  1. NEWS BULLETIN!! Updated News Files Available! I have just now finished revising and updating the news reports files for the years 1917 and 1918. A couple of minor mistakes were corrected, along with the addition of some new content. Files for the years 1915 and 1916 will be released next. Installation: Simply download the two attached files below and copy them into your OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData\News folder. Backup your existing News19**.txt files by renaming them to something like "stockNews191*.txt" and then delete the word "English" from the front of the filename you have just downloaded. If you wish to go back to the original files, simply add the word "English" back onto the downloaded filename and remove the word "stock" from the old filename. You can use Creaghorn's news mod for German campaigns and mine for non-German campaigns by following the same basic set of instructions.
  2. Better late than never! Be kind, Unc. I am but a one man operation. Seriously, a lot more testing went into this version than the last, so it took a bit more time. I'll try to be more punctual next time.
  3. I don't think you need to delete your .bdp files as long as you make sure to completely exit and restart OFF after installing the mod. To check, install the mod and fly one mission. Then, go into the aircraft folder and open any of the aircraft files. As long as the time stamp on the .bdp file is later than the time stamp on the .xdp file you should be good to go. If not, let me know and I will post a .bat file to take care of any pesky, left-over bdp's.
  4. It's up! Version 1.0 of the HPW HITR Campaign DM is ready for download here: http://forum.combata...-campaigndm-10/

Backup your HITR .xdp files first! Backup your HITR .xdp files by first copying the HITR_Backup_XDPs.bat file to your OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder and then clicking on it to run the program. DO NOT unzip the file into the aircraft folder itself! If prompted, simply click "Yes to all" when asked if you wish to replace files. If at any time you wish to return to the stock HITR damage model, simply click the Restore_HITRXDPs.bat file included in the zip file and automatically placed in your OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. In order to re-apply the mod, simply re-open the HPW_HITR_CampaignDM_1.0.zip file and extract the aircraft folder to the OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. NOTE: This mod is intended to be used in BOTH QC battles and the main campaign. ------------ Thank you for downloading version 1.0 of my Full Campaign damage model for Hat in the Ring, the official extension to Between Heaven and Hell, the already wonderful WWI flight sim modification of CFS3 by OBD Software. In addition to including .xdp files for all of the aircraft in the HITR campaign, this new version of the mod includes many additional tweaks (based on play-testing) made to the .xdp files since the release of the QC version. In particular, hit point values for many of the engines have been adjusted, along with wing root values for several planes, including but not limited to, all versions of Albatross, Nieuports, Spads, and many two-seaters. Minor corrections to the .xdp files for the Bristol Scout, DFW CV, Nieuport 24, and Nieuport 28 have also been included with this mod. Overall, my intention with this damage model is two-fold: to slightly toughen up most of the airplane models in the game in order to slightly prolong dog-fights and to provide the human player with more visible signs of damage so he or she may choose to make their escape and live (hopefully) to fight another day! Depending upon the aircraft and the severity of the damage, aircraft should now be more likely to display not only bullet holes, but also rips and tears, oil and coolant leaks, exposed wing spars, and broken wing tips. Although entire wings may still break off at the root, the mod is intended to slightly reduce the frequency of this event. While all of the aircraft engines in the game have also been made slightly more resistant to early damage, when severely damaged they are somewhat more likely to catch on fire and even explode! Oil and coolant leaks should also be more likely to occur. Finally, both your pilot and your AI opponent are slightly more vulnerable to becoming wounded--perhaps even fatally! I would again like to express my thanks and appreciation to OBD Software for their help and encouragement in the making of this damage mod. Of course, with the exception of the tweaks contained in this damage model, all work remains the sole work and property of OBD software. If you have any questions or experience any problems with the installation of this mod, you can reach me at www.combatace.com at the Over Flanders Field forum. Thank you and I hope you enjoy the mod! 7. Pending approval, I am pleased to announce that my Herr Prop-Wasche HITR Campaign Damage Model 1.0 will soon be ready to download in the 3rd party mods section of the forum. From the readme: Please be sure to let me know what you think about the mod and to report any questions or problems about use or installation. HPW
  8. When my Dad turned 40 he had a bit of a mid-life crisis and bought a '68 Mustang hard top. The car was a piece of junk, but boy, 380 some horses was the schit! Unfortunately, he SOLD it not long after I got my driver's license. Coincidence? Not likely!
  9. Funny, I was just trying Turkey shoot today for the first time. The only difference is that you start out behind and much closer to the enemy < 400 ft., and approximately at a 45 degree angle off his tail.
  10. If you look in the aircraft.cfg file for whatever plane you are concerned with, I think you will find some settings for FF. For example, for the Alb DIII, there is a section labeled [forcefeedback]. You could try raising the setting for "stick_shaker_magnitude" from 5000 to 10000 to see what happens. However, I don't have FF and I have never attempted to tinker with those settings. If you decide to do so, make sure you back up the .cfg file first!
