  1. Terrain wise, everything seems fine to me, at least from what I see; I suggest that you increase the dimensions of the yellow area though, which is used by the enemy; if it's rather small, ships then spawn everywhere else. The problem is not related to the terrain, I think. Double check dates/years and userlists of the ships and aircraft. Also, please check that if you select a USN aircraft (a Tomcat for instance), you'll take-off from a friendly carrier in the game's generated single mission.
  2. That video even shows a site which illegally distributes the games' installers for free. Admins, please remove the video (from here at least). Strike Fighters 2 is still for sale on the ThirdWire store and that's where it should be acquired. We do not condone illegal practices. As a safe advise, everyone should triple check if a game's officially considered abadonware and no longer property of a developer or software house. That could be the case for a 1990s game (but titles like Falcon 4.0 are still copyrighted even today), not for a recent title that's been supported continuously by the developer until 2013.
  3. Speech Enhancement & Expansion

You need to extract it from the MissionData001.cat archive with the CAT extractor (official tool from TW or the one from Mue). Don't bother, just use the following mod and you won't need to edit that file: https://combatace.com/files/file/16986-nations-medals-expansion/

Speech Enhancement & Expansion February 13th, 2019 (1st Release) by Menrva >For Strike Fighters 2 games This package is my personal enhancement meant to improve the consistency and quality of the in-game English speech. I tweaked the SpeechSystem.ini file to include the additional SF2NA voices ("call the ball" and "Vampire") separately from those of the TACC; the additional SF2NA voices are now meant to be those of a Navy Controller. By chance, I have found and fixed a stock bug in the original SF2 SpeechSystem.ini file. With some .wav editing, I created a generic Hawkeye TACC using the original, female Red Crown voice. Additional .wav files have been created so that in-game flights and Departure mention Hawkeye instead of Red Crown. I hex-edited the .str file so that subtitles properly display Hawkeye instead of Red Crown. Other little fixes were also made; for instance, you'll no longer see "Call the ball" (capital letter after a comma), now it correctly is "call the ball". You get Hawkeye as TACC when flying for naval aviation services, otherwise you get Red Crown. This enhancement is a mixture of Polak's beautiful speech pack for SF1 games, and of SkateZilla's and Rends' improved Hawkeye voices; my thanks for their work! As a bonus, correct and complete or mostly complete speech files have been added for other languages: Italian, Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Persian. These languages have been added to the proper aviation services of countries where these languages are official: -Arabic is used for Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Somalia, Chad, Yemen, Oman, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Libya, Djibouti. -Spanish is used for Spain, Argentina, Cuba, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic. -Persian is used for Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan. -Vietnamese is used for North Vietnam only. -Italian is used for Italy only. It's highly suggested to install this mod on top of my Nations & Medals Expansion package; the included NATIONS.ini file is entirely based on the one from that mod (hence that mod is required), but with additional edits for enabling different speech packs and callsigns where proper. Mentioned countries feature correct callsigns as heard by the respective audio files (except for Persian, not possible for me to rework them without a transcription). The in-game subtitles have been fully reworked to feature such different callsigns. >Credits (in no particular order): -Polak, for his SF1 mod which enhances all of the original SFP1 speech sound files. -Rends and SkateZilla, for the improved SF2NA Hawkeye voices, which I have tweaked a bit. -GKABS, for producing the (still in progress) Arabic speech pack started for the development of ODS 30AE. -Nguyen Dang Hat and Rhugouvi, for creating the amazing Vietnamese speech pack. -FX Interactive, for producing the Italian and Spanish speech packs for their release of Strike Fighters: Project 1. -Gerwin, for his tips on properly hex-editing the header of .STR files. I included the original readme files from the mentioned mods, to the end of giving proper credit to everyone involved directly or not. >Disclaimer: This is a freeware; yet it can be redistributed ONLY in other CombatACE mods/mod packages. This mod may NOT in any way, shape or form be used in any payware additions.
  5. I discovered another stock SF2 bug in the _NATIONS.ini file; the Republic of China Air Force (Taiwan) is always using the late roundel, instead of using the old, correct one which TK created but left unused by this mistake in the .ini: [Nation024] Name=Taiwan DisplayName=Republic of China Air Force Alignment=FRIENDLY PilotNameList=NamesChineseWG.lst RankList=RanksUSAF.lst CallsignList=CallsignsUS.lst Formation.Fighter=USFighter Formation.Attack=USFighter Formation.Bomber=USBomber Formation.Transport=USBomber Formation.Tank=USTank Formation.MobileAD=USAD PilotTrainingStandard=NORMAL GenderRatio=0 DebriefSuccessMusic=DebriefSuccess.wav DebriefFailMusic=DebriefFail.wav DebriefKilledMusic=DebriefKilled.wav SpeechFile=USAFSpeech.cat SpeechTextFile=USAFSpeechText.str There's no call to the following decal; [Nation117] Name=Taiwan_OLD21 It has been addressed in my latest version of the mod, be on the lookout for the next release. The RoCAF is now selectable since 1949, as historically accurate; [Nation024] Name=Taiwan DisplayName=Republic of China Air Force Alignment=FRIENDLY PilotNameList=NamesChineseWG.lst RankList=RanksUSAF.lst CallsignList=CallsignsUS.lst Formation.Fighter=USFighter Formation.Attack=USFighter Formation.Bomber=USBomber Formation.Transport=USBomber Formation.Tank=USTank Formation.MobileAD=USAD PilotTrainingStandard=NORMAL GenderRatio=0 DebriefSuccessMusic=DebriefSuccess.wav DebriefFailMusic=DebriefFail.wav DebriefKilledMusic=DebriefKilled.wav SpeechFile=USAFSpeech.cat SpeechTextFile=USAFSpeechText.str Medals=MedalsROC.ini ActiveDate=1992 AlternateDecal=Taiwan_OLD49 StartDate=1949 [Nation117] Name=Taiwan_OLD49
  6. Those who played Ace Combat 7 know whom this aircraft belongs to... 8. LOL! I have recently installed one of Novalogic's sims for it contained some details of a plane skin I'm working on. They are far from being good nowadays under many aspects, but the detailed campaign mission briefings are a nice touch I'd like to have in SF2, alongside 3d hangars. Off-topic: Stary, time ago I had sent you a PM regarding a project I am working on, and one of your past experiments might be useful for it. I know you're busy with RL, but if you could answer me when possible, I'd really appreciate! Maybe you didn't receive the PM because your inbox is full.
  9. Hi, everyone. I had sent a PM to @Stary in regards to an experiment he had made in the past, which may be useful for the development of those two terrains I have showed. Until he responds to me, development of the terrains is halted. Stary, if you read this, please check your PM when you have time. Maybe your PM box is full and you didn't get my message.
  10. I am with you on that! I really don't get the need for in-flight refueling. Users seem to forget that TW's terrains are not full size. All terrains are about 60% of real scale size. By asking TK for a feature like this, you also ask him to remake his terrains from zero in real scale. Not really worth the effort. I'd rather have a refueling and rearming the moment I land at an airbase, arcadish ala Novalogic's light flight sims.
  11. 22 years ago, flight testing of the F-22 began at Edwards AFB
  12. It is, but keep in mind that what I show is work in progress. It was referencing another (missing) folder name, now the proper seat folder is referenced, it has been fixed.
  13. Progressing on skin work for the upcoming F-22A Raptor addon. There will be a separate, huge skinpack featuring various fictional and alternative camouflages and paint schemes. Here below a comparison between the pre-production and production paint schemes and layouts. EMD 91-4001 Prototype USAF Lo-Viz Grey Among the featured paint schemes of the skinpack, there will be a recreation of the fictional USAF desert camouflage as found in Novalogic's F-22 Lightning 3 videogame. F22L3 features a fictional F-22 squadron (namely the 14th TFS, 9th AESOG) taking part in numerous dangerous operations all over the world, including nuclear strikes on enemy WMDs. Here below a comparison between Novalogic's original skin and the recreated one. Novalogic's F-22 Lightning 3 14th Fighter Squadron, 9th Air Expeditionary Special Operations Group
  14. It's interesting indeed, I wonder about this too. As you may know, I'm working (together with other great modders) on a new F-22 Raptor add-on. The Raptor's serials are 3-digit, so you may want to add 3-digit decals for your YF-23. After all, both the YF-22 and YF-23 were born in the 90s in the contest of the ATF competition.
  15. Scusate Il Ritardo! (ovvero, Terreno WIP)

