  1. BAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Love that Outland cartoon!!! ROFLMAO! *gasp* cant...stop...*choke* ...laughing... *wipes tears out of eyes...* :D You know, I have NO idea what Jesse's platform would be. He was rather popular if I recall with his previous constituancy. But I never heard where he stood on things. Guess like so many, I never took him all that serious. Bet he'd support the military and fight gun control. Probably HATES political correctness, but just guessing. Sorry...didnt meant to get all serious... ;) ...love thaqt outland cartoon... :D
  2. These questions were asked on the Yahoo groups forum for Fighting Steel and Fighting Steel Project (FSP) and thought they might be good to post for anyone getting into, or back into, FS. First,... Been playing FSP (original) for several years on a Pentium 466 Windows98 2nd edition laptop w/8MB video, (also ran well on old 800MHz Windows98 2nd edition laptop w/16MB video) - love the game and have created every possible senario, (including pre-war US/UK Joint Naval Exercises). Here's my question - looking at purchasing version 9.5 on CDROM, (Italians and French need to get involved, not to mention all post 1942 USN CAs, CLs and DDs - you can never have enough DDs!) - is everything I'll need on it, (i.e. won't have to download files, extract, overwright, fiddle, troubleshoot, etc.) and what operating system will it work with, (upgraded PCs/laptops last fall - both XP pro, 2.6Ghz w/64M video, 512M RAM ,etc.). Can always get a used 800Mhz Dell w/32Mhz Video RAM for a couple hundred bucks but I'd just as soon load on my current desktop. I guess I'm looking for a simple install as well as stable operating functionality. PS. Had an idea about mine fields - just like adding Bombardment circle - only when ships enter area, AI determines if ships affected, (could use same code used for torps in determining hit rate). ------------------- Hello, Thanks for your questions and interest. First, let me be clear on a couple of your questions -- you can -always- download the current version of the Fighting Steel Project for free: the CD option is really for if you want to help fund work on the project with a donation, and/or do not want to download the seperate files that are on the CD. You will still have to have a copy of the original game installed before you update with FSP, as FSP will not install without the original game already installed (and at any rate is not a complete game by itself as it does not include all of the original game files...). The installer on the FSP donation CD, and the one you can download are (and will be) identical: the single installer will fully update your current Fighting Steel game to the new FSP version, no matter what version it is, and you do not have to uninstall/reinstall the game, nor do you need to run a catalog patch as in older FSP updates :-) The donation CD does include all of the updated scenarios, the FSP manual & the original game manual (both in PDF format), the FSP radar guide, the FSP ship-data excell chart, demos of several of NWS own games, as well as the latest version of Direct-X and Acrobat reader...it of course also contains the installer for the current FSP release, both the English and German-language versions. So yes, virtually everything to do with FSP is indeed on the CD. Most PCs produced in the past ~2 years should have few problems with FS or FSP -- of course, like with any complex software product, you can have hardware or software that does not 'play well' with the product: we do our utmost here to help those who do report such problems, as players on these forums can attest to. From your description, your machines should work fine with FSP, but if you do have any issues you know where to find help ;-) Mines: we are still not set on how we want to introduce these into the game. They are not -really- critical for WW2, but they certainly would be a needed item for any future FSP-WW1 game... Thanks, William Miller Assistant Director\ Projects Deeveloper NWS Next... Hello, I was wondering how close (FSP) V9.5 was to release. ------------ Hello, All of the added game features and changes are complete, and appear to work well in tests. All that remains is to add the new ship models and ship data that will be included in 9.5 -- we have a ship list that appears to be firming up, and modeling of the ships has started. I would estimate 8 - 14 days until the release at this point. Keep in mind that is an estimate, we want to make the release as bug-free and smooth as possible, so if it takes a few extra days to work out any last-minute kinks we will take that time, rather than release with the 'kink'. Thanks! William Miller Assistant Director\ Projects Developer NWS I asked this same question and this was the reply. Glad to hear its near release, only a few more weeks. This is going to be an AWESOME version to have of FSP so keep your eyes out for it. It you arent a member yet of Yahoo groups and these forums for FSP and the Fleet Command Naval Warfare Project (NWP), get signed up, its free. Theres a LOT of interesting things coming down the pike soon if you are a fan of either of these games.

