Questions about the Fokker E.V and DVIII Hi, everyone Being a "brandnew member" here, I hope I may ask you some questions about the Fokker E.V and the DVIII. Please only answer, when you really KNOW; also links to info would be great for me. Here are my questions: 1. When did the earliest E.V enter front service, and in which Jastas? 2. Did the DVIII ever enter front service, and if so, when and in which Jastas? 3. Did Erich Loewenhardt ever fly this craft in combat? 4. If he did: in which Jasta? And did he make kills in it? I read somewhere, Loewenhardt had flown it, and even scored victories. But then I heard from others, that was not the case. So, what is true? Thank's a lot in advance! Olham Dan_San_Abbott's answer Hello Olham: Welcome to the Forum. 1. The first 4 batches accepted on, 3, 8, 9 and 11 July, totaling 12 E.V went to Jasta 19 on or about the 25 July 1918. They were in serial number range of E.110/18 to E.128/18. 2. The second group of 12, with acceptance dates of 12, 16,17 and 18 July 1918, with serial numbers range of E.121/18 to to E.154/18, went to Jasta 6 on or about 2 August 1918. 3. The third batch from 19, 20, 23, 25 and 26 July 1918 in the serial number range of E.138/18 to 168/18. There were a few serial numbers that went to Jasta 6, they were E.155/18, E.156/18 and and E.157/18. This group went to the II and III Marine Feld Jagdstaffeln and to its Kommandeur, Ltn.z.See Gotthard Sachsenberg. 4. The fourth bunch went to Jasta 24s, from the acceptance dates of 27 and30 July. This group arrived Jasta 24s around 12 August 1918. 5. fok.e.V machines accepted on 31 July and 1 August went to Jasta 36 These were in the serial number range of , E.308/18, E.124/18, E.185/18 to E.193/18. 6. The next group I believe went to Jasta 1. These 9 E.V machines were accepted on 2 August with a serial number range of E.140/18 to E.196/18. I believe machines were shipped to Jasta 8 also, I am predicating this on the E.V with the white and dark colored , maybe red lateral stripes on the tailplane and the snake on the sides of the fuselage. However I don't know the serial number of that E.V. According to a photograph, Oblt. Erich Loewenhardt did fly a Jasta 6 Fok. E.V 146/18. To my knowledge he did not fly one in combat. At the time he was flying a BMW powered Fok.D.VII in the serial range of D.4200/18 to D.4250/18. The Fok.E.V was grounded on 19 August, and all the Jagdstaffeln equipped with the Fok.E.V to remove the wing to ensure they were not flown, and they were to be returned to the appropriate Armee Flugpark. There is no record of any Fok.E.V with the new wing or the new designated Fok.D.VIII being returned to service after the acceptance of the new wings. The Fok.D.VIII with the 145 Ps Oberursel URIII or the 160 Ps Goebel Goe.III engines would have been as fast as anything the Allies were using or planning to use in 1919. It they put the Roots type superchargers on them the Allies would really have their hands full they could have gone to 30,000 ft. Interesting spectulation, that's all!. Blue skies Olham, Dan-San

Some powder shuggar vill do - I'll have zem as zey come. But later, vee may need a good brandy - vee will have a belly ache from all ze crumpetz, ant may have to trim our fighterz again. (Presses one hand on his mouth to prevent another "Mmuahahahahaaaa!!!") -
Wow - well directed action vid with very good choice of daytime lighting. This gives me an impression, why German war technology seems to be so deeply implanted in collective memory. They must have appeared really frightening over a city, casting big shadows - even STARWARS used those fears. Those Zeps look so good - even their burning, phantastic! - that now I join those who ask: can we have them in the sim? Wonder, that you got through with the music, Hiccup - mine, they always kicked out for copyright reasons.

Yes, the Nupe 17 and the Pup are very good turnfighters, not to mention the "terrible Tripe". I chose to fly the Albatros from the overall impression she made on me - don't know, it's like when you fall in love with a girl with jug ears. Others mention them, you know she isn't "perfect" - but each time you see her, you must hug her, cuddle with her, and have that crazy wonderful feeling about her. SirMike - if those mentioned pilots are still alive, you could and should post their data to Siggi's killboard. I flew the Pup in an early attempt to fly a British campaign (I got shot up by Jasta 12 aces), and you are absolutely right. A joy to fly her, climb and turn ability wonderful - beautiful crate. Pups from RNAS-3 (Earl Hayne and William 'Nick' Carter among them) where my worst opponents in my Jasta 28w campaign (Wasquehal, May 1917). What makes me dangerous in the Albatros is my good long distance and deflection shooting. So I sometimes fire at enemy craft (and hit them effectively) at 450 - 500 feet distance. I do even deflection shots with good results on a range of 400 feet; it's just that I have the feeling for where to shoot the rounds, so the craft flies right into them. Without that ability, it would be very tough flying Albatros campaigns.

