Older Aircraft bombing question
daddyairplanes replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
in earlier generation fighters bombing was something of a black art esp in combat conditions. Tiseo equipped ARN-101 Phantoms got their CEP down to a decent amount and the advertised practice in the 4th TFW was to compensated when dropping dumb iron to use 750lb bombs so the blast radius overlapped the CEP of the bomb delivery! another example is when i attack airfields post '72 i load Mavericks to defend against AAA/Sams and 6 retarded bombs to string down the length of the runway doing just below the Mach. Slarti hass a good point with the ranges for practice. me, i'm not justifying the cost of munitions to higher HQ and dont really die if shot down so i practice in real world. just personal preference in tactics developed over time. find what works and stick to it.... -

placeholders duh!(smacks forehead) told you my mind was mush from finals right now Dhimar is much more likely to fit in that plan i think than what was originally put in above. as you said Spinners did decals for it already and TK has put in quite a few units already. found that out adding other US Naval Aviation squadrons in, esp the Marines. still got VF-101/171 in there though(long planned addition). finally for the nations most with air arms are in there those several signifigant ones need to be added (US Army, Dhimar AF). dunno bout standardized but maybe just added onto -

sorry i took so long guys, i'm wrapping up summer semester and the group project has been kickin me arse. here is progress so far, mainly filling in naval units and potential DLC units and then adding my tactical Phantom users. anyone with Royal Navy units and New Zealand units i would appreciate spot checking that they show up, the USN/USMC units show just fine. Key West dets are added for any Cuba oriented mods(VF-101KW and 171KW). won't get much more done until after next Wed (finals, wife surgery, kids 1st day back to school) though first part of Aug i should be able to churn out alot in my 2 week hiatus in school. my game plan for the rest to 999 is... 636-699 USAF/ANG 700-749 RAF 750-799 French AF 800-839 Danish AF 840-859 Luftwaffe 860-879 Belgium 880-899 Netherlands 900-949 US Army 950-999 Units not covered in DLC's (Swedes and Japan already have stock entries)and any various to fill space. focus for all units above will be users of stock planes at first except US Army which will focus on attack aviation. i'm going ahead to try to get to 999 so i can then see if we can continue through 1000. dunno if anyone has tried it but if it works...... then Dave i will not overthink and go crazy! -
cool i was in 1/6. humble lil old cook but you know there aint no thing as just a cook in combat arms!

prob my only contribution this weekend as i am at drill, but why not a light and Heavy packages? simple ini edits, rwr and such as a base to enhance and possibly build future mods off of, and a heavy with planes and such to add what TK hasn't for the stock game years (56-82). keep it inline with the stock campaigns but adding say the A-6B and F-105G for SAM suppresion. also i know Dave said go crazy AND dont over think it. but would there be interest in adding say 50 Transport squadrons in the squadronlist? already plane to do some US Army attack BNs (Vietnam and Germany dontcha know) -

why not both and HR had less non stock squadrons decals than i thought (only 36 versus all 80 some units most were in the stock unit list) so i putz'd with it and finished before reading your response. however that is a cool tip. Dave would it be possible to link that to the KB? -

HR how does this trick work? i have around 75 decals in each of three folders to work with so any cheat i can learn is appreciated. as for numbering no worries i have plenty of ideas to fill in gaps here and there. ANG units, VFs VA's VMFA's etc. would be cool if i can just bump my Phantom mod from 4xx for the nonstock squadrons too 6xx and not worry bout it though. my current method has been a royal PITA! -

ok then. at the hospital but its more making sure something wasnt missed than oh crap bleeding emergency. i will post my Phantoms after your naval units, and prob back date some naval units into 501-550. any navy there are several in the nations.ini. but priorty to USN, USMC and RN in that order. was gonna have to reorder the nums on my TGAs anyhow just made the job bigger! -

