 through 2021 new jets would not be far off. IIRC the nuke deal lifted sanctions that would prevent new weapons from being bought next year. More likely, China and Russia would sell some new toys just to get cash while giving the US the finger (and why wouldnt the bad kids in the sanction corner start to play together? what'll happen more sanctions?) final thought on it: everyone commanding a military now was watching CNN in 1990/91. They wouldnt let a huge coalition build so have smaller coalition forces and trim some of the high end birds off the roster (F-35, possibly F-22) as well as most of the Europeans and Aussies. BUT include the Saudis, UAE and Kuwait, who are local and very distrustful of Iran. Possibly include Yemen as Iranian ally while your at it. -
Upgrade for ODS...calling modders new and old
daddyairplanes replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
well some form of improvement pack will get released. if it can be with a new terrain, it would be awesome. if it just adds in new aircraft, ground objects and skins so be it. as said in the beginning, i wasnt looking to release until january next year, with a cut off for additions of december. i would prefer a team effort, especially of the newer folks just getting started modding or who are considering starting. I figured this might be a good way to get some out there off the bench, the infighting doesnt help that. -
Upgrade for ODS...calling modders new and old
daddyairplanes replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
to weigh in (as I started this thread) my general intention is not 100% accuracy. we dont have all the things released or due to game limitations to be 100%. BUT, as it is i would say it is currently around 55% accurate. no Forrestal class (model needed), the heavy aircraft were almost all in the 2000s colors (mostly fixed by me), there were almost no helos (yakarovs brought us a long way). there are many piecemeal improvements that would tweak ODS. i'm trying to take it from F-4s as Migs (Iron Eagle 2 if you dont get teh reference) to Casa 2.111s and Buchons as Luftwaffe aircraft, with Spitfires as available (Battle of Britain). Also by design and intent, there is a while to go before wrapping this burrito together so we can get as many authentic ingredients together as possible. but substitutions will be made as needed Wrench, Menrva, FRPignon i appreciate all that all 3 of you have done in creating the virtual worlds for us to fly over. However i will also admit to being one of the ones that appreciates how good the individual sites look without noticing how they are placed in relation to each other. not anyones dad so not gonna say "come on guys stop" but i will ask did anyone PM anyone else before the public drama? -

if you use gimp, get your numbers list made up, then make your first one. export the file, and then backspace and do the next. even if you go away but leave that window active, you can double click into the text and after answering that yes you want to edit go on the same as before. the first one that can be a pain due to lining it up, the rest should go fairly quickly. and no, im not volunteering mandatory screenie: set to the tune of Long Tall Sally as in Predator -
An important question....
daddyairplanes replied to timetraveler71's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
while that is true (i was suspecting but couldnt recall, iirc it takes editing by coordinates on EACH airfield. you cant just say spawn=ramp, it has to be spawnpoint = 190.893,986.990 or something similar. over several iterations per terrain. dont get me wrong, like Eames said in the movie about inception, "No its not impossible. Its just bloody difficult," its why I havent exactly moved on enlarging parking spaces on ramps yet so airliner tails dont intertwine -

TMF Boeing 707-300 Comprehensive Skinpack This mod will replace the individual skins for the TMF 707 and adds my multi airline skins to it, covering the eras from the early 1960s until the late 1980s and will add some eye candy to your parking ramps or make for interesting intercept and escort targets INSTALLATION This is only a skin pack with some additional items. First you will need the original located here: then unzip and add this mod as well. allow overwrites. You can delete the previous skins if you want, as they are represented in the skin pack IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN NATIONS.INI, ADD FROM THE GIVEN TEXT FILE. This is for heavily modded installs INCLUDED Decal sets covering most major users from 1959 until 1989 Skins to cover that time period in 9 blocks, with bare metal base skins Nations and Formations ini for the "Airline" nation KNOWN ISSUES Number 1: THIS THING IS BIG! the fuselage tgas are 2048x2048 (working with details over an entire fuselage rather than basic colors and curves) and the biggest sets are representing 32 airlines in their era! So this is not for the small of HDD space Number 2: Due to quirks in the model, and ease for the modder it is not 100% aligned as in RL. the cabin windows are a little lower (which allowed the logos to go one easier), and the curves tend to stop short of the radome. Number 3: this uses the Herc pit to be flyable. I ad it to be able to check the decals, but leave it for those that may want to use it. The pit is a piss poor match however, both with frames blocking and the higher tech than available even into the 80s for civilian birds It is meant as eye candy, not operational missions. Number 4: due to the size of things, some of the lettering is not to legible when you get close to it. Again, eye candy, its meant to be seen from the runway when taking off or on an intercept. If your that close to see "hey it really is fuzzy" you will probably collide. Besides, the thing is huge as is at teh current tga size UNSOLICTED ADVICE I am one of those that likes all encompassing mods. If you have a certain era you would rather focus on, by all means delete the other eras that you don't need. Again this thing is huge, but covers almost every user from 1959 through 1989. CREDITS aircraft model - TMF, BPAo tga, bare metal skin, ini work - daddyairplanes original game -TK test team -allenjb42, Nightshade/PR, yakarov79. they caught a huge tho buried mistake, so many thanks to you guys! Thank you for downloading this mod and i hope you enjoy Kevin Unruh (daddyairplanes) 8 April 2018 -
An important question....
daddyairplanes replied to timetraveler71's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
without heavy ini and graphical editing, no. assuming that you are talking starting on the parking apron and taxiing to the runway, no the game doesnt do that if you are talking an actual platform, that is where you would need to ini edit the placement of things, and tile the airbase to have a platform visually at the head of the normal runway. coulf be done, but a big big hassle one thing this brings to mind is to create an oil platform, but as an aircraft carrier in game, and have a landing platform on that. easier than option 2, but still takes 3d modelling skills -

you know, I always figured a "true" Dhimari history to mirror Saudi Arabia and Kuwait loosely, esp. in using British kit until the 60s-70s. Besides, Hunters would have done better in the desert than Huns
