  1. Its wierd, Ive not seen much thats suitable on the net yet. Im gonna check the Radio Shack here in town, then maybe drive down to Frys payday and see what they say. (I live in the Boonies...well, sort of...we have cows...) Thanks for the Ideas Dagger.
  2. Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone has an adapter for my Compaq Presario 1277 that I can plug into my pickups cig lighter or power point? I'd like to take it with me on a few planned trips. Ive checked the Compaq website and they dont have them (!). However, I have seen them before so I know their out there. Be willing to pay any reasinable price. Thanks in advance.
  3. Het Chaingun, Thanks for the news. I didnt know about it till I read your post, thanks. Good sim, eh? ;)
  4. When this comes out, I think Ill reinstall the game and all the aircraft and add a few terrains that I like. This ought to be REALLY cool. A big improvement for SFP1.
  5. When you get a few moments, please visit the link provided to my website and its "TAS AAR" page. Its actually been up for awhile but I didnt post it, as a writer for a gaming website said he wanted to use it in his monthly article. Well, he didnt so I feel ok with putting it out myself. I wish I could have gotten a few more screens of the action. I couldnt beleive all the shell splashes when I first ran into the Brits. My big goof was making the choice to try a run past the Faroes. My victory was saving my butt alive and nailing a Brit ship in the process. Thunder at Sea is an addon released by Naval Warfare Simulations for the game Fighting Steel. They sell FS for $10 and TAS for $24 at their store. I have really gotten back into this game now. A lot of fun. My AAR can be found HERE! Then just click the TAS AAR link on the left. Let me know what you think.
  6. Gotta agree with Vegas, thanks for the time Ghostdog, and you too MJ. Best sim site on the web. (Betcha didnt think it'd be this much work, eh MJ? :D )
  7. Amen brother, feel the same way...
  8. Cretin, almost any funny comment can be linked to something serious. Chief was just tryin to pass on a joke is all. He wasnt trying to be disrespectful to ACTUAL accident victims. I would have never made any connection to actual wrecks and deaths if you hadnt said something. I took his joke for what it was. Not tryin to flame ya pal, just my observation. Actually Dagger, I recognize that broom...MY ex-wife was flyin on it when she left me. I gave her a "boost" out the door, hehe.
  9. Like the sig cretin, warms the heart... Im talkin about the bottom one... God I love this country. :)
  10. No rest for the wicked... *Snaps whip over jeffs' head as drummer beats out slow tatoo while sweaty, half naked men row...* :D
  11. Ive played a LOT of IL2. got the hang of landing down pretty well. But I didnt study as carefully as I should have in this game when I got it. My first flight and first pass, dont know squat about an ILS system, come in too fast even for a jet, decide at last second to go around, raise flaps and hit the burner. This time I come in, not as fast though still too much, but using airbrake and full flaps. I touch down waaaaay too far down the strip, still coulda made it but didnt deploy chute and forgot where wheelbrake toggle was, lol. Wound up in the cow pasture at end of runway front wheel half buried. Decided to open canopy for fresh air to let bad smell in pants disipate. Next time I read the manual and have keycard handy, lol. Of course, any landing you can walk away from...
  12. VSD, I got a similar effect when I took off in the A10. I retracted gear and flaps, trying to stay low as a strela launcher was nearby. Before I cleared the runway, I looked to the left watching for missiles. Well, that was enough time for me to slightly dip, and sure enough, I wound up scraping and sparking down the remainder of the runway till I finally came to a stop. pretty cool effect I agree.
  13. Fates, Im on 56K so I havent tried the demo, thats a big file. Thanks for the link though, I added it to my favorites. But that's why I was asking opinions. I did hear somewhere in a review in the past, that the reviewer thought the game wasnt really a sim. However, to hear AK's response, it might be afterall. Even if it is arcadish, it still might be fun. Anything Naval I like and am interested in. I would love to try the demo, I suppose I could just leave it on all night. I wonder how long it would take?
  14. Dont you mean Silent Hunter 3? Either way, this looks very nice. I have SH2 and its a lot of fun. Enjoyed the view of many a transport taking the dive to Davy Jones locker, heading for the deep six. Arrrrrrrrrr....
  15. A nuke ASROC and you wouldnt have to worry about all that plotting. There's a BIG margin for error built in there ya know... :D Actually, this game looks pretty good, though I get the impression its more of a naval BF1942 and not really a sim. Am I wrong here?
  16. I saw this thread in the Lomac forum. I agree with some of the peoples' comments that sales and money will be what motivate UbiSoft to make an addon for Lomac. However, letting Ubi know our desire for more of this excellent sim cant hurt. I'd love to see the F-14, F-18, Tornado, Mirage, and a US carrier, not to mention some more maps or area of Operations. I signed it.
  17. I saw this in another forum and signed it then. The Russians were my cold war adversaries but I always respected them. If this company would do this for the sake of advertising and dollars to them, how long before we see pictures of our own soldiers defaced in this way for money?
  18. I agree Cretin. One of the key reasons for having the F-14 was the long range anti-ship missiles the Soviets fielded loaded on Badgers, Bears, etc. The Tomcat, coupled with the E-2C and the Pheonix, had the speed and range to quickly engage these deadly adversaries before they could shoot. This 3 sided "system" gave the CV a capable front line defence. A couple of Kitchens in the side of a CV would have seriously affected its combat capability. Most of us have seen what a single lucky shot did to the Forrestal, now imagine a large missile like the kitchen. I find it incredable that people are so short-sighted as to think that with the fall of the Soviet Union, the missile threat is seriously diminished. The Persian Gulf is awash in these missiles as are a far more likely threat, the Chinese and North Koreans. Whether these missiles are launched from land or air, they have a long reach that can only be defendedagainst by a long range aircraft and missile system like the Pheonix. Using the Hornet/AMRAAM combo with mid-air refueling is at best a stopgap that endangers our sailors and airman. The Navy performed it missions in Vietnam better than anyone else because their aircrews, unlike the Air Force, were specialized. A fighter pilot did his thing, the ground attack community did theirs, and so on. A pilot that has to know two jobs will never be quite as skilled at both as two pilots each trained in their specialty. I fear this is a lesson our military will have to learn again the hard way... PS. After all that, let me say, I sure hope they add some aircraft to this sim. I would love to see both the Tomcat and Hornet, a US CV, a British Tornado, A French Mirage, and the Euro-Fighter EF2000.
  19. This is an excerpt from the book, "Guadalcanal" by Irving Werstien. I just finished reading it. It finished with these lines... "On Oct. 27th, 1947, a Japanese soldier dressed in a ragged uniform, his hair grown to his waist, emerged from a Guadalcanal cave. This strange creature entered a Solomon Island constabulary post and surrendered. He enquired about the war, for he did not know it was over. Then, in a voice cracked from disuse, he asked, "Where are the American Marines?" When told they had departed five years before, he sighed and said, "It was no disgrace to be beaten by such men." Semper Fidelis...
  20. Staffen, I got a feeling you already know the answers pal. Take it from an old fart whose been around...I think you'll do just fine.

  22. Im 46 years old fellas. When I was 16, I used to walk out to the desert near where I lived in Tucson to shoot my wepons. I often walked back to the 7/11 with my .45 on my hip and my winchester over my sholder to get a soda and no one ever said anything including the cops. That was back in 1972-4 when guns werent such an issue. Now if I tried that here in Calif. I'd probably be arrested on the spot for some stupid trumped up malarky. Freedom aint what it used to be young people. Ive seen a LOT of change in 25 years. Speak up before you lose what you got left...
