  1. Tch, UncleAl! Always encouraging the newbies with the nice tone of your words...
  2. Test Pilot - did you put "elevator trim" on an axis of a stick (I understood so)? You could better put it on two knobs or keys; and to trim, you either press the key several times, or keep it pressed, until it's right. A good help therefor is the "horizon" instrument. (I forgot, how they get activated - see: controls menue).
  3. Well, the Dr.1 and the D VII are probably the most dangerous birds round here. But about the D VII, wouldn't say "beautiful" - she's rather edgy and bulky like a box. But if I had to put a Jasta together, I would choose a mix of these two! (Sorry, my Lady Albatros - you are off course the most beautiful!)
  4. Hey, MJ Thank you for your kind words. But I think, the war pilots, for example, had mostly already respect for each other in the actual wars. When one pilot shot another down, and he survived, they shared knowledge, brandy and cigarettes - and discovered: that bloke might as well be one from our squadron. The opponents, the real competitors in the big wars were not the common people (who mostly had to fight them). The opponents were rather Mercedes Benz vs Rolls Royce, Messerschmidt vs Hawker, Fokker vs Sopwith, and so on... Haven't seen you here yet, so: welcome. Hope you enjoy our banter and chatter. Are you already airborne in BHaH? Best regards. Olham
  5. Well, the RNAS-1 are a great pack. No reason to be ashamed, when you loose against them. By the time I arrived, they had already killed most of flight 1; and they were still 5 - 6 Camels. No, it's alright - I went into that like mad, trying to save some of them. Honorable, maybe - but stupid.
  6. Wow! Seeing, you're not a candidate for the "king of flattery", Siggi, my head is now size one cubic metre; and I float ten inches above the ground (Lol!) I like your contributions here a lot, as you always speak straight from the heart.
  7. All you said is ABSOLUTELY true, Carlos. But since I could not get the sim in a shop, I ordered it at "Over Flanders Fields" website. It's not AMAZON - it's their own site. And it will be sent to you from Avantgate, America; which in my case took two weeks to arrive. Not the fastest possible way, maybe, but the only. And I can assure you - I haven't regretted the buy any nano second. Nor have I heard so of anyone else. Just read a bit more here - and perhaps we can soon welcome a forthcoming ace from Portugal.
  8. Aussie pilot: Could this be your problem or have you done this already. Didn't even know that! Thank you, Aussie, will check and change that.
  9. Just realised, more good posts are coming up. (Sob!)
  10. Maybe "Bad Bratwursts". Lol!!!
  11. Thanks, all. I have always done it as you describe, Todt vonOben, and was pretty good on the Albatros, with a twist-stick. But when I did the same with pedals, I always "smeared away" sideways and could not regain control until the crash. Maybe, it's a question of finer feeling, less rudder on the Alb. I'll try.
  12. Well, I just made my first campaign flight with a Dr.1 (see new thread), and it stalled very easily, when I tried to climb after a SPAD - more, than I would have expected, after all I saw and read.
  13. Oberleutnant Eisenberg Jasta 12, 21. März 1918 This morning at 08:16 h, our flight of 3 Fokker Dr.1 started with our new leader, Hauptmann Mahlo, for a patrol flight in foggy and cloudy weather. The enemy is everywere these days. At 08:37 h, we spotted a flight of 3 SPAD XIII, tangling with our flight 1, some 2000 feet higher up. Hauptmann Mahlo climbed fast, and attacked a SPAD, that had just shot down a Triplane, burning. He made several good hits on the SPAD, big pieces came off, and finally it exploded at 08:40 h, north- west of our field at Mont St.Martin. Flight 1 had meanwhile destroyed one SPAD, the third flew off, heading east. Hauptmann Mahlo followed it, and we witnessed, when the SPAD began to attack our field at Premont. It hit and destroyed two craft on the ground; and it was so fast underway, that it took four attacking rounds, before Hauptmann Mahlo could get behind the enemy. He gave the SPAD two good bursts, and it nosed right down into the dirt behind a hangar. We now headed back for home, but we ran into more enemies. A flight of 6 Sopwith Camel from RNAS-1 was in a tight turnfight with flight 1, cloase above the trees. Our new Hauptmann went right into them and shot the first Camel down in his first turn. Later we found out, it was RNAS ace Maxwell H Findley. It soon became obvious, that there were more aces involved. Now I got worried, about how much ammunition our leader had left. But he did his best to help flight one; in vain though. They fell like the leaves in autumn. Mahlo now climbed after another Camel, and when it tried to escape in a dive, he got above it and shot a piece off the left wing. The Camel swayed and turned, but a second burst finished it off. By now, only Hauptmann Mahlo and I were left from both flights; and still three Camels with us. While I could chase one off Mahlo's tail, the other two shot at him from two angles. He had no chance. His plane was hit so hard, it drew a trail of smoke. He tried to make an emergency landing, as his engine failed out. But around him only trees. He crashed fatally, and the wreckage burnt out. With deep respect - Oberleutnant Eisenberg
  14. No, CAMEL, the "dark knights" - dark as in "toasted by your own flamethrower in headwinds". (Lol!)
  15. Creaghorn and Lou - as long as you take time OFF to talk about it, you're not completely lost to the world. Olham; Therapist :umnik2:
  16. Voss definitely was beyond the fear factor. Almost in a suicidal mood, I'd say. Or was it perhaps impossible for a Dr.1 to escape 5 S.E.5a with an advantage of height?
  17. My neighbour and I would like to connect our two rigs directly via (LAN?) cable; to fly co-op multiplayer missions. Now, I would appreciate a detailed step-by-step explanation, of how to do it. - which cable exactly do we need? - is there something special, when connecting a Win XP rig with a Win Vista? - what do we have to call up/set up, to "see" each other And, when it works: what kind of missions or campaigns can be played? Cause I saw "multiplayer" at least at two menues - which should I choose?
  18. Hahaha! Widow - God sees it all!
  19. I bought SAITKEK flight pedals recently, but found, that some manoeuvers were much different to the flying with my yaw stick. An Albatros - not being the most agile plane - is very hard to fly with them in tight turning combat, and I stall crashed so often, that I threw the pedals in a corner. For a while. But I'm not one, who gives up easy on something (or ...one) he loves. To Womenfly2 and Duck and the other pilots round here: how is rudder to be used in tight turning? And which amounts of? (I think I always pushed it to the limits).
  20. Wow, you flew this plane, WomenFly2 - perhaps you could give me (and others) some rudder advice? I wrote a new thread asking for this.
  21. Welcome, Junnu A good wife you have, when she buys you cans of beer, instead of throwing them after you (Lol!) After two or three flights in "Between Heaven and Hell", I'm rellay exhausted. Sometimes almost trembling. It's so realistic and immersive - and then I must catch a breath, and come here. Perhaps you will make the same experience. Have fun! Olham
  22. So I understand: a rotary is what you call rotating engine; a radial is fixed mounted?
  23. Welcome, Tom I'm SURE, you'll spend what's left of your time, with OFF. You'll be excited! Have fun! Olham
  24. ...and more: Red Dr.1 over the Missouri Look at the climb after takeoff, and the rudder work at the end (turning flat on a plate).
  25. Could be the same plane, CJ. Here's more from a red Dr.1 test flight and build: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8GtIWp3v1Q...feature=related
