Hi, WOFF looks fantastic, but completely out-guns my computer spec. I have the previous OFF and the update (which is in the spec of my machine) and was hoping it was still possible to get the Hat in The Ring paid-for add-on. Is it possible? Jon

Wow, thanks Jim. This is really kind. Thank you again. And thanks to everyone else for their replies.

OT.. Luftwaffe destroying London & Birmingham again

Its really bad the rioting. However, I did hear something funny. A friend of mine said, 'I wish they would come and riot around here, they would do a million pounds of improvements'. -
We have appeared on the frontpage of the picture section of http://videogamegeek.com/ for the past few days. I have only managed to get one pic up at the moment (sadly they won't allow copyrighted material from any publisher, so I could not post polski's great pictures). We already have 6 thumbs on it. A short story of my first mission got a good response. I am going to post a longer mission soon.

Wow, great videos guys. I'll post these links after the hub-bub of Christmas is over. Thanks.

...ah, also the VideoLink section is finally working now on Videogamegeek and two links to youtube videos are appearing in the video section. That's why it is probably back on the frontpage because they are getting loads of clicks. In which case, everybody post links to your youtube vieos.

Wow. OFF is back on the frontpage of Videogamegeek again. The picture I posted was on the frontpage for about a week, now the new story I wrote is getting some thumbs and has put OFF back on the frontpage in the Forum section.

OFF on VideoGameGeek - Its a great way to advertise
jaa posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi guys. How are you all. Some good news. I have managed to get OFF accepted on VideoGameGeek: http://videogamegeek.com/videogameexpansion/83553/over-flanders-fields-between-heaven-and-hell Its a great community of retro and new games, just perfect for OFF. Some people have mentioned the old Red Baron in the forums and I bigged-upped the OFF as its modern replacement with bells-on. After that I submitted OFF for an actual entry in the forum and it was accepted. Its entry is a bit spartan at the moment, but if we could all join that community and add screen-caps, links to youtube vids, reviews etc. If the game gets a lot of 'activity' on its entry it then appears down the left margin - a status of a buz game. If it does that, then looooooaaaadds of people tend to look at it to see what all the fuss is about. PS. In the write up info, I was not totally sure of the release date, so I guestimated. Jon PS. I do not have the Hat in the Ring suppliment so someone ought to review that as well. -

Hi, May I have permission to include some of the screenshots on http://www.overflandersfields.com/Gallery/index.html to the videogamegeek website? Its looking a bit spartan at the moment. (I have already got the ones I like, I just need the permission). -

I have created a Geeklist as well. Large lists get a lot of attention, so please add to this as well: http://www.videogamegeek.com/geeklist/59649/favourite-ww1-plane-from-over-flanders-fields -
I am happily running OFF P3 on a sony laptop Fz38M. I am running it on auto-setup.

How do you video your efforts? Or is there a replay mode? I want to try some stunts and see how it looks from the enemy point of view.

If you are a cheap-skate like me but want a good joystick with rudder-twist the logitech-pro is a good one. Loads of buttons - trigger fire, a thumb fire, 4 buttons on the top for bombs etc, a hat switch for quick looking around, and 6 more buttons on the base. (I use the latter for gear changes - one for up and one for down on GP4).

UK members, how long should OFF take to get here ?
jaa replied to crepitis's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I ordered my OFF about 2 months ago and it only took a week (including 1 day postal strike). However, don't forget the postal strikes are getting worse and more widespread. The news is only reporting the cross-country strikes and not the local office ones. I have only just received a letter from the tax office uk (nothing bad) which was sent 1 month ago. Post is a bit erratic at the moment in the uk. I would give your OFF another week at least. Is the wait worth it - you bet. This game is sooooooo good. Its fun finding a plane that suits your flying style. I started on Albs, and I was pants. Then I flew the Dr1 and wow - was I good. I also like the Sopwith camel when I fly on the UK side. I stall a lot with the later, so I play it a bit more safe when near the ground. By the way - what are the tips for the Camel? Left when ascending, right for descending? Or is it the other way around? -
Up to now I have been flying the Albatrosses in the early part of the war. Today I decided to try the Dr1. Took off, thought crumbs this is twitchy. Bet i don't last long in this. Hit our target balloon and then a swarm of Camels hit us. Now up to this point in time, if attacked by fighters, in a 1 against 1 situation, I would guess I would win only about 1 time in every three. BUT NOT TODAY. Today I was kicking a$$. I found it hard to target the enemy for more than a fracion of a second, due to the twitchyness, but due to the massive maneuverability of the Dr1 I would be straight back onto their tail in seconds. I was only getiing short sprays on the enemy (at one point it was 2 of them verses me) but I was a killing machine. My first mission with a Dr1 and I got a balloon and 4 Camels. Unfortunately I got the dreaded Erroneous Claims message my on claim form, and i could not understand why, so they were all rejected out of hand. But watch out English Scum. Now I have found MY plane, you don't stand a chance. Mwhahahahaha. JAA

Whoo-hoo - a flame war. I'm not afraid of no Snipe. Bring it on. I am going to have to have a go on Multiplayer some time. PS. I did die in my Dr1. Not in combat (although I was getting to the stage where I was feeling invincible and taking on too much risk as suggested might happen in the post above) but I died landing the darn thing at my Airbase. I think I will actually CUT the engine CTRL-SHIFT-F6 before I land from now on.