  5. I hear ya chief. CV's in any era era what Im after. IL2 is gonna have them this autumn and SFP1 too...well thats just plain KEEEWL! :D The A7-E is a fine plane to have just for this too methinks. Love flyin it AD, well done!
  6. Yes, Im a fan of both these planes myself. The Yak is definately an interesting plane to have in a sim. I was surprised to see how well it could turn though considering how big the plane is. You'd think it would be less agile, kinda like the ME-110 or most other twin engine "fighters". But then again, it wouldnt be the first time I made a wrong assumption, hehe. I finally strightened out and extended at a good moment and got out of range of him before turning back and lobbing an AIM at him that ended the problem in question. ;)
  7. Very interesting. Im going to visit a freind and work on his comp which has XP on it. Im also upgrading to XP soon myself, sick and tired of WinME, so this guide ought to be helpful. Danke Comerade. :)
  8. Very cool. I understand this has the added features for the SAAB Draken I think it is Column5 is fixing to release. Whoa baby! Cant wait! :D
  9. Thought you'd like to know, hehe. ;) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=...913&m=183100843 2 questions... 1.) Is that B-25 flyable? 2.) Does its loadout include parachute fragmentation bombs like they used against the Japs in the Pacific? Ill make a "Kennys' Air Force" campaign.
  10. This was posted by the Team Director at the Fighting Steel Project forum... "I just wanted to remind everyone that TAS is evolving into Navies At War-WW2 and if there are any questions about this upgrading of TAS to a more comprehensive product that can either be played as a stand alone simulation or be used with the Warship Combat Series or Fighting Steel Project. Let me know if there are any concerns or questions. Thanks NWS Team Director" The thread is here along with links for the questions and answers that followed. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/NWS-FSP/message/4913 Im not going to post all the questions but just a couple to give you an idea what is happening here... "From: "Robert and/or Nora Thompson" <Hobo55@t...> Date: Fri Mar 19, 2004 3:23 pm Subject: RE: [NWS-FSP] TAS evolving into NAW-WW2 /w NWS reply Greetings: I purchased TAS and FS in late Jan or early Feb., also made a donation for the upcoming FS 9.5 which I haven't received yet. Are both TAS and FS going by the wayside or as I understand evolving into 'Navies at War-WW2. *** FSP is going very strong.. as a matter of fact v9.5 will be one of the most comprehensive updates we have ever done for FSP so far. (BTW.. you didnt get FSP CD v9.5 for donation because it hasnt been released yet..;-) TAS is not in ANY WAY dead.. TAS is evolving into something much more then what you all originaly paid for.. example.. more detailed aircraft operations, more detailed sub operations, a built in surface combat system (which means it can be played as a stand alone simulation), turn based or real time option while playing, the ability to handle longer campaigns, and much more! Basicly NAW-WW2 will do everything TAS does AND have what was planned for NAW-WW2 added to it! This does not effect FSP in any way shape or form.. except for the fact that if we get the FSP WW1 edition going the NAW-WW1 will be compatible with it! ;-) Am I confusing the WW2 (2D )game I purchased in February with the Navies at War WW2? *** 2 different products. WC-WW2 is a simulation in itself for tactical surface combat. NAW-WW2 will be compatible with both FSP and WC-WW2 if you decide you want either one of those simulations to handle the surface combat. Navies At War at the core is a operational campaign simulator with tactical command structure (basicly you dont left out of the action or the important decisions..;-) Again though.. NAW-WW2 can either use its own built in surface combat system, or FSP, or Warship Combat-WW2 to handle the surface combat actions at your choice! The TAS and FS package (3D)works well and it would be great if both of these formed into the new game allowing for aircraft and CV's. I suppose a donation would be required for the new game. What about the 9.5 upgrade? Is it