A link to a decent forum would be great, do you have one? Google lists crap.
  2. DRM - I just voted with my dollars

Yes, questionable and objectionable DRM had kept me from buying several nice looking software titles in the last several months. I always feel good supporting the "Good-Guys" with decent DRM policies.

File Name: 1916 MP grid maps for Vasco's RFC-24 campaign File Submitter: Winston DoRight File Submitted: 06 Jan 2010 File Category: Maps, Missions, and Campaigns Here's the multiplayer grid maps for 1916. You'll need them for Vasco's 24 Squadron RFC campaign starting Jan 10, 2010. A big thanks goes to Red-Dog for developing this and for the previous MP campaign grid map. and yes ODB, there's the required copyright acknowlegement included. Click here to download this file
  4. OT-Wings of Prey

Who has all the DRM info? I can't find any info on this aspect and with the crap DRM that's around these days, I'm not sure if I could purchase something like this without the full story.
  5. idea for more realism for p4

I'm pretty sure g-force and headshake movements are modeled in a select few new aircraft in the ETO expansion for CFS3. Therefore it should at least be possible to carry over to OFF you would think? If you're really interested I can re-install ETO and check it out for you. If I remember correctly it's the new ME109's and Spits that have "moveable" cockpits to simulate g-force/headshakes.
  6. 1916 MP grid maps for Vasco's RFC-24 campaign

Duck, put the pencils down and have a go at this. Here's the download link if you want the full quality one for printing: http://drop.io/y4iplny Sorry that's about all I could do and it's rather cluttered I'm afraid. But at least I think you can quickly look at the ingame map, then a glance at this map will tell you which of your 16 small maps to pick up. and BTW, the original map is 90% too big to use as an ingame map. When you shrink it down to an appropriate size there's no detail left as you already found out. Vasco, I know what you mean and granted that is exactly what is needed in the ingame map. To add lakes and move the towns to their correct locations would involve vast hours just flying about sketching where they really should be then drawing them onto the existing game map, then re-flying to make sure it's right. Yes, that would be an epic project for someone. I don't think I'm young enough to start on it! Perhaps ODB can improve on the ingame maps in the future? I sure hope so.
  7. 1916 MP grid maps for Vasco's RFC-24 campaign

I won't be spending much time on teamspeak lately, so you can post here or PM me. Here's what I've done: I joined all the maps, yes it's big! I created grids on the new map that match the ingame map that I made for the campaign in 1916+6. I halved any noticible location differences whan making the new grids so it would match the ingame map as much as possible. I think these new maps of yours are much more accurate than the ingame map. You might be able to bring this into OFF as a period map, but that would take sizing it to match the original map plus skewing it around to match up the cities slightly and than add in the big red front line. I think this would be a great aid if you took it down to a local graphics shop and had tham print it out in 3' x 3' paper. Even a Kinkos might be able to do this. If you want the full quality version of what I've done, just let me know and I'll get it to you.
  8. 1916 MP grid maps for Vasco's RFC-24 campaign

I could put the whole grid on each map, but not part of the grid on each map. That would take a lot of guestimating to do and would be innacurate to say the least. I could try to join all the maps into one, or if you could ask the creator of this if there is already one complete map. Then I could put the entire grid on the one big map. This would then correlate to the OFF ingame map.
  9. 1916 MP grid maps for Vasco's RFC-24 campaign

I'm not sure what "16 maps in the flanders set" is. Could you explain that?
  10. 24 Sqn RFC Online Campaign

I will at this point withdraw my planned participation in the upcoming campaign. Just had a session with Vasco and VonGuber with TAC only and I absolutely hated it. In other words I did not enjoy flying at this level. You guys in the last 7 months I've been gone have progressed well beyond my skills. It seems like the MP crowd has gone elite in my absence and I'm just not willing to work myself into acquiring those skills so rapidly to be able to fly with you. Maybe someday, but I'm not getting any younger so I kinda doubt it. Enjoy the new campaign, see you all still around the forum. I thought I might try and organize some Saturday sessions for beginners, with TAC and labels, using the now available scripted missions so as to be able to train some new pilots who could then graduate up to your level of play but I think there would not be much interest in it?
  11. 24 Sqn RFC Online Campaign

I would take a different attitude if maybe a few of those single player DiD hotshots would show up for a multiplayer session. Then I'd take the time to print out a dozen maps and the time to try and figure out the legend and the time to learn to navigate around the inaccurate world of OFF. All this while trying to get used to flying the sim again after several months downtime with a burned out computer. But at my age if I find myself not having fun when doing something...... I just quit doing it. After all there's so many beers to be drunk, and soooo little time. Are there any new players coming to the party this campaign? BTW, the new RFC-24 campaign MP grid maps are ready for download in the Maps, Missions, and Campaigns section. Hope to see you all in the skies again and a equitable solution can be found to this subject.

