HPW Vertical Stabilizer Fix for HITR 1.0 View File Hey guys and gal(s): This mod corrects a few minor oversights in the .xdp files for a couple of old and new aircraft in the HITR expansion pack from OBD Software. As such, this mod is meant to be used on stock installations of the HITR expansion only, and on no other version of the game. Over the weekend I will release an update of my QC DM which will also contain the fixes contained in this mod. HPW_HITR_DM_1.1
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - File Announcements
Hi Morris. Still working on it. I'm still tweaking some aircraft and making some small changes in others. For instance, I found the Spad XIII's wings to still be too weak and so have strengthened them a bit. I will probably add an update to the QC mod first and then get around to releasing a campaign version in another week or so. Of course, you can help out by d/l my QC version first and letting me know what you think of it and if you find any problems--hint, hint! HPW -

To more accurately simulate reality, on occasion we should fly the campaign when hung-over, or just after a fight or break-up with a loved one, as I'm sure happened in real life with the actual pilots. Speaking of which, do any of you role-play as if you are angry or in mourning about the death of a wingman or close personal friend stuck in the trenches? I imagine the good pilots managed to maintain a fairly level head about them at all times, whereas the lesser pilots may have let their feelings get the best of them--for better or worse.

Flying the "new" SPAD XIII

Flying the "new" SPAD XIII
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Lately I've been test flying the Spad for my DM, so I thought I'd pop in and give my observations about the current FM of the Spad XIII.... I agree with almost all of the above comments about the "new" flight model. With the old FM, flying the Spad was no fun at all for me. Previously, I could barely make a 30 degree banked turn without getting into a vicious stall. Combined with its high stall speed, I couldn't even stay in the air. Now, with the reduced stall speed, even 45 degree or more turns are possible as long as you keep the turn short. You still have to keep constant watch on your air speed, however. Just as the Spad rapidly gains speed in a dive, it loses speed very fast in any kind of a tight turn. I've found that another key to flying the Spad is to use only a little rudder while in the turn. Too much and you corkscrew into a spin. Fortunately, the spin is much less vicious than before, and you can easily recover as long as you have enough height so you can regain your air speed. OTOH, applying just a little rudder in the direction of your turn can also help you to gain precious air speed if you feel you are in danger of stalling. Actually, my favorite way to quickly turn a Spad is to roll over into a wing-over and reverse direction, cutting far inside the turn of the opposing aircraft. This often puts you on the enemy's tail in fairly short order because of your superior climb rate and speed. With the old FM, I couldn't even stay in the air. Now, I am able to engage in dogfights and even win on occasion. Me likey! -

I have now corrected the mod so that you can easily backup your standard HITR DM before installing the mod. Here are the revised installation instructions: I apologize for the error in version 1.0 and hope no one messed up their installation as a result. You may find the new version of the mod here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10663

HPW_HITR_DM_1.1 View File H.P.W. QC Damage Model for OFF BHaH HITR v1.1 Beta by Herr Prop Wasche Zip file contents: aircraft folder with 47 .xdp files HITR_xdp_Backup.bat Restore_HITR_DM.bat HPW_HITR_DM_1.1_ReadMe.txt Thank you for downloading version 1.0 of my QC damage model for Hat in the Ring, the fantastic extension to Between Heaven and Hell, the already wonderful WWI flight sim modification of CFS3 by OBD Software. Like my previous damage mods, this mod is intended to enhance some of the visual damage effects already in the game. Depending upon the aircraft and the severity of the damage, aircraft should now be more likely to display not only bullet holes, but also rips and tears, oil and coolant leaks, exposed wing spars, and broken wing tips. Although entire wings may still break off at the root, the mod is intended to slightly reduce the frequency of this event. In addition, while all of the aircraft engines in the game have been made slightly more resistant to early damage, when severely damaged they are somewhat more likely to catch on fire and even explode! Finally, both your pilot and your AI opponent are slightly more vulnerable to becoming wounded--perhaps fatally! Although I have worked for a long time implementing and testing these changes and am very proud of the results, keep in mind that this release is only a BETA. Therefore, kindly report any strange behavior or unusual results that you may come across. I am particularly interested in the behavior of the new planes introduced in the HITR expansion, as well as the behavior of the Nieuport and Albatros series of aircraft. You should quickly notice that these planes do not perform quite like you are used to seeing them perform with the standard damage model. Lastly, I would again like to express my thanks and appreciation to OBD Software for their help and encouragement in the making of this damage mod. Of course, with the exception of the minor tweaks contained in this damage model, all work remains the sole work and property of OBD Software. If you have any questions or experience any problems with the installation of this mod, you can reach me at www.combatace.com at the Over Flanders Field forum. Thank you and I hope you enjoy the mod! INSTALLATION: Important! Backup your HITR .xdp files first! Backup your HITR .xdp files by first copying the HITR_xdp_Backup.bat file to your OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder and then clicking on it to run the program. After you have backed up your .xdp files, extract the entire contents of the HPW_HITR_DM_1.1.zip file to the OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. DO NOT unzip the file into the aircraft folder itself! If prompted, simply click "Yes to all" when asked if you wish to replace files. If at any time you wish to return to the stock HITR damage model (for either campaign or MP use), simply click the Restore_HITR_DM.bat file included in the zip file and automatically placed in your OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. In order to re-apply the mod, simply re-open the HPW_HITR_DM_1.1.zip file and extract the aircraft folder to the OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. NOTE: This mod is currently intended to be used in QC battles ONLY. If you use the mod in the campaign, only YOUR plane will have the modified damage model. All AI aircraft will still be using the stock damage model. A damage model for all of the airplanes in the campaign will be released (hopefully) in the very near future. Good news! I have just uploaded the mod and it should be available on the 3rd party download forum in a few hours. Keep in mind that the mod is currently designed for QC battles only and is still only a BETA. I hope to have a campaign version soon, but only after I get some feedback regarding the QC mod. NOTICE: MOD TEMPORARILY WITHDRAWN DUE TO FAILURE TO INCLUDE FILE TO BACKUP ORIGINAL DM FILES! I hope to have a corrected mod available later today or tomorrow. My apologies to anyone who may have already installed the mod.

