  1. was for sure the same british pilot LvR mentioned (forgot his name. i think he was an ace with 10 something kills). he told that the prisoner promised as a gentleman not to try to escape the day and following night, but from the next day on he would try to escape if occasion offers. as a sidenote. this prisoner didn't want to tell any valuable informations and didn't even want to tell his killtally and the people of jasta 11 didn't try to force him. that one example of how it was in real. only a rather small number of fighterpilots were known by name and killnumbers by the enemy. most of them were largely unknown. e.G. i don't think that MvR copied painting his AC from navarre or stories like that. i don't think he even knew that navarre existed. or mccudden and others.
  2. maybe rather the fact that you can see a DH-5 although you are flying a SE5a yourself. so far in p3 it's what type you fly, is the type you will see on the ground on friendly airfields.
  3. you can compare it to a skin you have made recently for a marine jagstaffel or with the custom skins. it looks different though, but it still fits to the style the marine jagdstaffel had. i mirrored it to have a more similar look to the picture you have posted.

  5. ...with real veteran ww1 pilots for the dogfight scene. real daredevils who are not afraid to throw the crafts about, compared to most other dogfight scenes in later movies, where you just can see a choreographic flight like in airshows. the dogfight in hells angels is even much longer and epic than this short clip shows. it doesn't show the best scenes.

AC with inline engines should go right as good as left. @ olham:i think the difference is in your case that if flying with the right hand, you are not able to twist the stick as easy to the right, as you can to the left. the other thing is that i would recommend to everybody to use pedals to have a much much better taste of realism. it is IMO much easier, too easy, to have the control about everything in one hand, than having hand-eye-and feet coordination, as it was in real. also, to emulate at least a piece of the problems they had in real, i would recommend not to put every command on a joystickbutton. just the trigger and throttle. for blipping, giving signals, magnetos, leaning throttle etc. i would suggest to set some keys on your keyboard, so you have to reach forward and do something while flying, as they did in real. we forget too easily, how much of an advantage it is to have all controls in one hand on one thumb. completely different than having to do something actively with reaching, looking at the gauges, pushing buttons and switches and pumping etc.. also we don't think about the fact that the real flying stick was about a yard or so long. to move the aircraft one had to move the stick a weigh longer way to all sides with the hand and arm, while we have a joystick where we move it with some little fingerpressure to all sides. it's so much easier to have a feeling if you use only some fingers instead a long stick which you have to hold with one or two hands and which you have to move relatively far to all sides. that's a thing we can't emulate as long as not building a real cockpit. but a thing i was able to fix to make it more realistic is to remove the automatic centering which all joystick have and which makes you also fly a lot easier than in real. in real in most AC if you want to have the stick centered, you had to hold it in center, while on a joystick you just just release the pressure and it centers itself. a hughe difference in controling you AC. i liftet the plastic part and spring with a rubberband of my saitek, so when releasing my stick, it stays where it is instead of centering back alone. if i want to have it in center, i have to move it into center by myself, like it was in real. that makes landing, flying etc. lot more harder and that explains more why they had in real more landing accidents, turnovers with the camel etc. for all realism buffs, if able to, try it. you'll experience a more realistic feeling of flight.

  8. it's modeled realistically, since if standing near an AA gun you can see it move and adjust. also you can see a tracerlike shell fly away if close enough. i saw it very clearly when i was experimenting with tracersmoke etc. the object i made was 1000 times too big on one test, so i saw it fly away. on that occasion i even saw over nomandsland the trenches actually shooting at each other, something i probably never would have noticed, if not making that mistake when experimenting.

  10. in mccuddens "flying fury" he wrote that he once tried a loop with the DH2. when he pulled the nose up and was on top, just to fall on his back, he hesitated and got scared and pushed the stick forward again, and therefor the 0G moment lifted all drums of his lewisgun from the bottom of the cockpit and the flew directly into the propeller behind him, breaking 3 of the 4 blades. also he wrote on more occasions how he turned away from the enemy to change drums, and then attacked again. also on one occasion he was angry about himself because he once just took one drum with him without a reason, and the hun escaped because he was out of ammo. so it seems to be rather common to have more than one drum. personally i'm not flying too many allied campaigns, but at the ones i did, to simulate changing drums i flew away for the enemy and tried to fly as level as possible while lowering the lewis with shift+c, then leaving like that for about 20 seconds and then attack again. a bit like the reload patch in RB3d.
  11. how do i manage to have dark scenerie at night? usually it's dark, but the ground is bright almost as usual.
  12. thank you all for your kind words. the first days have been tough so far, but very wonderful. could sit and watch him every minute. and i think one gets used to get his sleep in snippets. so far he's doing a great job to show any neighbours within a mile who's the boss in the house . i'll tell you how he.................... ooops, got to run, there he goes again................

  16. for your first question i can only say "ouch", because everybody who knows me, knows that i want to have it as historically accurate and as realistic as possible. all used engine-sounds are from the apropriate engines of real AC. however, not all AC are covered yet. 2 or 3 still have custom engine sounds. for the bullet mod, there are 3 versions, you can choose which one you like. i use it dependable of what period of war my campaign is. version without visible bullets and smoke: definitely historically accurate and realistic to have ordinary bullets without visible projectiles or smoketrail. or have you ever shot a rifle or gun and watched the bullet travel? version with white smoketrail: the one olham showed here. JFM sent me pictures with berthold, shooting smoketrail bullets, and they were my model. the version here is a bit limited due my lack of programming ability, but definitely more historically accurate than the custom version. i would like to have the smoke having a little longer lifetime and fading away. that's the only thing i didn't manage to do to make it more historically correct. the tracer version is definitely more historically correct and definitely more realistic and my favorite. before you were throwing balls at the enemy. when i got shot at i was thinking battingpractice. with this version they look like real tracer bullets. btw. your first question is answered already in the description of the downloadable files. about your second question, i can't say anything. winstondoright wrote recently that multiplayers are happy about the soundmod, so you might ask him.
  17. and in bavaria you say piefke (not so much use though) to small brats. btw., germany is the only country i'm aware of, where you have in german news often subtitles when a german is talking, because the dialects are so various and extreme sometimes.
  18. very good work, HPW. i like it one question though. for the people who don't use it yet and want to try, is it enough to use the 2.2 version, or does one have to install 2, then 2.1 and then 2.2?

  21. it's rather surprising how few of the different AC have been shot down. gives you a sense of how precious it was in real to have a kill, and why you were considered an ace with 5 kills (at least in the beginning). shows a bit how too bloody most ww1 aviation sims are. but i'm sure p4 will take care of that
  22. great poll . i would vote for less hollywood effects, but more accurate physics DM. e.g. that AI AC doesn't turn simply into a pile when crashing, but have only damage what touches the ground. same for own AC. or when touching wings in flight, not only visual damage, but apropriate physics and forces on impact, like it is in RB or the other sim
  23. in various literature they said that they could hear the enemies guns rather well and mostly they could also feel the impacts of the bullets. no matter if canvas or wood