  13. 24 Sqn RFC Online Campaign

I'd have to pass on a campaign without the aids. I haven't flown MP since July of last year so I guess that ranks me as a "new player" again. I was hoping to have some fun but without the aids I'd have to classify it as work and at some point I might as well just go get a job if thats the case.
  14. Flickering?

I had bad flickering with the older 185 series nvidia drivers. Upgrading to drivers 191.07 and then to 195.62 cured the problem.
  15. Grid Map

OK, I got this figured out now. In fact I just made practice grid maps for the 1916 and 1916+6 periods that I'm flying a single player campaign in right now. Not much use for grids in single player but I just needed something to do today! I'll get with Vasco and check the dates of his new missions. I can save you the time of making new ones if these coincide with our new RFC-24 MP campaign.
  16. Mp Monday 1-4 7ish edt

It's Monday morning here and I just flew with Vasco to check out my install and teamspeak settings. All went well so I'll try and join you later today.
  17. Grid Map

Considering there's a change in the location of the front lines for every year/map, will a new different map be made available for Vasco's new campaign? It is a different period than when this was made for isn't it? The front would be in a different location, right?
  18. Grid Map

Where do you put the file? Aren't the maps date specific?
  19. That "other WW1 flight sim"

With the DRM that comes with that.......... there's not a price low enough to get me to buy it.
  20. Train in my airfield!

Close Encounters of the Locomotive Kind! Flying Sopwith Strutters for RNAS 3 on a balloon defense mission northeast of Amienterres on 17 June 1916 from St-Pol-sur-Mer airfield. Takeoff time 06:23 hrs. The engine and boxcars were on the field at takeoff and were still there when I returned around 07:45. Imagine my surprise when I just missed the Locomotive on my takeoff roll! I'll check the field before takeoff from an external view next time.
  21. The Prize for Vasco's next campaign.

Count me in for the new campaign. I'm just sitting here waiting for my memory to come in the mail. Soon as it gets here I'll pop in on teamspeak to get sorted out.
  22. now for the hard part...

I just got back from my annual "Christmas at the Movies". Saw Avatar, it was epic. I bought a ticket on the way out to see it in IMAX 3D in a few days.
  23. If you choose less than 100% fuel at the briefing screen, is this truly modeled as a lighter aircraft to fly? It would seem the thing to do to get a lighter aircraft and better performance, for example on a scramble mission if this is the case.
  24. Has anyone else noticed the change in the sound of the spandau machine guns after the HitR expansion? Before, the spandau was a robust sounding effect although the rate of fire may have been a bit low. I found myself fixating on the new weak spandau gun sounds in combat and was not able to concentrate on flying remembering how great the German guns sounded before HitR. Or maybe it's just me and my ancient Audigy2 ZS soundcard? Anyway... I dug into my backup folder and found an older spandau .wav and modified it to sound like it's firing a bit faster (I assume that a faster firing gun was what the dev's had in mind when they changed it). Here's the file if anyone wants to try it. It's in no way meant to be historically accurate, or even close to what a real spandau might sound like, but it is made from a file that was used in OFF patch 5 with a few tweaks for more fun. At least now I can fly and fight without loss of concentration every time I fired those puny sounding guns. Just drop the file into your /sounds folder after backing up your original. external links for downloading: http://drop.io/skex6zh http://www2.zippyshare.com/v/93678232/file.html http://www.badongo.com/file/19155783
  25. File Name: Spandau_Winston-Mod.rar File Submitter: Winston DoRight File Submitted: 20 Dec 2009 File Updated: 22 Dec 2009 File Category: Modding Tools and Add-on Software With the release of the Hat in the Ring expansion, the spandau gun sound was changed to a rather weak and puny sounding effect. I found myself fixating on the weak "ticka-ticka-ticka" sound so much that I couldn't concentrate on flying. What a step backwards in my opinion to the great sounding spandau's from the previous patches. I dug into my backup files and pulled the spandau gun .wav from patch 5 and increased the speed(tempo) somewhat to give it a faster rate of fire. Here's my modded .wav file if you want to try it.