I've always been an nVidia user, not because I am a fanboi, but because the cards always seemed to give the best bang for the buck (or pound, euro, etc). Lately, however, nVidia seems to have had some quality control problems, along with buggy drivers. Time to consider an ATI card for my next purchase...
-
If you have an nVidia graphics card, DO NOT install the 196.75 driver update! Some users of other games have reported that the new drivers have a glitch which disables the graphics card fan, causing some cards to overheat and die! nVidia has withdrawn the latest drivers from their website. Here is their announcement: I have an EVGA card, and they recommend going back to the 196.21 drivers which you can obtain from nVidia's website. To enable overclocking, also download the latest update to EVGA's Precision O/C utility (v1.9.1).

Outstanding! Great video, Jammer. Very nice the way you synchronized the dramatic moments with the music from the USAF band. Now, is anyone up to the challenge to produce a video from the perspective of a pilot from the Central Powers?

Yes, I am running XP and am using DirectX 9.0c with the February update. No problems so far! I now yield the floor... -
Slartibartfast--Did you have a chance to fly either the Spitfire or the Hurrie? What other aircraft did you fly? Please describe, if you can, what it was like to fly any of these air-beaters!

Win7-64 system Fixed
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Luther1517's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
This update is dated February 2010, so anyone who hasn't updated DirectX recently will probably also want to get this update. Olham--I believe they have updates for both users of 9.0c as well as 11. NVidia users may also be interested that they have released new video drivers this week. -
Another update and a small bump. Still testing and tweaking the DM. The last major hurdle is getting the wings of the Nieuport's and Albatross' series correct so that the lower wings are hard for the enemy to shoot off, but still come off when overstressed by the pilot. Generally, if the wings shred from overstress, they can also be easily shot off; but if they can't be shot off, they also can't be overstressed. However, I think I am making progress with this problem. Another problem is that some airplane wings do not display much visual damage until they totally fail. The DH2 is a prime example of this. Sometimes I can pump round after round into the wings of a DH2 with little visible effect until the wing suddenly departs the fuselage! In general, the wings on the DH2 seem to be tougher than the wings of comparable aircraft. Has anyone else seen this? I could probably keep tweaking until I get everything just right, but then I might never release the mod. OTOH, I could release now, even while some glitches remain. What is everyone's preference?

12o'clock--I enjoy playing Silent Hunter III as well. In fact, until BHaH came out, that was about the only computer game I was playing. Not to hijack a thread, but I assume you have heard about the release of SH5 in about a week? The community over at subsim.com is in a huge uproar about the DRM scheme Ubisoft has slapped onto the product. Seems to play you have to have a constant online connection to Ubisoft's servers, similar to the one that existed on ROF when it came out. Many people have stated they will refuse to buy SH5 unless the DRM is removed. Also, the periscope interface has been seriously dumbed down and looks like something out of Windows 7 rather than an authentic U-boat.

Well, I have finally finished making all of my changes to the .xdp files of all of the QC airplanes. After I do a little more testing, I will upload the mod for others to evaluate. Keep in mind that this will be a BETA version for use in QC only, so expect a bit of oddness. Please report anything that strikes you as unusual or unrealistic, here. Ideally, the mod will make most of the aircraft a little more sturdy in certain areas, and a little weaker in other areas. My ultimate goal (when the full campaign mod is released) is to make most of the aircraft a little easier to cripple, but somewhat more difficult to fully destroy. Hopefully, this will increase the survivability of both human and AI pilots, as I think it is currently a bit too bloody out there, IMO.

Thanks for the explanation, Pol. However, I still can't understand how OFF can track AI aircraft position, shots fired, craft downed, etc. if the CFS3 engine doesn't track anything about your AI, as you seemed to indicate in your above post. BH makes a good point and possible suggestion. If there is any way to link the AI pilot name with the ID number in the mission report, then we could at least manually track the fate of our squad mates. I can certainly live with the random deaths--it's easy to die in a war zone, after all!