HR. i'm now convinced that to get what we need on a deployment, Army units need to email the unit ahead of them to request the stuff. and thats the radip system! still got a bunch of cool stuff over the years from the warehouse just cause "that unit left "... back on topic will start mergeing inis tonight. will put your squadrons first at 501, then add my Phantoms (looks like it'll start round 532) going to 572. then as Dave says time to go crazy. when this is all over Dave starts the wrap party by announcing pawn jumps queen! -

cool on the leaving blank, gonna try it hopefully tonight (damn the honey do list!! ) as for the number sequence, i think that will cover us for about 1-2 years at the rate Tk has been adding units of late. and by then we will likely have something completely different cooking. despite "two weeks" this is CA, not the DOD procurement process! things change quick.. -

hey thought on the place holder numbers.... it lists display names and goes alphabetical in the squadron dropdown in the menu.... i've been moving each batch of numbers(and associated tgas) to the end of the line with every patch that changes the squadron list. however (and please tell me if im wrong here) i could copy stock units as place holders, change num's to the 401-500 range (plenty of room for growth) and have the disply names as say "zuluplaceholder001-099" so it shows in the menu at the bottom. replace with new unit listings as TK pops em in. whaddaya think? and Malibu43, weren't you the one to post about capitalization and Uncle Jacks horse? -
impressive howitzer, though i'm still partial to Palidans myself(might be the 3 years spent in a FA battalion in the Big Red One) how ever i cant help but notice most drill teams are just fine with small arms in their drills

thanks for the addition. i have a hefty start with my personal one that also lists most every tactical user of the F-4, and figured after my 999 endstate i might wanna stop at 899 to give TK room to grow! however there is still alot to add... -

ok well i can hit up Europe very well. i NEED community pointers for any asian conflict units other than usaf or it will get ignored. after ANG and NATO air arms could possibly go round the world but again NEED some input in case i get to the magic 999 mark. crazyhorse, there is such a mod. its called an off button for your monitor/ or laptop. besides you aint amused reading the complaints round here? almost as funny as listening to soldiers gripe.... -

well thought on it during math class (quadratic equations are proving rather easy for me )and i think best route will be to check stock player flyables for skins w/o units (again ie the Danes) and then add em on like my Phantoms. USAF units i'll leave be, but would we want to add Air National Gaurd TFS's? if so i'm half way on that. due to my own projects and RL i would just hit the squadronlist in a manner similar to my own. nice thing is i keep the non stock squadrons seperate so when TK adds units, i just shift those units to the back of the line and adjust my decals accordingly. as a SWAG call it additional 90-110 units. but any input on ANG units? btw by leaving USAF units alone i mean 7TFS will mean 7th FBS, 7th TFS and 7th FS. -

i have so much better framerates since upgrading my laptop that any talk of framerates in stock game are more suggestive to what i observe than perhaps the actual performance bump/loss. however desert terrains(IsrealME, Desert, ODS and the Range) always seem to put a hurt performance back in April/May timeframe but i've been to busy the last month to reinstall ODS or the Range and try it out. overall all seems to be ok in Europe and NA other than NA's usual overland FPS drop. -

true on the 6 GB download bringing everyone to the party.... maybe just add squadrons for those with stock skins but no unit representation(like the Danes esp. with F-100D and F-104G). US units would be nice but era presents a problem(7th FBS, 7th TFS, 7th FS etc.) -

well if its a realism mod, it would be nice for all the historical NATO units to join the party as one example( i do primarily fly in game in Europe dontchya know) and thank you Dave but my squadronlist would be mostly for SF2:Phantoms!(soon with greek, turkish and complete USN/USMC listings!) and finally malibu43, though i did it in my readme, again much thanks for your Maverick loadout for the A-10's. it also works on Phantoms and is much more historical due to wieght/drag concerns. and isn't that the point of this all? -

one thing on squadronlists, they can be so big per theater that we may want to make one per Vietnam, Germany, Isreal and North Atlantic. just think of all the squadrons in Germany alone if you bring all NATO in....... -