You vait, crumpetz, until you face ze cruel reality! One wing only means one or two wings less to hit vizz your strayink bulletz. Butt as long as vee don't have zis wunderbar plane, vee vill make a perfect duo, usink a Dr.1 ant a D VII. Unbeatable by any crumpet menace zatt is! Ze Dr.1 will be ze center turndevil, you all try to get to grips vizz - and zen OvS vill come out of ze sun, to send you to Walhalla. Ahhm - no, zey von't let you in zere - let's say, across ze Rubycon, to Elysium. Or to hell... Mmuahahahahaaaa!!!!! -
This means that odds are about 2:1 against us That's true, Duce. When I flew a British campaign, I experienced it - I had to move more defensive, more careful, to make halfways sure, I would return. On the other hand, it made fighting WITH my comrades much more intense - we had to help each other, to get back TOGETHER. And from second half of 1917 on, the odds change - the Entente had by far more fresh pilots and fighter craft.

Zatt vill bee zee unbeatable team, ze "Terrible Twinz" - better hurry to get your tea down, crumpetz! Mmuahahahahaaaaa!!! :pilotfly: -
Yes, I think you're right, Uncle. The clouds have been discussed, and I believe, the devs have done what they could. That the AI can fly into the clouds with no harm, doesn't mean, we have to follow them. At least I won't do that anymore. I'll rather try to lure the AI to come out of them.

Throttle back before warp seems to help some people - I'm one of them. Don't know why that is, but it's true. Steve - in case you should be in the "nowhere" with no base around, and out of petrol: you can land anywhere as long as you are your side of the line; don't worry.

OT: My Ace Autograph and memorabilia collection pictures
Olham replied to MK2's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
To hold in your hands such a map, that has been used by an ace some 90 years ago, must make our sim far more immersive. Great stuff, MK2. Must feel good to have such "treasures". -

Wow - that answer is a perfect proof for the origin of the word "gentleman". Great, Launchbury! Where do you live (if I may ask)? -
MK2 - with 7 kills, you must post him; that is pretty good. And then you could save him, until someone gets higher. And you can retire a pilot any time - then he keeps, what he earned. You won't have an American competitor yet.

Steve, as a graphic designer I use Photoshop. So I worked out the pics you posted a little brighter. Hope you don't mind. -
You find all rules and conditions here: http://www.hetzer.talktalk.net/ You may use Warp, TAC and Labels. Then you name it DiD/WTL in your report. List up all data as Siggi requires in the website. Then mail that to: langnasen@fmail.co.uk Hope to see you there soon!

A good story would be the greatest problem. Most air combat movies have a sideline love story, that doesn't seem to fit really. But this director has been able to show a superiour form of love between a giant gorilla and a young woman. And it worked. THAT was the most artistic thing about King Kong IMHO. So he is right - as long as there isn't a reasonable story, it doesn't make sense. Let's hope, he'll find one!

Hasse Wind - do you fly American? (see my thread "Where are the Americans" for explanation).
-
Nothing to excuse for, Buffin - you didn't say Corporal to the General. :pioneer: The overall head name of this sim is "OVER FLANDERS FIELDS", and the sub name for "Phase 3" is "Between Heaven and Hell". But "BHaH" will do for short.

Okay, here is another find with a lot of data. Perhaps you can find out, how reliable they are. http://www.airminded.net/fokD8/fokd8.html -
Hase 3 ? We prefer to call it "Between Heaven and Hell" or BHaH Buffin, I'm pretty sure you get more diverse WW1 aircraft type here than anywhere else; and more are already in production. So there will definitely be a Fokker E.V coming, and more Nieuports, a Morane, Sopwith Snipe and others are often requested and may also be developed sooner or later, as add-on pack. But I haven't flown all the craft here yet (got my copy in February). The Albatros DI was, if my memory doesn't fail me, dropped because of it's rather bad forward view (what's the use of modeling a craft, no one will fly much). An Austrian OEFAG Albatros seems to get modelled. You will be overwhelmed by this sim, I'm sure.

When WIKI data are right, the first victory on a E.V was scored August 17, 1918. And if Jasta 6 really got them by end of July, WomenFly2 and I definitely know, where we will sign in, to chase the crumpets around in it. Mmuahahahaaa!!!!! -
Did a few QCs. My best combat method so far: dive out of danger steep (developing incredible speed), and then pull back the stick hard, for a half or a full loop (TrackIR helps to check, where opponent is). Forget all turning!

In Siggi's DiD Standard Killboard, I don't see any American pilots. Does nobody fly an American campaign? Or is it just too hard, flying the SPAD? Bullethead - didn't you fly her? http://www.hetzer.talktalk.net/index.html (How to get in there? See Siggi's DiD thread above; adresses are in his posts on page three. Sorry Siggi, if you'll have more work to do soon - I couldn' resist).
