  1. The guy at the gun must be OvS; the guy standing on the left looks a teaser - could be Pol then? Winder in the cockpit - and the guy standing at the right looks like a "Shredder" to me.
  2. And could anyone tell me, what Steam is and does?
  3. You can't even seem to remember, that you had posted that, Lou?
  4. Yes, that is the good part of it - we notice each other again much more. When we had 5 feet of snow even in my hometown back in 1978, and had to shovel free some walk ways, we asked the older neighbours, if they needed anything from the shops. We then pulled all shopping on a sleigh back from the city and gave everyone their bred and stuff. It was a feeling of good community.
  5. I am saving to build up a new rig again. Now, the only one program I need power and speed for is "Over Flanders Fields". Which as I read, cannot benefit from Quad Core, but only Dual Core. Is it then still better to buy a Quad Core CPU?
  6. Thank you, Parky - that's what I wanted to know.
  7. A good additional tip, Lou, about FRAPS. So I was the Echo now - I must have either missed your thread, or didn't care about it then. What would be really great, would be to know, which of the many little programs one could terminate during games.
  8. Windows CEMENT - hm, sounds reliable. Although - not as good as Windows Concrete would.
  9. You are "the right stuff", smilingmonkey. I would have recommended to start in an Albatros D.II, but you know what you are doing, and you want it that way. You will grow with it, and after some time, when you come back to the Eindecker, you will see how much you have improved your flying abilities. I almost envy you for the "virginal goose skin" when sighting an enemy flight. But I'm glad I also still get it, when I fly without any aids - those distant specs could be friend or foe. And going closer to find out might get you into a fight, when they also see you. Great that you got the sim, got everything set up fine, and are airborne with so much excitement now!
  10. In the Task Manager, one can change the priotrity for each running program. I have sometimes set my "Catalyst Monitoring" to "higher than normal", "OFF Manager" to "high", and "TrackIR" to "higher than normal" - hoping this would use more system power for those tasks. I know that there are free game booster programs, but my "computer advisor friend" does not think much of them, and I have a problem installing a free software which was made in China (call me timid). Some of you guys here have more knowledge of computers - what do you think about increasing the priority values for all parts you need for flying OFF ?
  11. My crashes recently were caused by memory problems, I'm pretty sure now. It wasn't even broken - my "computer assistent friend" had overclocked the CPU, which resulted in wrong speed values for the memory sticks. Sometimes it would still work, but if much memory was needed - crash, boom, blue! Now I have gone back to the default value of 2,83 GHz for the CPU, and the value for the mem sticks shows the correct 1066 - and everything works fine again. I would like to thank Parky, von Paulus and Plug_Nickel here again for their patient advices to a Neandertal Man.
  12. Yes, I think, so far the claim form can just compare, if the wingmen names are right, and it "knows", if the witnesses were close enough. It also "knows" the type and number of aircraft you shot down. So I often had fights, where all wings got shot down. Then it doesn't help to write them in. I think you don't even get a claim form at all then. Winder asked some time ago, how we fill in claims, and that made me think, that he will try to create and build an "intelligent" claims form, which can really check all our facts. It must be a difficult thing to do, and I hope he would be successful (if he really does it), because that would make an incredible immersion factor.
  13. Only recently I had a total system crash and lost all my pilots due to a reinstall. I know how you feel, Simon!
  14. Yep, absolutely. And a great ability of mankind: to ban your fears with a good portion of humour.
  15. Lou, one thing for sure - IF one has the time, a real time, full flight is finest. And if I even fly by map - it's an even greater event altogether. But sometimes time is short...
  16. What disc does it demand? Perhaps you should insert the "OFF" disc?
  17. Those Tommies - make a joke of everything! But in the joy of surviving an Albatros attack, understandable.
  18. I think, the "Survival in the Air" series of British_eh and Bletchley offer settings for the various war periods, which they have compiled and estimated after having read a lot of books. I still have to study all that, I must admit - it's to be found in the "Sticky Threads".
  19. Hihi! You did much like all rookies behave: "I will perform some eights over the field and the crowning closure will be a looping over the CO's head. That will teach them all, to treat me like a greenhorn!" (And we all know, that CO would never show any trace of being impressed, but rather order you into his office, where he will bark at you about your behaviour, whilst outdoors, all the other pilots would press their ears against the wooden wall of the barrack.) Glad you like it so much, smiling monkey!
  20. Update 13 January 2011 - 11:05 h Berlin time (= GMT + 1) Cody Coyote, Montana added. First new pilot in 2011 - happy new year! All the maps are in post 1 of this thread
  21. Archie wasn't very effective in WW1, so I would not go beyond "normal" for ground gunner accuracy. The main effectiveness Flak had, was to assign an enemy flight to your own pilots. When I see black puffs somewhere and follow their way, I know where the foe is traveling and can sneak up on him.
  22. I think you nailed it - that must be the reason. But the method of flying Auto-Mixture won't help there - it happens anyway.
  23. Big congrats, smilingmonkey - it feels so nice to read such a praise to OFF and OBD again - they deserved it! Here is a link to a post with a "Graphics-Setup-Guide" you may try. It isn't the ultimate settings for each card - I have an ATI HD4870 - so you may be able to run sliders higher. But it is a start to understand all the possible setup parts. And if you see my screenshots, they look pretty good. http://combatace.com/topic/60374-an-easy-pictorial-guide-graphics-setup/page__view__findpost__p__452080 How long did it take to get to you? Elephant needs some "hope improvement".
  24. Never had that engine problem. For my sorties, I have a red-black China notebook. Before I leave the briefing window, I note my wingmen as well as A-flight's names; then the mission type, takeoff time and mission target, like: balloon base 616, E-NE of Lens. When I shot a craft down, I check the time, and the location in the map, and note that as soon as I can. In my claims, I use those data. Cody, are you in the OFF Pilots Maps already? If not, please send me a PM with your town and state, and I'll add you there.