redundant? If so maybe I should cancel. *** FSP v9.5 will be shipped on the CD you sent in a donation for. NAW-WW2 is a seperate product. Basicly think of it as this.. TAS is being replaced by NAW-WW2 with all of the same compatibility of TAS with FSP.. BUT.. you will be getting a LOT more features by moving up to NAW-WW2 that are not presently available in TAS and it will be a stand alone simulation in and of itself if you dont want FSP to handle the surface engagements. Let me know if this helps. ;-) Im not surprised at some of the confusion as I dont think anyone has ever done something like this before.. ;-) Bob Bob and/or Nora Thompson *** Thanks Christopher Dean NWS Team Director / Projects Designer ***" Next... "From: "Pete" <pmarvin7@c...> Date: Fri Mar 19, 2004 3:12 pm Subject: Re: [NWS-FSP] TAS evolving into NAW-WW2 /w NWS reply Just bought TAS...what does it take to upgrade to Navies at War WWII? *** Once NAW-WW2 is released.. $10! I am seeing if its feasible to do a upgrade as a download rather then having to ship another CD. Ill let all of you know if that idea will work or not. Hold on to your serial # as that will be required for the upgrade in either case. ;-) Thanks NWS Team Director ***" and finally, one from me, alias Racketyjack... ;) " From: "JB. Gerald" <racketyjack@y...> Date: Fri Mar 19, 2004 7:36 pm Subject: Re: TAS evolving into NAW-WW2 /w NWS reply Ill be upgrading to NAW-WW2. Ill also donate for the FSP 9.5. Just gotta wait till payday... :0) This all sounds great to me, really looking forward to it. Do you think the game system will be as tactically flexible as the old Carriers at War game? *** That is the plan. One of the directives of the design is to allow the player to make the tactical decisions quickly and easily so as not to be left out of the action. For example.. you will be able to set up air searches, launch air strikes using selectable ordnance, setup CAP, etc.. using carrier and land based aircraft operations. The AA combat will also be more detailed. I have played both Carriers At War and Carrier Strike and enjoyed them both.. NAW-WW2 will be a very direct competitor with those designs but you will also have the ability to handle surface engagements through NAW, FSP, or WC. NAW-WW2 will also be a continualy updated product after release as we do with all of our productions.. meaning more features and special requests will be added through downloadable updates for registered owners. Any new features that are applicable to both NAW-WW2 and NAW-WW1 will be added to both editions. NAW-WW1 also wont just cover WW1.. it will also be able to cover the Russo-Japanese War either at time of publication or soon after with a downloadable update. The overall goal of the Navies At War Series is to be the some of the most comprehensive simulations of naval campaigns ever developed. Quick note: I cant promise this yet.. but we are looking at a way for TAS owners to upgrade to NAW-WW2 via a downloadable update so as to save on shipping cost for a CD to be mailed. We will post more news about this soon. Thanks Christopher Dean NWS Team Director / Projects Designer ***" All in all, it looks really cool. Ive been hoping for something that would improve upon the old Carriers at War. Carrier combat has always been my favorite form of gaming harking back to the days of Avalon Hill's FLATTOP. Now it looks like Ill finally be able to scratch that itch bigtime...YEAH BABY! :D ;)
  11. The Fighting Steel addon campaign simulator Thunder at Sea has just been updated to version 1.4. This update installs over the original version 1.0 to bring it to 1.4. This, by the way, will likely be the last update to Thunder at Sea as it is now evolving into the new "Navies at War", more on that in another announcement. As soon as v1.4 readme is released, Ill get a listing of changes with the new version. The file can be had here for registered owners of TAS...http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/NWS-TAS/files/ Happy sailing!
  12. Is there a way to direct connect on the interent? Me and a buddy want to play but because of high pings, 56K, we seldom get into an online server. Most games allow direct connect. What about COD?
