Mine was "Their Finest Hour" from LucasFilm Games. The aircraft were only pixelated views from only a few angles - but I am sure I have been intercepting "Messerschmidts" with "Sailor" Malan, in my Spitfire high above the cliffs of Dover.

I think UncleAl is right - I believe to have noticed, that accomplishing your missions will bring you faster promotions, while shooting down many opponents brings you more medals. That "Mission failed" message seems to mean to tell you, that you won't have any witnesses for your deeds now - which is, as if you hadn't done them.

After 14 days, and 3 or even 4 mails to the webmaster of "The Aerodrome", I am still banned, and didn't even receive an answer. I wouldn't bother, if that wasn't just one of the top websites and forums about the field of WW1 aviation. I can't understand it.

Here is another source, a website about model decals. Here is what they say; plus the link:: Aircraft 5 – Albatros D.III (OAW) of MFJ III (sic), 1917. This striking machine saw a crowned eagle painted on the fuselage, the top half of which is sprayed in green. Although not mentioned in the instructions, this was Ltn. Wilhelm Papenmeyer’s aircraft. He was with Jasta Boelcke at the time, hence the white tail, and never served with the indicated MFJ III. He scored 4 victories but lost his life flying a Fokker triplane. That brings me to the conclusion, that the decals are possibly wrong, and that the black could have been red instead - red appears very dark in B/W photographs.

Yeah, that sounds more like it. Do you know any other picture with that "crowned eagle" emblem?

Do you have a source for that, Cappy? I can't find any D.III OAW for MFJ III in OFF. And how comes, that a member of Jasta 2 flew a craft of MFJ III???

Now I could watch it; thank you, Davy! It looks impressive, no doubt. I may get it some time later. But believe it or not - I am still lovingly married to OFF. Since I have it, I stopped playing anything else.

Sounds like there might be more trouble ahead. I remember, that when HitR came out, some people's AV found it infected, although it wasn't. Seems like, the more desperately they are trying to protect us from any eventualities, the more likely it could become, that parts of programs are getting "identified" as viruses? (Just the 2pence thoughts of a Neandertal man). PS: we heard only recently, that a special new form of virus was introduced by the "U.S. Department for Cyber Warfare" (although they may not be listed anywhere- Lol!). It was said in our news, that this virus could interfere and cause severe problems in the computers of (the Iranian?) nuclear power plants. It easily spreads per USB sticks. Now my very amateurish thought: could it be, that such a virus would spread, yet undetected, and sabotage small parts of our programs, too? (Parky, von Paulus, almccoyr, Widowmaker and all other computer-freaks: please have mercy on me and don't laugh too loud, if this should be utter nonsense)

Tch! To shoot at me, they'd have to line up with me long enough to damage my robust aircraft. All they occasionally manage to do is some round hitting here, another there. Ce n'est pas suffisant, Messieurs! But UncleAl said above: you can lower the gun in a Nieuport 16 by pressing Shift + C - never done that; perhaps you try?

Slartibarfast, if OFF was already operational, and then went bad, you should first only click the button "Reset OFF Manager" in "Workshops". If that failed, I also did "Reset CFS3". That normally helps. Can't help though, when you don't get it operational at all.

Never seen a Fokker Dr.1 in the colours of Jasta 18 - the "Raben-Staffel" (raven squad). A pity the red doesn't seem to be correct - it should be Vermillion red. Here is more - the "Red-tail" must be MvR, the other could be Johann Janzen from Jasta 6.

It's nice to see, when a rare oldtimer is in the hands of such a caring mechanic with such a nice workshop.

It was often said, the French pilots were a bit "lily-livered", but then some people said that about the Germans not crossing the lines much. In both cases, one would have to know the orders the pilots were given. For the German fighter pilots I know, that they should not cross the lines, but rather attack intruding craft. I don't know about the French, but it would make sense to assume, that their orders were more like: don't get into fights against fighters; attack the two-seaters? Maybe someone has better knowledge?

UncleAl: What I've wished for, but I was told I couldn't have, is moving ammo belts. Or workable cocking handle. Which craft are you thinking of? The German ones, as far as I can see, have metal sheet ammo tunnels, which would hide the belts? Cocking handles is another thing - that might be possible to do?