Ciao!

Patience, my friend; good things require time: https://combatace.com/forums/topic/92360-scusate-il-ritardo-ovvero-terreno-wip/
  17. Could also be, since the Mission Editor shows not allowed mission types. I had crashes with the Mission Editor when trying to edit saved campaign missions, on a stock, clean SF2 mod folder. My firm statement is that the Mission Editor is bugged on its own. Sometimes it crashes, sometimes it doesn't. It shouldn't crash on stock terrain files, but it does!
  18. Thanks, I needed to smile a bit. Although it makes you think about what we humans are doing to Earth.
  19. Thank you, Gerwin. I will let you know. I'd like to investigate other solutions heightmap wise, first. This hexedit fix is unfortunately global, and such high overcast layers would look wrong and out of place in the usual Earth terrains. Still, this bit of info you have uncovered will be surely useful to those experiencing such rendering bug. Now we know exactly how it happens.
  20. @gerwin I successfully hex edited the .dll and it works, but only for the Overcast layer. The Inclement layer uses another value, I think it's something between 1500 and 2000. The problem is that this is a global change that would affect all terrains. I wish there was a more local way to fix it...
  21. I understand, but as I said, it looks like it's the Mission Editor that is not meant to work with terrains having very few land areas. That terrain is mostly water. And I had also experienced rare crashes with stock SF2 terrains on a clean mod folder, I never understood why. You can ask Gepard for a fix, I hope he will find one. I, on my part, have thoroughly investigated the issue when working on a similar terrain and concluded that the Mission Editor does have some issues on its own.
  22. Any update, people? There's so many fragmented updates by Cliff7600 and Crusader, in this thread. I wonder if someone properly updated the package. I had also remade the skins, available in the first page.
  23. It also happened to me with some custom terrains I made, featuring few land areas. I even had crashes with stock SF2 terrains! TK never bothered to fix the Mission Editor, I'm afraid. So, Gepard can't do much about it.
  24. @gerwin Wow, that is very informative! Yes, I do some Hex editing and know about the file size thing (my proudest work of that type was to enable a disabled feature by hex editing the executable, for a very old videogame). Back to the issue, I was hoping to find an easier way than some potentially harmful hex editing (not user friendly, so to speak), but this is surely a huge step in the right direction! So, thank you very much! I am busy in the next two days, but I'll be glad to test and report back when possible! BTW, I am on the latest patch level, July 2013.