Hi, I may have enountered a minor bug. When I select Light frequency missions and then close the program and come back to it another day, NOTHING is selected in that section and the game appears to work as if it was normal frequency. The solution I am using is just to reselect LIGHT when I run the game every time. JAA

Wow, I have noticed a lot of overlap with other peoples' hobbies. Here are mine: 1. Board Games: War of the Ring, Richochet Robot, Hive, Axis and Allies and innumerable others. (I have Richtofen's War - came up earlier in this thread). 2. Programming: Nothing like the OFF team. I mainly program digital board games (see above). Kick-a$$ artificial intelligence. (I'm a PhD mathematician.) Also if you are interested in golf I might have something for you (predominantly free) early next year. If the OFF team allow I will inform you here on this forum. My languages/systems are C++, DirectX, Java and Silverlight. Really into Silverlight at the moment. Building a decent engine around that at present. 3. Texas Holdem on Face Book. I have two accounts (work/home) both started with the $1000 they give you and built them up to about $6 million in about 6 months. 4. Role Playing. Not so much now. Difficult to get the people. My favourite systems are Paranoia and RuneQuest. 5. REAL economics. Understanding the real reasons behind the economic mess the western democracies are in - and more importantly how to protect myself. (My PhD is in the control of dynamic systems.) For those who are interested, the systems advocated by the US and UK governments (Keynesian Economics) are technically unstable - they shoot off to infinity. If you want to look into this yourself start with understanding the exponential function and why exponential growth is impossible to sustain in a finite world. JAA

I am really enjoying this game. Its brilliant but I am pants. I have gone through innumerable pilots, the lucky ones being in captivity for the duration of the war. My max flying time for a pilot is about 3 hours total. I have had a maximum of 7 claims for a pilot, but I have never had a confirmed, even when I went into hospital for 3 weeks. I even follow the downed plane and make sure it crashes into the ground. So I need a bit of advice from all you Aces out there. 1. Firstly on my claim form I put the names of my entire 4 man flight. I put down the time, eg 08.31 hours and the location, eg 4 miles NE of Arras. I then give a brief (20 word) summary of spotting the enemy flight, the number in it and any other stuff like 'had to disengage after the kill because i ran out of ammo'. I start the claim bit with 'Craft hit and downed'. I even say 'I watched the enemy crash into the ground'. Any other tips to get a claim accepted? Also what do you write when you are on a lone wolf mission? 2. I find killing bombers easy without taking much/any damage myself. I just keep on attack from below, and turn away when i get too close, then go back for some more. However, my fighter v fighter combat is pants. They seem to be going up down, stall turn and showing off galore. My attempts at stall turns are rubbish. By the time I have control of the plane back the enemy is on my tail. How can I do successful stall-turns? I know what to do, eg pull back, watch my speed go down to about 50, put on hard rudder - but then that is where it goes wrong. I stall, and the plane goes opposite to my rudder. This is where it takes me ages to recover control of my plane. What am I doing wrong? Also how can I shake an enemy from my tail? Are there any other combat flying tips any one else can give? JAA

Thanks for the tips guys, I will try all these out. I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi, another UK OFF flyer. I am just a week into the game and I still can't believe how good it is. My favourite squad at the moment is Jasta 2 flying Albatros DI-III. I really like this plane. (Don't like the Halberstat [spelling] a bit too nose heavy for my flying style.) I am still learning the flying skills at the moment. I'm not bad but in a head-2-head with an enemy fighter in an evenly matched craft I would say I am only 40% likely to win at the moment. Got to get better. (I got some tips off another thread, and I am trying those out.) As for the claims, I have not got those sussed yet. I am writing in a style similar to you. With numerous different pilots I have downed about 30 craft and still not got a confirmed. I guess they don't like my handwriting. lol. I have set my claims difficulty to the middle value, see if that helps. I'll let you know. Also I have set my mission frequency to Light, as most of my pilots didn't last for more than a few days (unless they got hospitalised) to see if it takes a few days to get confirmation. I'll let you know how I get on. Let me know if you make any progress on the claims front as well. If you do let me know what you are doing. Ludwig Von Mises (my flying name, named after the credible Austrian economist.)

Mine took 8 days to the UK (and that included a 1 day postal strike locally).

Wow this game is brilliant - a few quick questions
jaa posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Got the game on Monday (just 8 days delivery to the UK). Wow its good. I have got so many things to write in praise of this game, but a few quick questions. 1. Went on a balloon buster with rockets. How do I fire them? Luckily one of my team-mates got it so all was ok. 2. Had to escort a bombing mission and just like the un-modded cfs3 the warp goes mental when you get close (next stage) to the target. In the un-modded WW2 I just avoided bombing escort missions. However in this game I would like the full experience if possible. Any idea how to overcome this? One critism. Its bl**dy annoying. I am busily trying to fly a WW1 plane and all these lunatics keep on shooting at me. :(
