  1. I'm Not Sure Where to Ask This...

Constellation1710, the bulk of the modding discussion occurs in the modding forums devoted to the individual games. For example the Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion, Digital Combat Simulator Series Modding/Skinning Chat, and IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: Mods & Skinning Chat forums. Look around the CombatAce forums concerning the games that interest you, and I would advise with the Strike Fighters 1 & 2 series to look in and familiarize yourself with the Knowledge Bases for SF1 and SF2. Once you have caught up on some of the reading feel free to dive in. This is one of the best online communities I have ever been involved with, just be considerate and respectful and you won't believe all of the people who will be happy to help you or even ask you for advice on a topic that you have demonstrated you are knowledgeable about. Finally I should point out that people widely regard me as something of a guru when it comes to SF2 Ground Object data files, I have collaborated with a number of model builders various ships for SF2 as well as being essentially the producer/art director on the V&W Class Destroyer Pack in addition to being a nice guy who pitches in to help other CA members when I read about some trouble one is having that I think I can solve. All of that, and even I don't have access to the Modding and Developer Forums or have the +MODDER group tag on my profile, so don't worry about the locked Modding and Developer Forums or whether you officially get classified as a modder just do what you enjoy, if you demonstrate your interest in modding through your actions people are going the consider you a modder regardless of access or official recognition. Also just between you and me I thought the USS Constellation's registry number was NCC-1017 not 1710. Good to see another Trekker around.
  2. An idea occurred to me regarding a possible new utility for SF2. The idea is first for a utility that can look at the aircraft data file of any installed aircraft in your mod folder and analyse its flight model and display the selected aircraft's flight characteristics. Second, give the utility the ability to compare and contrast the flight characteristics of multiple aircraft, say up to six different aircraft at a time. Third would be to give the utility the ability to generate all of the different types of E-M diagrams for the selected aircraft and be able to overlay them for comparison purposes. Fourth give it the ability to save the data and charts to TXT and JPG file as necessary. I know there is a less sophisticated flight model tool for FE2 but when I looked I did not see such a tool for SF2. I think such a tool would be useful for comparing how the various aircraft preform against each other as modeled in the game versus how we know the real world aircraft fly. On the one hand it would also be a great tool for our flight model people who could use it to easily compare the simulated aircraft data with the real data in the manuals and on the other it would be of great help for the people in the DACT thread in analyzing the aircraft they are pitting against each other. I don't have any programming experience but want to ask the CA SF2 community if anyone else is interested in such a tool if it is possible to do? Edit: Spelling corrections.
  3. The MosquitoFB_MkVI_loadout.ini file used by the IDF Mosquito references the "60lb-rocket" and the "RAF50", "RAF100", and "RAF250" which are RAF WWII rockets and bombs, they are all in the attachment in my last post. However the bombs have an ExportEndYear date of 1950 which I think you will need to change for the Suez Crisis.
  4. First snow fall of 2016.

Just thought I would share the first snow of 2016 to fall at my house. The bulk of it fell over the last eight hours or so.
  5. SF2 IDF DH Mosquito FB Mk.VI Pak does not include the weapons for the aircraft only a fuel tank. Try dropping the attached weapons into your weapons folder and see how the plane preforms. Also you might want to double check your Suez campaign install's weapons and guns folders to make sure everything that should be in them is there. WW2_Mosquito_Weapons.7z
  6. Here are several other Red side campaigns most are either Arab against Israel or North Vietnam against US/South Vietnam but there are some Cuban and Soviet side campaign option as well. With regard for the campaign editor why do you need it? Just extract, copy, and rename the existing campaign you want to fly in. Once that is done then edit the campaign's INI files with notepad to swap the Red and Blue sides and edit the squadrons Soviet squadrons you want to have player flyable in the campaign to make them playable. Once that is done just make sure all the aircraft that those squadrons fly in the camping have cockpits and you should be good to go. From the SF2 download section. 7. Birth of a Super Hornet

Fascinating video! Although I am not sure if it is fit for the National Geographic Channel. The documentary's production team did not provide any info about whether the mother was an F/A-18B or an 18D nor what aircraft the F/A-18 mother chose as her mate to produce this new offspring aircraft. They need better researchers and writers if they want to hold there own with the other wild life shows.
  8. krfrge, take a look at this article. http://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/japans-master-plan-destroy-the-chinese-navy-battle-14779
  9. New F-104 model? If so it would be nice if the model could also be used as a starting point for a CL-1200 Lancer as well.
  10. Typhoon QRA video

Thanks for linking the interesting video. I wonder how much of the procedures used by the RAF in such instances were effected by study of the events of September 11th, 2001?
  11. Nautical Nimbkinpoops