  13. Curious is all... Guess since I asked, Ill start. Ive worked as a student, busboy, dishwasher, telegram delivery, truck stop attendant, security guard, US Marine Engineer and equipment operator, US Navy Boatswainsmate, Calif. Natl Guard ammo handler and refueler, Arizona Copper miner, Rodeo cowboy and ranch hand, sold auto parts, truck driver for military and as independant hauling hay and grain mostly, drafter, land surveyor, Able-bodied seaman Unlimited, maintenanceman for horse facility, and presently employed by the local school district as a school custodian. None of them paid a lot but I generally was stress free and perfectly happy. :0)
  14. Definately a MAJOR improvement. I hope like you mentioned elsewhere, it'll be less buggy. So far seems to be cool. Ill try uploading those screens again as a test, lol. :D
  15. The twitch in my eye after chaparoning 99 kids for 6 days isnt as bad as I thought it would be. We had a grand time. Stopped in Philly first and spent a day there looking at independance hall and the liberty Bell. Then spent a day at Gettysburg. Our guide reminded us that leadership was then, and still is, by example. And that after undergoing the horrors of war, all a soldier really wanted was to know it wasnt all in vain and to be remembered by those he served. His speech choked me up...hope the kids didnt notice. Then spent 4 days at our Nations' capital. It was a...well, "CAPITAL" place! sorry... Saw the Capital buildings, congress, etc. The Smithsonian, naturally headed straight to the Air and Space Museum. Saw all the memorials including the Iwo Jima and Vietnam memorials. Visited Arlington and watched the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknowns, laid a wreath at the civil war unknowns, paid my respects at kennedys grave and the memorial to the Challenger. Went on an all evening dinner cruise up the Potomac that played music WAY too loud, (my twitch was at its worst here...), and worried about kids falling in the river all evening. I left there feeling a little more pride in my country and impressed with our sense of history and spirit and destiny. Best trip Ive ever taken. There were guards everywhere here, including the guy mowing the lawn behind me to my left. Kids group shot at the Civil war unknowns tomb... P-80 Shooting Star at ASM, (we need one in SFP1)
  16. Happy Easter Nick and God Bless to everyone. Good day to reflect on all the good God has done for us.
  17. Im always getting into turn fights with MiGs and its a wonder I dont get shot down more. Im usually doing hi or lo yo-yo's so manage to keep myself mostly out of their firing envelope. But I was surprised last nite when flying the F-16, after engaging some Yak-28's, to have them keep up with me in a turn. Matter of fact, we wound up doing a multi-lap circle jerk...me trying everything I could think of, yo-yo's, slow speed, fast, flaps, going into a verticle turn, and still that commie kept out of my gunsite for the most part, maybe only a fleeting pass or two. Is this bloody accurate??!!?? Being a twin engines in a nacelle, high wing loadong aircraft, maybe at slow speeds, but almost certainly not at higher speeds. The Falcon should have made scrap out of him. What say ye lads?

Good news, glad to hear it! I need to get me a nice card too, maybe this summer. ;)
  19. Im going to Washington Thursday as part of a school trip. We will be away for 6 days. During this trip, I beleive Saturday, we will visit the Vietnam memorial. If anyone in the group would like a rubbing of a name, family member or otherwise, please email me at pcpilot@nethere.com with the name you want and the address I can send it to. I will do my utmost to get you the rubbing. Let me know no later than friday; I have my laptop and will check my email.
  20. Yeah, on the USS Independance back in'78, we lost 8 guys in our workup to, and eventual, deployment. 5 were pilots, the other 3 flight deck crewmen. Who ever said the cold war didnt cost...

    Graphics Help

Zag, 1st, make sure nothing else is running in the background. Check this by hitting cntl, alt, del. The only things going should be Explorer and systray. If there is anything else going, close 'em out. 2nd, Your machine is a mid-range machine. I would suggest making sure all your in-game video and sound settings are mid-range also and not high. Let us know what happens then ok? Good luck... PS. I might also add that if these games ran well before you added the latest video drivers, you might try re-installing an older version that worked. New updated drivers dont always help with more than a few problems that not everyone has. PSS. If all this fails, take note of my sig and do as I do at that point...

Can any tell me a way to add a download counter to my HTML website? Is there a java script or an HTML script perhaps? Thanks...
  23. I have been working on a ficticious campaign for awhile using the Balaton map, pitting the Soviets against the Germans using early war, (1940), aircraft. I am nearing completion of the release version of just over 20 missions, though I expect a few more missions to be added a little later on. It will feature among other things, movie .ntrks. I am posting on my personal website the first movie along with my first missions' recorded track as a preview for anyone interested. The movies can be found here...BALATON PREVIEW!They include an installation readme. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks all...
  24. Ok, decided to go ahead and post my preview video on my own website despite the limited space. I also made an announcement on the IL2 forums here, just copy and paste into your browser, the HTTP button isnt working right now...http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=400102&f=50910533&m=180101513 You also can get the video here...again, copy and paste...http://home.nethere.net/pcpilot/video/jbvid.zip Please let me know what you all think, thanks.
  25. MJ, Another problem. My track file I uploaded keeps coming back to me "incomplete or damaged" when I do a test download. The file archive being uploaded is fine. But its missing a couple files in the archive after I download it. The track file I uploaded can be found here...http://forum.biohazcentral.com/index.php?showtopic=5006