  11. Ditto, what Olham said. Hellshade kindly sent me a Trackir4 which I then used with the 5 software with no problems.
  12. Thanks for the reports. Hmmm, not sure if I like the tail down crashes. Any idea what might be causing that? My guess is that every bullet that goes into the engine results in a small loss of engine power and therefore, torque. Eventually, the engine does not have enough power to sustain lift. OTOH, shouldn't the aircraft go into a spin instead of falling tail first?? Has anyone else noticed if two-seaters tend to spin or not when damaged? Perhaps a compromise had to be made in the FM of two-seaters between stability vs. spin characteristics? Also, your pics are not showing up on my computer.
  13. Wow, WK, that may be the best tutorial on flying the EIII I have ever seen! Bravo! P.S. Of course, I haven't seen many other tutorials on flying the EIII, either.
  14. I know nothing, NOTHING!! Seriously, I hope to have the campaign DM ready in just a few days. I have been making a lot of little tweaks lately to many of the planes and think that most of them are just about right. However, I still haven't had a chance to test all of the planes against each other. On the Allied side, any feedback about the Camel, both of the Sopwith Strutters, and the Fe2b would be helpful. For the Entente, a little info about the Fokker EV, the Pfalz, and any of the German two-seaters would be welcome. I'll probably release by this weekend even if I haven't finished testing, as I AM getting a little tired of all of this. I can always release an update or two if anyone finds anything peculiar. Thanks for your interest.
  15. Random CTD's may be the hardest glitch in OFF to track down, IMO. When I first bought OFF, I also had random CTD's--usually in the middle of a mission--but sometimes after going to the debrief screen, as in your case. Although the CTD's eventually went away, I could not trace it to anything specific I had done to my computer. My best guess is that my computer was overclocked a bit too much, along with the PCI settings in my BIOS. My video card may also be to blame, as it only has 256 MB of memory. You might also try backing off a little on your graphics settings. In regard to the wingman AI, most players prefer to fly as "always lead" because the decision making of the AI squad leaders is questionable, to say the least. Fortunately, the AI are much better followers than leaders. And don't worry about answering your own posts. We are all fairly informal around here and not stuffy about "thread etiquette," etc. Most of us are pretty nice, too, with the exception of UncleAl , and you've already met him!
  16. Quite. Thank you very much. No effect, huh! Hmmm. How many frontal attacks? What was your hit percentage? Did the aircraft seem to slow down or lose any of its maneuverability? Wow, that's a lot of shots into the wings. How many were aimed at the wing roots? That seems to be the critical area where the wings on the standard DM appear to be the weakest. I'm also curious about the seeming lack of smoke from the oil and coolant reservoirs. Did you see any damage to those areas? Thanks again for your help!
  17. You wrote that yourself? You are a man of many talents, Olham! When I first saw your post, I assumed you were translating another person's poem. Looking back, I see that it is your own work. Consider me impressed! More, please!
  18. Jammer is also an excellent graphics guy and OFF video director.
  19. Well, short of pulling an Uncleal and telling you read the Sticky threads, my GUESS is that you have not selected "mine" in your configuration settings. Start the game and press Escape key (assuming your Escape key works). Click on Controls, which should open up a configuration box for your joystick and keyboard settings. Near the top you should see a box labeled "configuration." Make sure your configuration is set to "mine." If it is set to "mine" than the only solution I am afraid is for you to read the Sticky threads.
  20. If you are running XP, open up Control Panel and click on Game Controllers. Your stick should be listed there. Click on the Properties tab to calibrate.
  21. Help! I'm afraid I need some assistance in testing my QC DM. Right now I am trying to determine if I have set the proper wing strength for the Bristol Fighters. Trouble is, I can't get close enough or do enough damage to the bloody things before they blow ME out of the sky! Damned English craftsmanship! This makes it very difficult to assess their damage model. Is there anyone daring or foolish enough to test my damage model in QC against these battle tanks of the sky? Any help would most certainly be appreciated, as I may never finish my DM mod at this pace! Now excuse me as I go off muttering to myself....
  22. Olham, I'm pretty sure you are flying with the standard OFF damage model. I don't have a campaign DM released for the new planes in HITR yet.
  23. You can now find my mod by clicking on this link: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10704 Have fun!
  24. Good morning/day/evening everyone! (OFFers are everywhere, you know) After it is officially approved by the combat ace moderators, v1.0 of HPW's Vertical Stabilizer Fix for HITR will be made available in the downloads section. This mod repairs a few very minor errors in the stock HITR .xdp files for the Bristol Scout, the DFW CV, and the Nieuport 24, Nieuport 24 Lewis, and the Nieuport 28. Please see the readme for details, but for now, the mod simply adds threshold values for vertical stabilizers to the Scout and DFW, and removes them from the three Nieuports to make them consistent with the Nieuports already in the game. The mod does not change in any way the physical model of the planes, just the values of the vertical stabilizers in the .xdp files. Please note that the mod is only for use with stock installations of the HITR expansion and with no other version of BHaH. I will release a mod with these fixes to go with my alternate HITR DM in a week or so. I hope you enjoy the mod. Please report any problems to me and not to OBD Software. Thank you.