Fubar512, , I may not be a boater but having lived just a mile from the shore of Lake Huron most of my life I do know that you don't horse around in the shipping channels, especially in the height of the summer shipping season. I am not sure how much traffic New York gets but on the Great Lakes you are just asking for a 30,000+ ton freighter with 60-70,000+ tons of coal or iron ore in its hold to run you down at 15 knots.
  12. Do you mean the minimum and maximum extents of a selected node? That can be found in the upper left menu under "Bounding Box". If you need to find the exact center of a selected node then you will have to get out a calculator and do some addition and subtraction using the min/max X,Y,Z coordinates of the node you want as a starting point to find it. One thing you can do is create a Component in the object's data file and give it a "MinExtentPosition=" and "MaxExtentPosition=" so that it will generate a hit box and then keep adjusting the numbers until the size and position of the hit box match the coordinates you need. I sometimes wish the LOD Viewer had the ability to create a highlighted box of any given size you entered that could be scrolled around the X,Y,Z coordinates of the model at will so and an user could mark exact coordinates independent of any selected node.
  13. If it Flies, then it....has to be registered

I thought I should mention that you should search "Canada ahead of US on drones" without quotation marks in a search engine like google or duckduckgo. It is rather interesting to read about the differences in how the two countries are handling the issue of commercial and hobbyist drones.
  14. The Solidarité logo image added in support of France in the wake of the Paris terror attacks made me take a closer look at all of the logo's displayed in the upper left side of the page. I noticed that they contain the following aircraft. B-1B B-2 A-10 F-14 F-15 F-16 F-35 What stood out to me, beyond the fact that the F-16 appears four time vs. one each for everything else, is that all the aircraft are of United States origin. I was thinking that once enough time has passed that the "Solidarité" and "Star Spangled Banner" logos are taken down how about logo images for the MiG-29, Rafale, Su-30MKI, Tornado, and Typhoon? With the other seven aircraft already in use one logo of each would give you twelve total logos the same as are presently in use. Given the number of members at CombatAce who are from countries other than the USA should not CombatAce have a little more international flavor in the aircraft images displayed? Just an idea I thought was worth considering that I wanted to share with everyone.
  15. Erik, sorry I am so late on commenting upon your response to my suggestion. All the new aircraft images look wonderful, I especially like the S.E.5a, Su-30MKI and the additional national flags.

  17. From what I have read, and I fully understand the sentiment, Julhelm is vary protective of his work. As such it is unlikely at this point in time.
  18. "A Soldier's Silent Night"

http://www.asoldiersilentnight.com/ "A Soldier's Silent Night" By James M. Schmidt Read by Father Ted Berndt T'was the night before Christmas He lived all alone, in a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone. I had come down the chimney with presents to give To see just who, in this dwelling did live. I looked all around A strange sight to see No tinsel, no presents, Not even a tree. On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands. Metals 'n badges, awards of every kind; A sobering thought came alive in my mind. This house was different... it was dark, it was dreary. I had found the home of a soldier, I could see that most clearly. The soldier lay sleeping, Silent, Alone; Curled up on the floor In this one bedroom home. His face was so gentle, The room in such disorder; Not at all how I pictured a United States' soldier. Was this the hero of whom I'd just read; Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed? Then I realized the other families I saw this night, Owed their lives to soldiers Who were willing to fight. In the morning, round the world, Children would play; Grown-ups would celebrate A bright Christmas Day. But they all enjoy freedom Each month of the year, Because of soldiers Like the one lying here. I couldn't help but wonder How many lay alone, On a cold Christma Eve In lands far from home. The very thought Brought a tear to my eyes; I dropped to my knees, I started to cry. The soldier awakened I heard his rough voice, "Santa don't cry, This life is MY choice. I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more; My life is my God, My country, My corps." The soldier rolled over, and drifted to sleep. But, I couldn't control it, I continued to weep. I kept watch for hours, So silent and still; As both of us shivered From the cold night's chill. I didn't want to leave him On that cold, dark night; This guardian of honor, So willing to fight. Then, the soldier rolled over, In a voice soft and pure, He whispered, "Carry on Santa, It's Christmas Day, all is secure." One look at my watch, I knew he was right. Merry Christmas my friend, May God bless you this night. P.S. This should have been posted last night.

I thought I would bump this as it is relevant for today.

  21. My disappointment is that I have an almost perfect air defense edit of the Ulyanovsk data file but it would require the addition of twelve nodes at specific locations to the model to work properly. Fubar512 and I talked about it but Julhelm does not appear to be interested in any more edits to the model.
  22. 'Mugs' McKeown, 76, 1st Top Gun commander

Thought I would add this episode of Dogfights to this thread because 'Mugs' McKeown is in it staring at time index 23:53. Let us remember the man in life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GP5gfw0ZAQ&feature=youtu.be&t=1433
